In this series we remember songs that have been forgotten or were never even given the attention they deserved. Today's Hidden Gem is Future by Girlkind
At this point in their career Girlkind was broke and the disbandment was imminent. Even though video and song production quality could have been better, the song itself is good. I think the chorus is super energetic and fun and I like how they do the poses with the different camera angles during that part. I think the director is trying his best to make it visually interesting despite no budget.
Girlkind made one more comeback the next year with a summer concept. They also debuted a sub-unit called Girlkind XJR a few months after Future. The video was actually better quality and they worked with a pretty famous songwriter, but tbh it's not their best effort. The next year Girlkind announced their official disbandment. It's hard to find updates on the members now. Kanni is active as a solo artist and released a song last year. Tbh looking back on it, compared to most nugu companies I feel like they really tried with this group. They just never resonated with the general public because the industry is so oversaturated.
