What are some embarrassing K-Pop "facts" you were totally wrong about for way too long?

I thought Hoshi from SVT was Japanese.

Until this year I thought that SNSD and Girls’ Generation were 2 different groups although I heard their songs a lot 😅

Also for a long time I thought that Mamamoo renamed themselves as Big Mama after they became older and became moms🤣

1. Prior to researching, I did not know the girl group tripleS had 24 members!!!!!!!

That's an ENTIRE CLASS!!!

2. I kept forgetting and thinking Ningning from aespa was Japanese-- even after knowing she was not.

3. When I began learning about the group, I thought Taeyeon from Girls' Generation was one of the young members because of her height and face.

4. Related to number 3 -- I thought the same with Chaeyeon from Le Sserafim.

5. Related to 3 and 4 -- I thought the same with Nayeon from Twice.

6. Related to 3 to 5 -- I thought the same with Ruka from Babymonster.

i thought izone was literally pronounced i zone, rather than like eyes one, but even though i know that i still pronounce it wrong lol

same with seulgi, i thought it was pronounced see lu gi, rather than how it is, i still pronounce it wrong on purpose too

oh i just thought of another!! it was horrible

i thought "bts" was only used to refer to the group bts, and once i was watching a youtube video that has bts in the title, and i left a comment like "don't say bts in the title if you're not gonna put them in the video" and they responded with "it means behind the scenes" i was ready to die

That's only the Korean pronunciation. The native pronunciation is roughly the same as it's spelt.

Before I found AKP, back when the only kpop groups I really liked was Blackpink and Dreamcatcher (and G-idle)

I didn't know much about other groups and assumed most other girl groups were "cutesy"/"princess" concepts, more like jpp idol groups or something (you know, frilly dresses, bows, ribbons etc etc).

There was a discussion on a different forum about "why do you like the groups you like"

I answered "I like blackpink and Dreamcatcher because I cant get into sickly sweet cutesy kids shit like ITZY or whatever"...

I'm ESL and always read SHINee as "shi-neh" because "nee" means "no" in my language and is pronounced "neh".

I finally heard it pronounced as "shiny" and I honestly thought it sounded kind of stupid until I got used to it

I uh... I also believed for a hot second that BTS were a bunch of virgins, because "they totally aren't allowed to date, you guys". In my defense, I was suspicious of that one from the start.

I also was confused about that in the early days, and it's bit suprising to be that so many use SNSD today instead of Girls' Generation name.

At one point I think "STAY" were "STAYC" fandom name, but it was "Stray kids" fandom name
