In this series we remember songs that have been forgotten or were never even given the attention they deserved. Today's Hidden Gem is Mask by Stellar
Stellar went through a lot. They had just made a comeback with the controversial Marionette, which saved them from disbandment. They wanted to try a tamer sexy concept, so they came back with this song. I do not know how this song wasn't a huge hit, it's one of my favorites of all time. It sounds so gorgeous. Their vocals are INCREDIBLE. Literally during the chorus, when they sing together, especially the last vocals, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. People know Marionette and Vibrato, and maybe Sting or Crying, but I feel like they should know Mask too. It's THAT good.
Stellar lasted a whole 7 years together. After this comeback, they made another comeback that didn't do so well. So they released the sexy Vibrato which saved them from disbandment again. However they members talked about how they felt uncomfortable with those concepts. The group started crowdfunding most of their comebacks atferwards via makestar where they made tons of money. For the group's final comeback, they added a 5th member after 6 years of this lineup being together. Reasoning was because two members contracts were about to end and their label tried to milk them for as much as they could. When those contracts ended they added another new member. But when Minhee and Hyoeun's contracts ended, the group officially disbanded. Jeonyul and Gayoung even showed up at their final fanmeet. Jeonyul has pursued a solo career but hasn't been super active. Hyoeun has been doing musicals, posting covers on YouTube, and I think some solo stuff. Gayoung is now an actress and an author. She also competed on a show called Miss Back. The members are all still very close, if there was anything positive about their experience in Stellar, they formed a close bond.
