Why are people acting like there are 10 boygroups in kpop right now? Even if 100/100 groups were selling 1M copies the achievement is still amazing.
Imagine saying 1M in not impressive anymore when only 8 groups are actually doing but in the same breath saying if a boygroup don’t sell 1M they are flopping

Depending of the group selling even 50k is amazing. Some people sure are weird...
1M is an amazing and difficult number to achieve.
yup, I have seen the comment before a lot. They say selling 1 million these days is equilavent to selling 100k in 2nd gen. Basically it isn't an outstanding achievement and many other groups have done it.
Kind of stupid lol. Some major western artists are struggling to hit 800k.

What??? These people are just crazy. Selling 1M is still suuuuuper difficult and a "flop" group won't be able to sell this many!!
I mean we know kpop physical sales market is growing but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This type of comments come from the stans that wish their faves to sell that amount let’s be honest.
BTS will always be impressive no matter what and that's all that matters to me and the history books. But since we haven't had a Korean album since Nov 2020 to compare to, I do say that BTS/BigHit doing less gimmicks (no fan signs, only two versions etc) but having more expensive albums compared to pre-MOTS:7, should tell us that BTS will sell like hotcakes with actual on-ground demand to match it up no matter what. At the rate ARMY are still growing, I don't think even BTS and BigHit are prepared for their next project. They might even need to extend preorders to 2 months instead of the usual one for mass production.
Asides from BTS, Enhypen sales are also impressive. Barely a year old and already close to 3M total sales. And it also helps that they do fewer gimmicks/versions as well. I'm excited to see their growth this year just on the numbers alone. Truly impressive stuff for a numbers/stats nerd on occasions.

Being popular in Asia is not impressive anymore. Western fans never gave Kpop groups that were popular in Korea or Asia the credit.
Some of my faves can't even sell 150k....

In a way the 2nd gen comparison is true. 100k used to be a milestone for boy groups the way 1 million is now.
Selling 1 million is obviously better for their money income and stuff though
It's always been so weird to me when people say selling 1M isn't impressive anymore. Like there are less than ten groups who have managed to do that so it's not really that easy. Especially groups like Enhypen who are barely one year old yet have hit 1M sales with their second comeback, that's insane
It's just another way to drag boy groups. 
It’s definitely impressive. There are more groups or soloist overall that charted in K platform than who can sell 1million in an album.Some can’t even do it with all their albums combined in a year. So it’s definitely impressive. It means massive fandom. And mass buying allegation is a crap since not all fans can buy so if a big number of them can, it’s still a good representative of one’s group selling ability.

For Western fans only US charts and to one extent UK charts matter, they don’t care about Japan even tho is the second biggest market so gives a f about their opinion.
Most of time people who are crying about this are fans of groups that haven’t hit the 1M benchmark. It’s jealousy I tell ya’.
I literally don’t understand their logic about how 1M is not an amazing feat or a huge accomplishment. Like get a grip of reality, only 8 groups out of the thousands that debut each year have reached this milestone.
Plus, the fact that it is mainly physicals that bring in the most revenue, and in millions in terms of quantity as well. That’s what’s paying the bills and numerous would wish to be in place of these groups if they had the chance to.

Basically any company that imports albums can make up sales using distribution. Hanteo is a little more precise in giving the information, I think only SKZ, EN, BTS, EXO, SVT and NCT have achieved it and it is incredible, but for me the most shocking thing is when there is a group that comes from a small company (it does not enter The Boyz nor Ateez, nor Oneus).
We are talking about a group that does not have the connections and I achieved something amazing.

SEVENTEEN and BTS were not part of a big label by the time they debuted.
I still think 250k is impressive. Sure there are several groups hitting that, but it's still not easy and most of them have to build up to that benchmark over time by consistently releasing high quality work to build up a fandom willing to buy that much. That's impressive to me.

Build up a fandom is the main point, I have no idea how and why people expect a group that debuted yesterday to sell over 500k copies just because 2/3 groups that debuted in the past year have done it.
