One more fact: on Haechan's audition, a teenage trainee asked if he was nervous and offered him water and encouragement, which he remembered even years later. The trainee was Taeyong.

This list excludes instrumentals and interludes, as well as OSTs, remixes and Stations, versions in other languages, region-specific versions (i.e. Japanese releases) and the new Glitch Mode songs

If just using this criteria:

NCT Dream - all songs are over 5M streams except for the newly released songs on Glimo and all the Chinese versions of their tt

Rationale

Instrumentals and interludes are obvious to remove. OSTs, remixes and Stations all have lower promo and reach and I don't think it's fair to compare these when you still hear people not knowing they're released. This can be true for some singles too, but I feel like there's a clearer promo on those.

Why did I remove the other versions in other languages? It skews the table, as you can see below, which has them included in red. 7 of the top 10 songs are language versions.

This doesn't tell you that a song is less popular - only that a specific language version of the song is less popular. The Chinese version of We Go Up has the third lowest amount of streams, but the main version (in Korean) has nearly 59 million streams and is the 14th most streamed NCT song.

Okay, so after stripping out versions, I found a new problem, where the Japanese only releases dominated the chart (in blue). Much like OSTs and Stations, these have lower reach and promotion. We all know Avex sucks. Okay, so I stripped those out too because 5 out of 10 were these songs.

Ok, new problem. I stripped out the just released Glitch Mode songs, because that's not really a fair comparison. Those are purple.

Prior to today, the last male SM Rookies announced were Hendery, Xiaojun and YangYang back in July of 2018. Earlier in that year Lucas and Jungwoo were announced as rookies as part of the NCT 2018 Empathy promotions. Remember: everyone in NCT was announced as part of SM Rookies except Renjun, Chenle, Shotaro and Sungchan, and every male SM Rookie went into NCT except Hansol, who left the company.

Until the announcement of Shohei yesterday, Taeil was the oldest SM Rookie introduced. He was 21 when he was announced. The oldest overall rookie was Irene at 22. Shohei, announced yesterday, is now the oldest SM Rookie - he is 26!

The Luminate mid-year data report is out: Sticker is the 9th highest selling physical in the U.S. with 66K. There are 5 other kpop acts in the list - it's worth noting Sticker came out in 2021. The other albums came out in 2022, except for the Enhypen album, which came out in December 2021.

DYK Prada was the top brand at Milan Fashion Week, generating $26M in MIV (i.e. the value of the "free advertising" for the brand, essentially the media stories and pictures talking about the brand) thanks to the presence of Win Metawin and Jaehyun. This reference is from Women's Wear Daily, the big fashion industry magazine, so this isn't looking through a kpop lens here. Launchmetrics is the platform that measures MIV, or EMV (earned media value).

July 18:

DYK Mark's Child exited the Spotify K-pop global charts over the weekend for the first time since its entry on Feb. 10. The song spent 22 consecutive weeks on the chart and peaked at #20. - It will be interesting if we see moves in the chart with the US and Indonesian shows to come, which might move push up some of the English songs. With the 2 Baddies comeback, Lemonade massively increased its regular rate of streaming!

- Try Again passes Regular to reach 8th place. This is the highest NCT member song. The only other member song in the top 50 is Taeyong's Long Flight at #45.

- If you're curious on member songs, all of Ten's songs are in the top 100, as is Mark's Child and Taeyong's Love Theory. That's it!
