I'm keeping an open mind about it. The Boyz had a few songs that felt like something. If they keep the momentum of "working up", you never know..an unexpected group's producer could surprise us with a "step up".

It’s too early to tell and the cycle always depends on when you come in it.

There are a lot of newer Kpop fans who don’t know (or care) who SES or HOT are, and similarly don’t care about SNSD or Big Bang. This is just like people being shocked that a 16 year old doesn’t know the Beatles or Led Zeppelin or Donny Hathaway.

I remember being astonished when Prince died by the amount of people my age or younger who didn’t know who he was. Despite all of us thinking our generation (or the generation before us or the artists we think matter), time - particularly in pop music - marches on.

The probem is there is nothing left for them to impact.

When Seo Taiji introduced this new modern sounding music to Korean people, "1st generation" had the job of keeping it up. They did their job by making the sound popular while also introducing some new sounds.

Even though the popularity waned a little for some time in Korea, artists like BoA and TVXQ! expanded the industry by opening up new market in Japan. Then came Big Bang, Wonder Girls, SNSD who got people interested in kpop again. SJ went viral in SEA opening new markets for kpop.

"3rd generation" went further and truly went global. Nowadays kpop has interest not only in the US but also in Europe.

With BTS & Blackpink still thriving, there isn't anything that much for "4th generation" to impact. Unless they introduce some new sound to kpop audience it probably will remain the same.

Actually few Koreans now are talking about the 2nd Generation other than the singer who long overstayed her welcome.

I'm sure 4th gen groups will blow up big as well, people are rushing thinking that it won't happen

You only feel like this because they’re new. 10 years from now these groups will have a treasured history and a legacy for their fans so they will definitely be remembered. I don’t see 3rd gen as impactful as 2nd gen because I lived through 2nd gen. However I am sure 3rd gen fans will disagree.

It's way too early to judge about that. Certains groups are not still not on that level or they haven't debuted yet.

Just another note: I’m reminded of when Shinee members sat with little kids and the one girl was excited because she knew Key from Amazing Saturday. She had no idea he was in a music group. So for many of the artists you listed, it will be more for knowing them on their other work than the music - like all the kids growing up only knowing Heechul from variety shows..

Though aside from aespa, I think ITZY will be remembered as well.

But who knows maybe the next 3 years will be very different, maybe some kind of explosion of impact from various 4th gen groups might occur but as of now the probability of that happening is low.
