to be honest I always thought all members of EXO were visuals (even if 3 officials) so I didn't really counted them but that's true

that's barely ever the case lol it's not a trend. Jisoo is a rare example and you could argue Jennie is also an unofficial visual and she's top 2.
Just look at V, Jungkook for BTS, Tzuyu, Sana for Twice, Irene for Red Velvet, Kai, Sehun for EXO, Taeyong, Jaehyun for NCT, Karina, Winter for aespa, Sullyoon, Jinni for Nmixx, Ryujin, Yuna for Itzy and so on and so forth. I can think of countless examples of visuals (official or unoffical) being among the most popular.

visuals are always hyped and most of the time tends to be one of the most popular members, esp for girlgroups, jisoo is different case i think because of blackpink concept, their concept is girl crush and badass which Jennie and Lisa fits perfectly hence more popularity, also all of them are pretty and can be considered visual so

You are right, I got confused between my title and post content, but what I meant was that it was generally not the idol that was the head of the group

Shuhua is top 3 in Gidle. Soyeon is the least popular she is known among non-fans but definitely not the most popular overall.

But Chan is one of the most popular members in Stray Kids, bphouse. I'd put him only below Hyunjin and Felix. Maybe even on par with Felix
