As soon as I rewatched the MV I noticed the MV was only 2:55, and TWICE songs have usually been above 3 minutes.
Talk That Talk is shorter than other titles, but it didn't fall flat or sound empty, you know why?
I feel like the thing that is guilty for this is definitely the chorus. The chorus is shorter than usual.
For TWICE we usually have 3 kinds of choruses in title tracks (pay attention to this)
1. Full long singing chorus with 2 similar long verses of vocals (Ooh Ahh, Cheer Up, Knock Knock, Heart Shaker, What Is Love, Feel Special, Cry For Me)
2. Long singing chorus with 2 parts, the singing chorus and the catchy post hook (TT, Signal, Likey, Yes Or Yes, Fancy, I Can't Stop Me, Alcohol-Free, The Feels, Scientist (excluding first chorus))
3. Beat drop chorus and may come with a singing part after that (Dance The Night Away (consists of singing part after beat drop), More & More (only beat drop))
Talk That Talk's chorus length is like half of the "Feel Special" type of chorus, or you can say its a "Scientist" 1st chorus without "you got a crush on me". The length is also the same with a beat drop only chorus. And the first sentence (Jihyo/Nayeon/Jeongyeon) and second sentence (Sana/Dahyun/Tzuyu) isn't the same, so it does not feel like a long chorus like "Feel Special".
The first two choruses are shorter than usual TWICE titles, but the last chorus repeated the chorus twice, so the last chorus became the length of a "Feel Special" kind of chorus.
So if Talk That Talk had a post hook it would sound similar to the "I Can't Stop Me" chorus with the woo woo post hook, or maybe "Fancy" with a "Fancy Youuuu" post hook. And that would make the chorus longer and the song longer, but they decided to keep it short for the first two choruses.
But then Talk That Talk made a big impact by repeating the chorus TWICE in the ending part creating an explosion of vocals and instrumentals, making the last chorus epic and bomb, also the note change, and the song ended satisfying people without feeling empty. More & More last chorus ended abruptly leaving us wanting for more, which is why although the song was longer than Talk That Talk, had a dance break, but it felt short.
All the reasons above are why although the choruses are shorter, the song is shorter than usual not reaching 3 minutes, but we get satisfied after listening to this because it leaves an impression of feeling full after that last chorus. Talk That Talk is really amazing for me! STREAMMMMM!
