Is it weird Hybe refuses to debut strong vocalists like Nmixx/Aespa?

  • JYP learns from Twice and Momo’s mistake and gives us Nmixx with all great vocals, so why don’t Hybe do the same? We know bad vocals = less success so why isn’t Hybe debuting strong vocalists like Nmixx? They even eliminate all strong vocalists in I’LL-IT and many say the group will flop with no strong vocalists.

  • This is one of your most obvious baits yet, it’s almost insulting to one’s intelligence 💀

Watch people still fall for it tho and trash the top ggs for having success despite being “untalented” like clockwork :clown:

lol for real. OP is a master at trolling not only fans of his target group (Illin' in this case), but then trying to drag in NMIXX and TWICE fans as well with his Twice shade and NMIXX "praise."

  • from a company's perspective the only thing that matters is $$$

and we all know that the product in kpop isn't the music but rather the idols themselves

  • There’s special charm watching idol’s skill on stage getting better over time including vocals, at least this is what i feel with certain idols (not going to name anybody because it’ll sound like a backhand compliment)

  • Majority of groups with “great vocals techniques” are not that popular. You need more than just great vocals to be an entertainer. You also must have an it factor, great dancer, charismatic, amazing stage presence.. I also see that vocal colours are more important than great vocal techniques, as well as the ability to convey emotion while singing. Most normal people don’t go “ah that’s amazing vocal technique”, they go “ah I can feel the emotions!” When they hear music. So being great as singing is just one of the basic requirement, it’s not enough to stand alone.

NewJeans and Le Sserafim success >>> than Aespa and Nmixx.

So it seems that good vocalist is overrated.

  • Unpopular opinion: The way I interpret it, I'll-It is built around Wonhee. She's young and only spent like 2 months as a trainee, but this also means she has a lot of time and room to grow - eventually into a generational it-girl, at least domestically.

While visuals in their own right, none of the others will overshadow her visually for her particular archetype, while all the vocalists who could change the nature and muddy the unique selling point of the group were not chosen - sort of like how strong vocals define NMIXX and the it-girl visual factor of Sullyoon is de-emphasized as a byproduct.

"I'll-It" places firmly on Wonhee's shoulders Hybe's expectation that she will eventually become the it-girl and carry her group. Some criticize her for being the only one that didn't cry when she made the group. I'd cut her some slack because I don't think even she groks the gravity of the situation and the burden she's about to be saddled with.

This could be true but also Sullyoon is considered very talented, even as much as Haewon/Lily. Sullyoon just never became an it girl because JYP always waste solo potential, like how Yuna in Itzy could become an it girl but JYP didn’t make it happen.

  • JYP didn't care about vocals when creating Twice so that argument is false and YG surely didn't care when making BP. Neither group has a power belter/strong vocalist.

Yeah but that’s the point. JYP saw how Twice’s bad vocals negatively impacts their success, so they improve with Nmixx. Same with YG seeing how bad vocals make Blackpink less successful, they improve with Babymonster. Hybe artists always get criticized for vocals, from Jimin to Le sserafim Sakura to Enhypen to Txt, people want Hybe to debut strong vocalists, but they refuse to do so. Other companies learn from their mistake with bad vocalists, Hybe doesn’t.

jimin literally had one bad encore and now people act like he murdered cats and dogs with his voice nevermind he has shown great raw vocals (not postproduced like the "live" shows people use to assess idol's vocal skill) in many bangtan bombs over the years, in various legendary shows like NPR tiny desk, US night shows, SNL, and unplugged. his encore being viral is only because he has too many passionate haters who is also eager to also slutshame him for no reason.

you pay too many attention to people who criticize hybe idols just because they are from hybe but willing to break their back over with excuses to similar issues if they happened to their faves

What are you even talking about? Most groups with great vocalists were indeed very popular during their time. Super Junior? EXO ? SNSD? Red Velvet? Mamamoo? Brown Eyed Girls? Aespa? Just to name a few. All these groups have had some of the best vocalists during their respective generations and all of them were top groups and have had success, popularity and relevance. Vocals aren't the ONLY important factor in a kpop group but the dismissiveness is quite funny ngl.

