Is Somi the 3rd most successful soloist in Korea right now?

She belongs in the flop group unfortunately.

Unfortunately for Somi, looks like it was the combination Teddy+YGE that made 2NE1 and Blackpink reach stratospheres as a group and in their individual projects. Without YGE and Teddy, nothing remained of CL's career, and only Teddy is far less effective, as Somi has to experience.

Is Somi doing better than all the other female solo artists? I have no idea, but it's still nowhere near the success of Taeyeon and IU.

I feel that Sunmi, Chunga and especially Hyolyn had a chance to stay on that same level, but somehow they didn't.

Now that I think of it, didn't Mamamoo members like Hwasa do better than Somi in their solo projects?

Kassy (yes UPR3 Kassy has had a string of top 10 hits). She's on melon right now and has been for a fair while.

A lot of names with past success that have fallen off considerably in recent years. Some new names with only one hit like Yena, BP soloists, and Nayeon. But finding a female soloist with two top 10 hits on Melon Daily/Weekly from 2021-present was damn near impossible.

Yeah, it's pretty harsh for female soloists to have multiple chart hits and not fall off over time.

I'm also curious to know if there have been any other female soloists aside from Taeyeon and IU who've had multiple chart hits since 2021, I can't think of any tbh.

Sorry, i had a typo - Younha it is, she's only really release one album in the time period you mentioned, but she got a number 1, and she's had a string of top 10 hits through the years. She's certainly well known as a performer, and Event Horizon is bigger then anything Somi's done musically put together.

She was featured in Epic High's song last year which went quite well.

Kassy has had -

No.3 in 2018

No.3 in 2019

No 33 and 22 in 2021

No 4 in 2022

No 32 in 2023 (to date)

She's a ballad singer whose songs land well. Furthermore she's been consistent - she's been banging out songs and as you can see has been going very well for an extended period of time.

Just because it's not discussed here or in Kpop spaces doesn't mean they're aren't well known Korean Female soloists in Korea.

first you cannot include soloist that have only released 1 track as having a "flawless" record. So that means I would not say Nayeon, Jisoo, Rose, Jenny have a flawless track as they all have only release one solo work. Somi is good but no I would not say she is a top soloist in Korea.

I am guessing this thread is for female soloists only? Cause I do know a male soloist who has 2 top 10 hits in the past 7 months alone and he only just officially debuted!!! Oh and he also has 4 top 25 hits again in the space of a year!!!

If you mean specifically in August 2023 then sure, yes, but even if they're still not making hits as of 2023, I'd wager Hyuna or BoA would still be #3 based on the power of their past success which one can't easily ignore.

Kyoung-seo had a few decent sized songs.

Young-ji is one to look out for. I don’t think she has released a proper song since winning SMTM though could be wrong

She has fallen off a bit recently but Baek Yerin was meant to perform at KSPO Dome before Covid hit

#5 peak with only JK, NJ, and a famous trot guy ahead of her, after a 2-year hiatus in kpop. Few can match that kind of staying power.

Somi is only 22 and gets better with each comeback. I'd say it's only a matter of time.

Somi also has the potential to get big internationally, more so than IU and Taeyeon (due to her magnetic personality and being fluent in English and getting better at Japanese - she'd kill it on Japanese variety).

It's funny how people keep discounting Somi only for her to come back bigger. Happened with DD and now FF.

While that wasn’t my intention behind the comment because it more had to do with her like obviously forced enthusiasm than anything, but i can see what you mean.

Her last 2 songs werent big hit but they are not unknown. So i guess Sunmi is still leagues above Somi
