Ranking KBS Song Festival Fancam Views (or: Yuna's Midriff Really Was the Main Event)

Given that it's been a week since the airing of this year's KBS Song Festival (가요대축제 or Gayo Daechukje), I thought it would be instructive to rank the view counts for every single fancam (all 195 of them) from the broadcast.

To do this, I simply visited the KBS K-pop YouTube page and recorded the number of views for each video. Note that there are three types of fancams (Facecam, K-Choreo, K-Fancam), and all are included. The numbers below are accurate as of 17:01 UTC on December 24th:

As I alluded to in the title of this thread, Yuna's performance of "U-Go-Girl" is the clear winner, claiming three of the top four spots. In case you're unaware, the videos went a bit viral due to people being amazed by Yuna's admittedly impressive waist-hip ratio. I think it's intriguing how a relatively small decision, like the one to have her wear low-rise jeans, can have such an outsized effect on views. I wonder if it was a calculated choice made in order to combat allegations of Yuna having to wear hip pads.

Other than that, I was surprised by how well Le Sserafim did, as they have the highest viewed girl group fancam. Perhaps that's an indicator that their level of performance truly is a cut above that of their peers, as some people on this forum have been saying.

NewJeans, meanwhile, ranked lower than I expected, with their K-Choreo coming in behind Le Sserafim, IVE, Aespa, and even (G)I-dle's despite how "hot" they are at the moment. Maybe they're just not as exciting to watch?

i think you’re just looking too much into what isn’t there lol in kbs’s main channel nj’s performance was the most watched of the night alongside yuna’s (both amassing 1.5m views each) while this kbs fancam channel is relatively much smaller in subscriptions in comparison so its reach is not as wide and many videos get buried as a result aside from a few that went viral. If we have like a consistent trend of many events on this channel witnessing the same phenomenon in fancam views then maybe there’s sth there, but as of rn with only 1 event to examine it’s too early to draw these kinds of absolute conclusions

Some fair points. I would guess that, in general, fancams are viewed more by serious fans rather than the "general public" (exception: viral cases like Yuna's). Thus, perhaps NewJeans hasn't yet developed as many "hardcore" fans who will make the effort search for and view their fancams.

Oh yeah, that's something I was thinking about too. It's actually the reason why I waited a week to collect the view counts. I wanted to allow time for views to "settle", which would hopefully reduce the effects of differing posting times.
