I can't think of anything with less credibility than a Rolling Stone "The Greatest ......of all time" list. For them to attempt to rank Kpop songs is hilarious, but here we are talking about it....

I can't take any K-pop list seriously that doesn't include Tell Me in the top 3. It outimpacts almost everything on the list.

I kinda had expected some other songs in the Top 100, and also personally preferred some other songs in the Top 100 - I'd think Bad Boy or certainly Psycho was more deserving than Red Flavor for Red Velvet - but overall they did an ok job, with songs ranging from the '70s up till now in that Top 100.

It depends upon how you look at it.

if you regard it for what it is, a bunch of K-pop journalists and experts/specialists (or however you wanna call people who've been immersed into K-pop for their job) sitting together and trying to come up with a list of the 100 greatest pop songs in Korean music.

It'll never be the 'be all and end all', the Absolute Truth that everyone should adhere to, you will never have everyone agreeing 100% with every song in any Top 100 let alone this one, there will always be arguments that can be made for other songs or for other ranking positions, and there'll always be an element of subjectivity and personal preference however fair and objective people try to be.

So you should see it for what it is, just a listing that a group of journalists/specialists made, to add content for their site or magazine.

I mean lists like these when it comes to music will never make everyone happy, music is subjective after all and none will ever agree.

It also says in the article that its not strictly a ranking of the biggest hits, theres more factors to it than that.

it actually seems to be well researched and put together by people with actual knowledge of korean music, it has songs dating back almost a hundred years on it and a description for every song .

Typically these lists begins with early 2000, maybe a song or two from the 90's and the rest is filled with the biggest hits from the last decade, and end with that. And i understand why, when looking at threads like these and the majority havent even opened the article and just looked at the rankings in outrage, so why bother doing anything more?

Even if it were done by people not living in the country, i fail to se a problem with lists like these, they are everywhere. Greatest Japanese/american/french movies, Best X songs/singers, best games from x country, etc.

Just because you are not living i said country doesnt mean you cant say or criticize anything from said country. After all we are posting this on a forum that has 99% non koreans doing nothing but discussing korean music all day.

I feel like they just added as many artists as possible to the list to satisfy maximum kpop fans.

I should add that I don't have any beef with any of the songs that are or are not on the list, so it's not about that, if that part was directed at me. I don't think much of most list of rankings honestly, as the rankings are always very subjective. I think most are meant to be harmless, but depending on topic and author - can come off the wrong way.

I mean, there are certainly a fair share of articles posted daily that can certainly be patronizing/condescending and rolling stones do have a long history of i. I just dont think this particular list is that.

As for the rankings, i would not personally agree with it either but then again i never even heard of half the songs on it , and thats mainly because 1/3 of it are songs released before 2000s' of which i know basically nothing, as such i do find it more interesting than the usual rankings that are thrown about
