On this series we remember songs that have been forgotten or were never even given the attention they deserved. Today's Hidden Gem is The Beat by Topp Dogg.
This was one of the first songs that made me fall in love with Kpop boy groups. Before 2015 I pretty much only listened to girl groups. I just remember thinking the beat was so awesome and this song would totally hype me up.
So Topp Dogg unfortunately lost a bunch of members since this comeback. They then made one more comeback before going on indefinite hiatus and losing even more members. They used to have 12 members and now they only have 5. Topp Dogg also changed their name to Xeno-T, but I still only call them Topp Dogg because I hate that name. The group hasn't ever made a comeback as Xeno-T. Some of the members were on the Unit, but nobody made it to the finale. The former leader married ex-Rania member, Yumin, had a child with her, and divorced her quickly. Hansol came out as Asexual and has been very open about his sexual orientation. He has been promoting under a dance label under the name Navinci.
TINT was a five member girl group that debuted under GH Entertainment in 2013 (B.I.G and 3YE's label). This debut was so fun and energetic.
Sadly Tint only made one comeback before unofficially disbanding. EXOLs were mad at them because their title song was called Wolf is Stupid. Yes EXOLs were that petty back…
Tic Toc was the group's first and last comeback. They had also lost one of their members and gained a new member. The song is really good though. I like the choreo and the video is very visually appealing.
So as I mentioned above, Neon Punch disbanded. The good news is 3/5 members re-debuted in a group called Xum last year. I'm sad because I actually liked the name Neon Punch and HATE the name XUM, but oh well. …
This was the final song Melody Day released as a group before disbanding. They were kinda well known for singing OSTs but their comebacks consistently didn't perform well on the charts. It's too bad because next to Davichi they were my favorite group when it came to ballads.
So yeah Melody Day disbanded. 3/4 members have pursued a solo career but none of them have had significant success. Yeoeun is doing decent…
This is honestly one of my favorite cute concepts of all time, if not my favorite of all time. It's unbelievably catchy, the choreo is easy and fun, and the vocals sound nice. To be honest, I think this song should have been a breakthrough/went viral. There's not a doubt in my mind that if Apink released it, it would have been a huge hit.
It is assumed that Year 7 Class 1 disbanded; they haven't been active for…
This was a debut that TOTALLY flew under everyone's radar and it's too bad because I think it's a really good song! The video is bright and popping, the girls are pretty and have lots of charisma, and the song is super catchy.
So G9 lost like 2 members almost instantly. Then one of their more popular members, Kady left about a year after their debut. They made a comeback with a name change Geegu (not really a change for…
I think this should have blown up in a big way and put Romeo on the map. It's unbelievably catchy, the vocals are good, the chore is cool, it has FREAKING CHOI MINHO FROM SHINEE, I'm actually surprised it didn't at least give them SOME more attention and raise them in popularity at least a little.
So Romeo has been inactive for quite some time, so it is assumed they disbanded. Since Romeo's hiatus/disbandment one of the…
SpinEL is a duo that debuted in 2011 with members Spin and El. SpinEL X is a special project featuring the members of Spinel and Trinity of GP Basic. Janey of GP Basic also makes a cameo in this video.
El redebuted in the group 2EYES, but shortly left after their first comeback, Shooting Star. She also competed on Mix 9 but got eliminated pretty early. Not too many updates.
Another one of my favorite Kpop songs of all time. The chorus is really magical and the way they harmonize together sounds really amazing. After Blood Type B Girl they went through a massive revamp with only one member remaining (Tina). Then after two comebacks with the new lineup the group disbanded.
Blady actually does have some updates unlike most of the groups I've promoted in this series. Tina is now a…
4ten is super nugu and even among the like 12 of us who exist not many talk about Why and it's not only my favorite 4ten song, but one of my favorite songs of all time. There's just something about the melody and the vocals that make me happy and nostalgic.