Ps: vocal skills and "conveying emotions" aren't mutually exclusive. I dare say there are no emotions at all to be had when an idol is literally struggling to string two lines together while standing still but maybe that's just me 🤷‍♀️

  • You can debut with strong vocals or you can work to improve your skills and become a good vocalist

  • I can't say anything about HYBE's vocals, I don't know their vocals enough for that.

But in general, vocals are just 1 aspect, 1 trait that can contribute to the strength of an idol.

I mean, it's not as if you need opera house level singers to sing a pop song, not in K-pop, not in any genre of mainstream music.

Aside from vocals, there are other contributing talents that can be important assets for an idol, like dance talent, performance prowess, charm, songwriting/composing, etc.

On top of that, an idol group's qualities are only partially responsible for a group's success: a large part of a group's success and popularity is which songs they release and how a group is promoted by their company => and how a company wants to promote a group determines what exactly they're looking for in the members of a group they want to debut.

  • Their voices are 'too normal'. Strong voices must refer to those unique voices like Blackpink girls. You can recognize their voices immediately when you hear it. You can tell that, this is Jisoo's, this is Jennie's, this is Rose's and this is Lisa's!

The other girls sound pretty much like many others out there.

Black pink has some of the worst vocals out there. They look pretty on stage but everything is lost once they start singing.

Some criticize her for being the only one that didn't cry when she made the group. I'd cut her some slack because I don't think even she groks the gravity of the situation and the burden she's about to be saddled with.

I agree 100%. I only watched the clips of the show on YouTube, but when I saw Wonhee I knew she was going to be in the group. I wasn’t even impressed with her talent, but I figured HYBE felt they found the next Kim Garam with her. She wasn’t even chosen by the judges and they already have her as the center. I also knew the one girl that looks so much older than the rest of them would make it even though she really looks out of place to me, but she is definitely who I consider the most talented. I think her name is Yuna.

BTW, strange name for a group. I wonder if HYBE know that there is already a record label out there called Ill It? They don’t do their research very well in that company.

  • What are you considering strong vocalists? All of the girls in New Jeans have absolutely beautiful vocals and LeSserafim are no joke either, especially Chaewon and Yunjin.

Like Ningning/Lily are miles ahead of the girls on Le sserafim/Newjeans. Hybe is the richest company, have the best resources, so why can't they debut people that outsing idols of SM? I have never seen Le sserafim/Newjeans being able to belt high notes easily likes the girls of Nmixx.

  • Hold up, you call that belting? Whitney, Mariah, Aretha, Barbara, Adele, and Beyoncé are or were belters with beautiful intonation to boot. These girls are mediocre belters regardless of how hard they try. I look for the overall tone of a singers voice and their own unique style, not the fact that they can sing loud. Trying to imitate other great singers just doesn’t cut it for me. They need their own style for my approval.

    And where is NMIxx now?

Vocals are important in Korea. Not so as far as the world is concerned.

I'm just promoting baemon's vocals I didn't say anything about new jeans it wasn't about them not sure why you are being rude

at least baemon can belt and nope they are actually pretty decent vocalists if vocal coach lreactors think so there has to be a reason and you literally think new jeans have amazing vocals so should I I take you seriously?

  • im in shock by how people could believe Jin is singing live in all these videos.

    You're questioning this guy?

Funny you say that when fans out there are criticizing Nmixx for bad songs and Aespa for bad stage presence. I guess there is more to it than just vocals...lol....don't despair though...JTBC is looking for a Mamamoo type of group. They will audition girls who could all be main vocalists.

  • <3 Perhaps it's because they prioritize all rounders rather those who only specialise in only one skill? After all, each of the Big 4 have their own criteria for what they look for skill wise.

    JYP: Dance/Attitude

    YG: Rap/Swag

    SM: Vocals

    HYBE: All rounders

  • "Strong vocalist" is subjective.

Yes Lily has range and power, but I find her tone so extremely grating, and if I were to put it in a nice way, I don't even rate her as a good singer.

Ning Ning has range and tone, but not the power. Maybe she is smart and protecting her vocal cords. So strong vocalist no, very good vocalist yes.

imo I don't consider any of the member of the current top girl groups to be strong vocalists. If you really want to compare apples with apples, the number of female idols that have won King of Masked Singer you can count on one hand. There is a reason for this, and this is because you do not need a strong vocalist in a group for it to be successful.
