On this series we remember songs that have been forgotten or were never even given the attention they deserved. Today's Hidden Gem is Midnight Sun by Hotshot
They don't make boy group songs like this anymore. Hotshot were one of those groups that definitely COULD have made it really big, but they're agency ran them into the ground. They were a lower mid tier group with tons of potential. This is my favorite song by them just because of the nostalgic sound and the Midnight Sun is super amazing sounding during the chorus. It almost sounds slightly Big bang-esque
So after 2015, Hotshot went on hiatus. Two members competed on Produce 101 season 2. One of them (Ha Sung Woon) actually made 11th place and debuted with Wanna One! The other member got to debut with JBJ. Both project groups were very successful. However, rather than capitalizing off the moment and using Ha Sung Woon's new popularity, he was never seen with Hotshot again. He pursued a solo career and has moderate success (I actually love his solos). He recently switched to a new company. Two members competed on The Unit as well, Timoteo and Hojeong. Hojeong made the final lineup and got to debut with UNB but Timoteo missed by one spot. Hotshot did make two comebacks without Ha Sung Woon. However, they had mediocre results. They ended up officially disbanding in 2020. What's so frustrating about Hotshot is that they could have easily skyrocketed in popularity. There were so many opportunities, but the company failed to seize the moment and it just slipped away. Other than Ha Sung Woon the members haven't been up to much since disbandment.