4ten was supposed to make a comeback as a trio a few years ago, but plans fell apart and the group ultimately disbanded. They had a couple lineup changes since this video…
Dorothy was a five member girl group that debuted in 2016 on the same day WJSN came back with Secret (imagine how ecstatic I was that day). Unfortunately Dorothy never made a comeback. The company made it seem like they would rebrand themselves with a completely new lineup, but that never happened. Also the original upload of the MV got deleted, so this unofficial channel was the best upload I could find
I cant believe this song came out almost 6 years ago and it still doesn't have 100k views. I think it's really pretty and the vocals are outstanding.
K-Much debuted under Chrome Entertainment in 2014 AKA the same label as Crayon Pop. Chrome didn't understand what to do with Crayon Pop's viral popularity. Rather than investing in the Crayon Pop, they debuted two new groups, K-Much and Bob Girls. Bob Girls…
Gavy NJ is a vocal trio that debuted in 2005! They're even older than SNSD and Brown Eyed Girls!
Gavy NJ is actually still active. Believe it or not, they're charting is actually pretty good in Korea. They just have a virtually nonexistent international fandom. Even though they debuted in 2005, none of the original members are still in the group. Sihyeon was the last original member to leave and Hello was ironically her…
Believe it or not, at one point from like the end of 2014 through the start of 2016 was virtually NONEXISTANT. Sol-T was one of the first and only girl groups to do the girl crush concept in 2016. Unfortunately they disbanded after this first comeback (this song). Also I think one of the members looks EXACTLY like LE from EXID
They tried rebranding by changing their name to GBB with only one member from this…
Two X was a five member girl group that debuted in 2012 under the same label as MBLAQ. This was actually one of the songs that got me into Kpop.
The girls were on a SUPER long hiatus after they made their first comeback in early 2013 with Ring Ma Bell. They left Jtune towards the end of 2015, but didn't officially disband. They were going to continue as a four member group under a new label. They managed to make…
Also here's the dance practice video because the official MV is kinda seizure-inducing
This is one of the catchiest Kpop songs EVER! Ever since it came out I will just randomly get the chorus stuck in my head.
Unicorn was a 5 membered girl group that debuted in 2015. I remember April, MyB, Unicorn, and DIA all debuted like within the same week. I had high hopes for all of them and welp,…
M.fect is a five-member boy group that debuted in 2015. Just You was the group's first comeback. I think the song is really beautiful and the vocally are quite strong. Even though it's not the fanciest video in the world, it's still pleasant. They were actually planning on a US tour in 2017 that I was gonna go to, but it got cancelled due to low sales :(
M.fect is also the first group in this…
Sunny Days was a 5 member girl group that debuted in 2012. They debuted with 7 members, but went through several lineup changes before releasing Blah Blah in 2015. It was the last song the group promoted before disbanding. This song was AMAZING and totally deserved more attention. Also some of the best vocals I've heard in a Kpop group ever.
Since the group disbanded, some of the members have still been active. …
In like 2015, N*White was my FAVORITE nugu group. I stanned them so hard and really thought they had potential, but they just didn't have a company that could support them. They were able to make one comeback (Paradise) before officially disbanding in early 2016.
They debuted as a quartet in 2014 and lost one member when they came back as a trio. None of the members have really been up to much since. Their videos were…
Scarlet was a 5 member girl group that debuted in 2014. The group was only able to make one comeback before officially disbanding. As you can tell by the video their dancing is not the strongest and it was filmed with a poptart, but the song is absolutely S tier. I usually listen to it before I have an important exam.
It's your favorite multi-stan: Hopkinz! I decided I'm gonna try doing a series where I post an underrated "hidden gem" every day! These will be mostly songs you've probably never heard of or forgot about as the years went on. Up first we have my legit, favorite Kpop song of all time: Anymore by Seo In Young!
Something about this song just hits me in the feels and I can't even explain it really. I'm not even the biggest Seo In Young…
