2021 is truly the year of the surprise in KPOP

  • 1. a total nugu GG, Brave girl become one of the top GG in one week after a video become viral

    2. a rookie GG, Aespa, is the Group in 2021 who release the more soty material songs among Idol groups

    3. Somi out of nowhere is performing better than other well establish soloist like Chungha, Sunmi etc...

    4. the collab that a lot of people dreamof for years, Akmu x IU, 2 good artist in chart usually isn't performing as well than everybody would have suppose

    5. StayC out of nowhere making a mark for themselves by releasing one of the best perfoming song in the chart

    6. BTS latest song isn't doing as well than their previous release, being block by other "smaller artist" compare to them like Mujin, Taeyeon , aespa etc....

    7. the storm of Bullying accusation, and soojin Leaving Gidle

    8. Gfriend disbanding when no one thought they would

this year is really full of surprise among Kpop , it feels like it's another reality x)

  • Is most of that really surprising?

    1. This one is definitely surprising

    2. SM's new girl group that they are investing a lot in doing really well? Not that surprising.

    3. All Somi needed was to get over her nerves, and a Teddy hit song. Both were bound to happen eventually.

    4. Akmu and IU are doing well enough. Near the top of the charts.

    5. StayC is produced by Black Eyed Pilseung

    6. Not every song will be a hit, even for BTS

    7. Drama in Kpop... Soojin leaving is surprising though

    8. Also actually surprising

  • This list is kind of nice to see because I feel like it’s a repeat that happens every couple of years in kpop. A random nugu group suddenly kills it… sistar, girls day, a pink, etc. a Big 3 idol group debuts and literally slays IMMEDIATELY (by the second song)…. Twice, @@@870a1afe-bc7d-4275-b1a4-212c0c89807f@@@, Black Pink, Exo, Aespa, Miss A. Groups disbanding/members suddenly departing…. Like half of Exo at once, JESSICA FROM SNSD, Sulli from F(x), I mean…. The next generation is here….. this RV release will prob be their last huge hit, black pink will stay relevant due to their westernization…. But other than that the cycle has to repeat

  • BTS has 2 songs stable in the top 10 currently, they're doing just fine. Butter is going to be their second longest charting song in the top 10 of melon weekly only behind the powerhouse that is Dynamite. Butter is also likely going to enter the top 10 gaon year end chart with the upcoming gaon update. PTD is also only up against Nakka by AKMU and IU for July SOTY.

This is all while Dynamite is starting to chart above some of the biggest 2021 releases (its #15 on melon daily after a whole year).

On top of that it is massive hit internationally climbing to the #3 for the most streamed song by k-acts on spotify in only 3 months (again only behind BWL and Dynamite). And also all 3 (PTD, Butter and Dynamite) are big hits in Japan, occuping the entire top 3 of spotify japan for a long while.

  • This is the year of ggs and soloist in South Korea again. It’s impossible to expect an artist to have a hit with every release and Butter is doing really good locally and internationally, if we use Dynamite as a standard of success then any song release this year in SK is performing well lmao.

I say latest song ,butter isn't bts latest song it's ptd

  • I dont think Nakka performance is really that bad as some try to make it out as. More or less, AKMU last release wasnt a hit so most dont expect Nakka to smash outright. And the song is still holding super well on charts, so not really THAT surprisjng

Some people are gonna come for you for a certain post unless they missed it. I think they are doing really well.

Anyways the most surprising one is Brave Girls for sure.

Another one is all the 2nd Gen reunions. After School, Nine Muses, Sistar, 2pm. T-ara is also rumored to have a comeback

wantwd to say this too. 2nd gen coming back

i don't care i'm not lying it's the truth , facts prove it

never said Nakka was doing bad, i said it didn't perform like everybody thought it would do considering that even if latest akmu songs didn't do well, they are still pretty well know among the public

and IU in collaboration with them

everybody thought it would crush all the competitions but it didn't perform as everybody thought

Dynamite performance on Melon was too good and abnormal so people may confuse about how BTS tracks performs in Melon. Apart from Dynamite, BTS songs performed ok in Melon top 10, their second highest week is only 12. If Butter can hit 15 weeks in top 10, this is already successful for BTS.

Dynamite is the most successful song in Melon history. It has record for most week no.1, most hours no1, most week top 5, top 10, most months no.1 and most month in top 10. Dynamite is exceptional. Butter is a more of normal BTS songs performance on Melon

  • Honestly the worst year for kpop music for me tbh

    I agree with this.

