Never thought I'd have her on this series, but here we are. At one point Bolbbalgan4 or BOL4 were digimons, every comeback soared to #1 on the Gaon charts. They were untouchable in Korea and gave IU a run for her money. After Jiyoon left, it was never the same. She has yet to release a popular song all on her own. Sadly though, Butterfly Effect is probably her best song ever. She sings with so much emotion and it's super powerful.

So this comeback is only a couple months old, so this kinda counts as the update on her. This was a comeback after a hiatus and it performed not so good compared to how well she did before. I hope Korea gives her a second chance because she's really talented and her voice is so distinct.

I was also under an impression that they challenged IU, until I looked at Gaon Week by Week data.

BOL4's peak was 2017, when they occupied 29 spots on Weekly charts throughout the year and 8 on the Year End chart.

IU that year occupied 245 weekly spots and 7 on YEC. But it is not just spots, considering the ranking of songs (1-100), IUs weighted rank is 3.02 to BOL4's 0.42.

The challenge with IU is, even if she releases nothing in an year, her older releases will still chart to keep her in contention. Even BTS has not changed that.

So many have appeared to break her domination, but they can't unless she herself declines. It is not enough that they do well. Same with AKMU, they challenged IU in 2013, their breakout year. But after that, it is back to usual (except 2016, when IU released nothing)

It is be pity that Jiyoung is not able to do what Jeong Beom Jun could do after Busker Busker.

Anyway, that is all data - 2017 was a tough year, with IU carpet bombing with 2 major release and BTS breaking out massively, yet BOL4 made a mark in the same year. It is a pity they broke up.

But yes, Butterfly Effect is indeed a gem.

Gotta be honest , never have liked them ...

However, this song is so beautiful... Her voice is so rich.
