WHY are most of you even here?

It's a great way to reconnect with my home culture. Really perfect actually for those of us expats who grew up divided between our American and Korean selves, the mix of Korean and American in Kpop seems to be targeted directly towards us (which is why im not surprised to see so many Asian Americans making up the audience in Kpop concerts here).

U don’t have to love Korean culture to like kpop since it’s just one form of entertainment among many, but given the insane amount of hate and prejudice a subspecies of users on this forum have for anything related to the real country and people of Korea it’s a very valid question you’re asking.

Like, if u hate so much why are you spending ample amounts of ur waking time here?

Unless you only stan non-Korean idols, do you think your faves are that different from other Koreans?

Also please learn some REAL knowledge before you’re hating on a wholeass country

I like forums. That’s why I’m here. If I just liked kpop I could use other social media.

The competitive nature of charts makes a lot of international fans see every Korean person who's not their favorites as a threat, really.

There's also this odd tendency to bash idols for "copying" another, although they would never say that about a western celebrity being influenced by one of their faves. If anything, they'd see it as flattering instead. You have to think about what's really going on there. Something's been internalized.

They need to save that energy for the racists and homophobes who actively oppose the growth and success of their favorites.

Yes, I definitely agree on this.

I think another contributing factor is the very skewed access to information about anything Korean that isn’t communicated through kpop channels. And I-fans for obv reasons can’t understand serious Korean news outlets or debate forums on social matters.

If you compare to e.g. USA, that dominate entertainment and news (ofc) in a language most understand, people then have access to many different point of views and can grasp the complexity of the country. But since ifans can’t do the same for Korea they rely on sources that make money of clicks and tabloid formatted “news”.

This is why it’s so funny/weird when they think “Korea” is in outrage of the smallest dumb stuff their faves does when in reality pretty much NO ONE gives a flying fck, not to say probably aren’t even aware.

No ofc. Once in a while a shining diamond appears on this forum with the ability to process that Korea is a real country and functions like any other country. But after years on this forum I can tell you it is rare. So rare.

Sorry to say I’m not sure that “most” can but I do think in later years (compared to around 2018) it has gotten a bit better.

it started because I was into everything kpop. Then the novelty died off...

Now it's just because I've been doing it for years, it's just habit to log on at least once a day just to see.

i was very active here 5-6 years back in school when i had plenty of time on my hands and was at my peak kpop phase and over the years i have grown to care less and less about idols and the whole culture and industry surrounding kpop, but i do still listen to a lot of kpop here and there and the forums are an easy way to keep up with the current industry

without akp, i'd completely lose touch with the present of kpop

i just use this as a personal journal where i just blurt out whatever weird thoughts i have at the moment in the form of random-ass threads that i don't even bother to reply to most of the time lol

I don't think the community here is too bad, definitely not as toxic as some people make out

since i don't want to have anything to do with kpop stan twitter, i don't follow any kpop fans, fansites, news accounts and etc. so i come here for the latest updates regarding my faves, which doesn't really ammount to much considering most NCT fans left this platform a while ago lol

I joined this forum to get BTS updates. That was my main objective. I don't use twitter other than absolute necessity and I found out that ARMYs on this forum used to be very quick with BTS updates and you would certainly get around to most BTS stuff if you are here.

I certainly did not care about other kpop groups or Korean music or Korea in general before I joined this forum. I would say my interest in those things is still the same but I have gotten to know them a lot more.

It's getting to the point where I just love allkpop too much! I spend like 2 hours a day here and I actually wanna cut back because idfw so much screentime. Maybe because this is my first forum experience I find it too addictive? Maybe because I can't resist bb998? Idk, someone tell me how to spend less time here it's too addictive