I'm getting to the point of listening 2015-2018 albums of some groups I still haven't listened and there are actually some great ones.

This year does have some solid albums here and there, but few acts impressed me.

Weak year in terms of music.

  • Honestly the worst year for kpop music for me tbh

Yeah, this year is really weak music-wise, not just in KPOP. I'm listening to songs from <2021 now because this year is just that weak. We had ICSM, MAGO, La Di Da, HYLT, Scream, etc last year...so many strong albums and songs last year but nothing this year is really doing it for me.

  • I would add

    9. MNet doing another Produce under different name, and people... Love it.

Ps: don't tell me I'm wrong look at views number of this 30 sec teaser

Well, views nearly doubled for 2nd episode for MNet, and remember that Chinese and SEA fans are watching on IQIYI, and Japanese on AbemaTV.

I'm sure that those ratings will go even higher for the 3rd and 4th episodes which should include all first round on-stage performances from 'Connect Mission'.

  • I say latest song ,butter isn't bts latest song it's ptd

And what is surprising in PTD not doing as well as Butter? Every BTS song does not perform as well as every other.

Lame shade at BTS is expected from OP. Never change though.

Edited once, last by paradis ().

  • 2. A rookie GG, Aespa, is the Group in 2021 who release the more soty material songs among Idol groups

I don't really understand why some people always insist on Aespa being rookies to say Next Level's charting was totally unexpected. Did people forgot that Itzy's debut song was the second most successful idol group song released in 2019, that BP got PAKs with Whistle and that Playing with Fire was a hit in Korea? Cheer up was also Twice's second title track and yet their biggest hit in Korea. I don't see why the fact Aespa are still rookies is supposed to make Next Level's performance more impressive.

    3. Somi out of nowhere is performing better than other well establish soloist like Chungha, Sunmi etc...

Chungha has not been performing well for several releases. And Somi is not coming out of nowhere, her previous songs also charted on Melon even if not as high.

    4. the collab that a lot of people dreamof for years, Akmu x IU, 2 good artist in chart usually isn't performing as well than everybody would have suppose

Akmu's previous song did not chart well so I think there was some doubts about how that song would be performing but it's doing well.

    6. BTS latest song isn't doing as well than their previous release, being block by other "smaller artist" compare to them like Mujin, Taeyeon , aespa etc....

    LOL

Apparently you are talking about PTD but it's not even a title track, nobody was expecting it to perform better than Butter. We did not even know if the song would have a MV or not until like a week before it was released. It's currently charting higher on Melon than Taeyeon's song by the way (a "smaller artist" as you said who has already released big hits like Four seasons but let's call her a nugu to downplay PTD's performance).

    8. Gfriend disbanding when no one thought they would

It was their last year of contract, there was no news of renewal but yeah absolutely everyone was sure they would not disband. Gfriend's disbanding felt sudden and was clearly not handled well but saying nobody was expecting them to disband is really surprising. I was really wishing for them to continue as a group but was worried to not hear news about their renewal or about a new comback so even if it saddened me a lot, I was not that surprised.

I guess disagreeing with OP will mean I attack them according to some people.

  • That’s the agenda of that “people”. Because everyone here is so peaceful and calm. Even “people” are never hypocrites. I agree with your points better than OP’s. Calling Taeyeon smaller artists is so funny😂😂 but I guess anything to downplay BTS which is not so uncommon to some

  • PTD isn't a title track???

  • It's definitely a surprise since we didn't even know EXO were going to make a comeback.

And when they did, It was legendary.

This year, BGs had considerably done better in terms of music, imo.

EXO,TXT, SVT and TBZ released the best music this year. Top tier albums. Since we knew EXO would deliver like always, SVT and TBZ surprised me the most.

As for soloists, Baekhyun and D.O. knocked it out of park, raising the level for soloists. Shout out to Kang Daniel, U-Know as well.

    I love Pikachu.

    Always have, Always will.

    "Pika-Pi"

  • It was supposed to be a b-side on the Butter CD. But the digital version is Butter / Permission to Dance.

    So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Can we call it a post-release?

i think it's more a double title track

just like how BP release HYLT as a single/pre-release for the album

and then drop the full album with Lovesick girls with HYLT listed as a bsides in it, but considering that BP promoted Both songs, HYLT was never consider as just a Bsides of the album but as a double title track for the album

it's the same they dropped Butter as a pre-release of the single album

and then drop the full single album with PTD

if it was just a bsides they wouldn't drop a MV for the songs, they wouldn't promo it neither

  • It's definitely closer to a title track than to a b-side.
