I hope this man isn’t, at his big age, out there shading a girl group 10 years his juniors….

imagine us all fighting about this whole topic when Chris and Will have probably already settled the matter.
I find it interesting that Will apologized, and Chris hasn’t been particularly vocal about the incident from what I’ve seen?
But the ones who keep stirring the pot are the ones who should instead be sitting that one out (Looking at y’a Zoe, Jim, OJ and Alec)
-
Not saying Will was right for slapping Chris, in fact both were lil shits in that situation. But it’s kinda weird how we normalized being downright disrespectful behind the « it’s just a joke » tag.
Ps : oh dear, even murderers and sexual harassers think Will was way over the line This scandal is like a fever dream.

Well, this thread didn’t age in a cute way at all

I think this might be my favorite StayC title idk it’s so weird, so poppy, so classy yet so bubbly. The chorus reminds me of many things (one of which being city pop, strangely lol.) Stereotype was coherent and good, but a bit boring in comparison.
The MV was amazing too, they all looked absolutely beautiful (especially Sieun, this was her era)
Sucks for them it got leaked this early tho The pression might already be off the roof for them.

Not @ Hyunsuk’s looking like Homesick’s Gladiolus

I had some reserve when the directors and JTBC kept saying « please watch the drama first to find out about the truth ». Like, I get why people were offended by that kind of statement tbh. But then we actually all watched it and it turned out neither JTBC nor the producers were lying lol. Pretty much all the accusations were baseless and blown out of proportion, especially the one about the ANSP being beautified.
The complaint I didn’t get was the fact showing the ANSP agents/officials —actual human beings in theory— acting like people who could be morally grey depending on the situation was… problematic?
Them having a hobby, friends or enjoying food isn’t beautifying. They didn’t suddenly become good people because they act like humans do
Evil, disgusting, people irl aren’t like anime villains. It’s because they can show themselves relatable to some extent and act « normal » that they are horrible.
Eun Changsu loved his children above everything else, went through a lot of pain and heartbreak because of what was happening to them. But he didn’t care about other people’s kids. He only wanted his safe and would have slaughtered every single student if it wasn’t for Youngro. Not to mention his children fighting for their life is his fault as well.
Chief Ahn was some kind of « comedic relief » character people wanted to feel sympathetic towards for all the bullying he went through, until it was revealed he’s behind the framing and extreme torture of several innocents. And that he enjoys it.
Nam Taeil was the epitome of your conniving hot headed and lowkey dumb villain.
For 90% of the show the ASNP agents and officials were shown torturing, threatening and plotting against innocents all so the dictatorship could win the elections. And everytime they were brought up it was along a traumatizing backstory/event.

Anyone else having a stroke trying to read this?
I had to read that part 5 times to make sure I wasn’t just dumb

Article: "That dog of a regime"... 'Seolganghwa' did not undermine the democratization movement
Source: Media Today
Media are suffering backlash for their malicious press over 'Snowdrop.'
Last year, a petition was posted on the Blue House website that has surpassed over 350,000 signatures under basis that the drama "distorted history" and "undermined the democratization movement." The problem became serious as many media outlets clamored over the fact that the petition had received over "200,000 signatures" putting focus on the upcoming broadcast.
Media also compared the drama to tvN's 'Crash Landing on You' that enjoyed box office success despite the fact that it explored the "two Koreas" theme however with a romantic comedy twist. 'Seolganghwa' on the other hand was viewed as an "obscure" genre that was not a romance, comedy or period drama but with added "heaviness" in the plot.
As a result, politicians, sponsors and the public began cutting off the drama and many media outlets participated in the "cancel movement" with undue criticism.
However, as the drama aired, despite the initial backlash, the drama began to enjoy rising ratings and positive reviews. This is because it became clear the drama did not undermine the democratization movement instead it appeared the drama aimed to convey the "tragedy of the times."
The government cannot start banning the airing of dramas on the ground of distorting history. Such regulations are difficult to find in the Broadcasting Act. Only post-deliberation is allowed through the Korea Communications Standards Commission. However, as these cases keep happening, drama producers are forced to fall into a swamp of unreasonable self-censorship and the damage is passed to the viewers. To avoid this cycle, media must be cautious about claims to ban a drama's airing.

