On this series we remember songs that have been forgotten or were never even given the attention they deserved. Today's Hidden Gem is N.E.W.S by 14U
14U was a super talented (and very large) group. This ended up being my favorite song by the team. I like how it has latin vibes without sounding like a carbon copy of Latin music. It still has Kpop vibes, just with some Latin inspiration. Plus they had the first Indonesian Kpop star ever.
Sadly this was the last song 14U promoted, just as they were starting to sort of gain a fandom. 14U could never stay away from controversy. From members saying things that got misconstrued by other fandoms to choreo plagiarism claims. Sadly their ending was very sudden and scandalous as well. Allegedly an older female staff member was having an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of the members. When the families of each member heard about this, they wanted their contracts to be terminated immediately. It's laughable how the CEO tried to say "we disbanded because they wanted to walk different paths. 13/14 members don't reach this conclusion literally all at the same time lmao. The 3 oldest members are running a youtube channel together called Over'Z. the Indonesian member, Loudi, is not promoting as a solo artist. Eunjae is now in Y&W. Hyunwoong re-debuted in 2Z but left after a George Floyd controversy.