- [+551, -49] All the people that sh** on this drama claiming it was propaganda that undermined the democratization movement need to seriously reflect! It's nice to finally see an article making fair statements. I recommend everyone watches the drama themselves, you won't regret it.
- [+335, -23] 'Seolganghwa' is about the suffering of citizens because of military dictatorship, Ministry of Security and North Korea. Claims that it was anything otherwise is just wrong.
- [+270, -11] Ah, finally a normal article like this is coming out...this incident made me realize how terrifying the media and online communities are. Media kept writing about insignificant keyboard warriors cursing the drama...who's the real perpetrator and who's really distorting history here?
- [+247, -8] Those ignorant netizens that instigated this witch hunt against the production team after leaking the plot of the drama need to really self-reflect. This goes to show there are idiots everywhere distorting history, this is the level of their brains..
- [+122, -2] The media really needs to reflect. 'Seolganghwa' is a genre we haven't seen yet in dramas of the past because most dramas stay faithful to the same genre. You can tell the director put in great efforts to blend the genre with his directing skills. Jung Hae-in's transformation as the charismatic Su-ho is amazing to watch. Above all that, 'Seolganghwa' is drama with an important message.
- [+101, -1] Watching the drama made me realize the seriousness of this scandal. If they had cancelled the drama over this, it would've been hard for the producers and actors to come back after this. It's crazy that the public were misled with fake claims and misunderstood the drama. You can tell how much efforts the actors the producers put into the drama if you watch it. I hope more accurate articles like this get posted in the future.
- [+95, -1] It's horrifying how the fabricated articles spread everywhere and the public just accepted and agreed with those reporters without one ounce of doubt.
- [+78, -1] So many people claimed they bought off Disney Plus with this unreasonable scandal but once I watched it myself, I realized the different characters and positions created a constant tension that kept me glued to the drama. I have a feeling it's going to get even better as it continues to air..
- [+65, -3] I personally think it's a very well-made drama.
- [+60, -1] And to think that they filed petitions to cancel this drama before it even aired...this is the state of our country. Shouldn't the media have at least confirmed before criticizing the drama? And all those people that participated in the witch hunt...you should all be ashamed!
- [+33, -0] It's a bit disappointing that such a well-made drama got boycotted. I heard the writer prepared for this for over 10 years? You can actually tell with the actual script and directing that they paid a lot of attention to the details. The public really needs to re-evaluate this drama.
- [+29, -1] The first normal article in a long time ㅋㅋ. Hul ~ so many actors, from Jisoo and Hae-in and the director who got cursed and images ruined over a drama that hadn't even aired. It's not like they can re-air the drama from the first episode...aigoo...so unfair...

What??
External Content twitter.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms. We have provided more information on this in our privacy policy. What plot twist are we going to get and why is Bon-Ok wearing the dress she wore on the blind date ?
There is a Theory that she was working for or with Dr.Kang (sister?) and only persisted to join the blind date to check on Sooho . It seems like the North doesn’t trust him for some reason I hope will be revealed soon… we remember when that old lady in NK told Comrade Jo to kill Sooho if he shows a change in ideology. Why would she think there is a possibility for him to that and only him… and why would they send one of their best agents to just get Sooho back?
I highly doubt Dr.Kang and Bun Ok are related. That wouldn’t really go hand in hand with what was hinted about Bun Ok until now —would NK let one of their agents, with dying parents, struggle in debts ? Dr.Kang’s identity has been hidden for years as well. Only Suho knew who she was.
Ms Pi’s words about the way Bun Ok’s family got ruined still intrigue me! She said it’s because of her ‘communist’ sister, but BO was very adamant about it being false. It was also said the reason no one would hire BO’s family anymore, and why she couldn’t pursue her education, was because of her sister’s incident. And that if the ANSP dug into BO’s family matters, she’ll get framed as a spy/accomplice as well.
Is it possible her sister used to be a student activist who somewhat got arrested?
Bun Ok is a character who’s loyalties keep changing, as long as it benefits her. From her pov, she doesn’t have much to lose if she joins hands with the NK team (for now) :
- Her relationship with all the other hostages went down the drain.
- She now has a major crush on Comrade Joo
- She saw the huge amount of money the NK spies had + the ammunition. Bun Ok might have hopes she could benefit from the $$$ if she helps them
- the ANSP’s doing a horrid job at ‘rescuing’ the hostages (and at this point, I’m sure half of them are starting to question this situation —especially insightful and observant characters like Bun Ok.)
(But she could very much have thought of a whole scheme to free herself by being buddy buddy with spies… we never know with snowdrop characters lol. Sometimes they’re smart af, sometimes they move like stupid horror films protagonists.)
About the NK lady instructing Joo to kill Suho if his ideologies change… I feel like :
- it might have to do with his father. Since the start of the series there have been a couple of instances of him hinting at frictions with other families/higher ups from the party. They obviously want Suho’s dad gone from the powerful position he’s holding atm. His father says Suho is his ‘last weapon’ he can kill everyone who’s opposing him/trying to bring him down with. Suho’s success is his dad’s success…
- …. But, it seems like a known fact among the spies that Suho is somewhat ‘softer’. If the spies know, the higher ups prob know too. The same way Kang Moo got a reputation of trying to be a ‘good guy’ who does everything ‘by the book’ in the ANSP. That moral distanciation they both take from their organizations makes them look like ticking bombs in the eyes of their superiors.
And that’s because of that distanciation that they are slightly less ‘brainwashed’ and wouldn’t put it past the ANSP/NK using them like paws in their schemes/kill them. They’ve been full of doubts since the beginning, but kept lying to themselves about doing the right thing by being loyal to their superiors.
