think its safe to say that Korea has lost all interest in itzy

They lost their hype or momentum
since or after Wannabe era
I think the gen public /korean public not into girl crush
if you want to be the top girl group in Korea needed a GP support
aside from your own fandom
and confusing or lack of face of the group promotion
Lia had bullying scandal?
Ryujin girl crush image appeal to fan girls but lack of fanboys and gen public support
Yuna lack of individual appeal to be IT Girl aside from her visual?
then why not push Yeji as a face of the group
one thing this ITZY lack of individual or IT Girl material that is where they miss Jeon Somi badly.. -
i mean, chaeryeong worked her ass of to make sneakers have a viral moment when it was one of their worst songs and also underperforming. but when a song is "viral" sometimes people don't really attribute it to the artist. they just know it as "that viral song" i think that is exactly what happened
-
-
I don't know either way why but I enjoyed Sneakers more than Cheshire and whatever the Korean GP enjoys they enjoy
far from me to judge someone else's tastes in music when I'm (semi) tasteless

Sneakers is a refreshing summer song with good energy that's why the song was liked (+chaeryeong viral moment helped so much). Cheshire is a good song, but not a good title track for ITZY, it lacks the group own energy. This positive energy and the difficult choreos is literally the brand image of the group. I keep thinking that this latest ep is missing a song which is this itzy own song which should have been their title track. JYP is not even able to manage it properly anymore it is very worrying such a level of ineptitude.

but from reading various comments here
it seemed that Korean GP preferred S over C whilst international fans preferred C over S...
but I do agree somewhat that most of their previous TT which I've all liked generally are more upbeat and dance heavy and catchier

give them a decent song and they might do better

Korean and international audience tastes have always been different for ITZY, but even when it appealed less to the Korean public they were not outside the top100. And like i said Cheshire is not a bad song, I prefer it to sneakers personally. But this ep lacks that song which is itzy's trademark. This is all the more concerning as ITZY have always said they want to develop a style of their own.
If you really want to have your own style you can't go from dalla dalla, icy, wannabe, not shy, MITM, Loco, Sneakers to cheshire. This is where we see that JYP has nothing to do with the wishes of these female idols especially. Sneakers was already a bit out of this ITZY brand image, but honestly it looks a bit like Icy in this light summer song side. But cheshire is a totally different picture, is it bad? I personally don't think so. But does it fit the ITZY TT image? That's a whole other problem.

chaeryeong could have been it after the viral moment. she isn't exactly the "visual standard" but neither was momoland's jooe. neither was hwasa for that matter. all of this is to say there has always been a market for charismatic and fun girls over just straight up visual it girls. jype just doesn't want itzy members to reach their full potential as stars. or doesn't know how to push them in the right direction when they have any buzz

Their music is the problem
that is another problem of them
50/50 success rate for their song -
Title songs have dropped to bside quality this year. Wannabe and Not Shy were the best quality title songs they released that year. But I think the music quality of the title songs regressing after that. The quality of all of Jyp's songs and concepts released this year has dropped. Except for the Nayeon solo. Chesire, for example hasn't a fresh song and concept, that only general global fans will enjoy. Sneaker's totally Kpop song is fresher but somehow childish to foreign fans. The general Jyp issue is their idol's downfall this year. They can bounce back depending on the quality of the song and concept.

The 4.5 generation is here starting with Ive.
Remember what happened when the 3.5 generation took over Kpop, starting with Gfriend and Twice, then Blackpink and Momoland? Red Velvet, Mamamoo, AOA, and EXID began to face enormous competition.
It's not easy to have 10 GGs all consistently topping charts and right now, Itzy is under a massive combined assault on three fronts.
Leftover 3rd gen dragons like Twice, RV and Blackpink still fighting tooth and nail, other OG 4th gen peers like Idle, Stayc, and Aespa attacking their flanks, and now 4.5 gen groups like Ive, LSRFM, NMIXX, and New Jeans attacking their vulnerable rear echelon units.

4.5???? that's way too fast wtf
itzy might be 3.5 at best but there's no way these newer groups are already 4.5

People talking about the Korean Market, but if Cheshire is supposed to be their international sound, where are their spotify streams of the song?
It's at 7.4 million, which is just over an average of 500k a day.
By Comparison, their last 2 big Kpop songs released back in Oct were Nxde and Antifragile - they were averaging 1.2m and 1.4m respectively each day in streams during their promo period. Even now their still above an average of 1 million streams a day, a few months in, whereas Itzy are half that?
That's the major issue that should be raising alarm bells, not the Korean success. With their supposed "international" song.... it's not doing the numbers matching what almost all the other big 4th gen groups are doing on Spotify.

Maybe Jyp just needs to analyse Melon's listeners a bit more.
This.
I don't think JYP is doing proper market research/analysis on Korean musical trends, right now for all their girl groups..
JYP still seems on point with their groups image (mostly, lets ignore that weird nmixx face dress), with Itzy getting praise this comeback for their look.
They obviously still have brand visibility, I saw them on a fair few ads around Seoul while there and many shops still had their songs playing.
But JYP cannot get past the "How do you do fellow kids" issue with the music itself

I don’t know why but since last year Korea was slowly abandoning Itzy.. MITM and Loco are such great Itzy songs but it’s didn’t do as well as it should. Sneakers (my fav) and Cheshire (I’ve forgotten how it sounds now) are just not Itzy material. Maybe JYP purposely made the songs “milder” so it’s more gp friendly seeing how 2021 songs didn’t do well.. but it didn’t work.
-
I think the gen public /korean public not into girl crushBut isn’t that what BP, GIDLE and aespa are? The GP/Korean public are into a song and sometimes that’s girl crush and sometimes not. It’s more important that it be catchy and the hook in Cheshire isn’t that catchy. In contrast, no matter how much you dislike Sneakers, you can’t deny that hook is catchy.
(Maybe GIDLE is not girl crush - but Tomboy is a much stronger and bolder song than anything Itzy is putting out if the implication is you must be softer or cuter or poppier to succeed in Korea.)
Everyone keeps coming on about the Itzy apocalypse but Ryujin and Yeji remain in the top 50 most searched idols on Naver and Google Korea, Chaeryeong’s vid in #3 in most watched vids on YT Korea for the year, not to mention CFs with Nintendo and McDonald’s. Someone or several someone still care about Itzy. (I went to look this up because I could have sworn I saw them in the most searched..)
If it’s solely based on charts, then I don’t understand the Somi point. She is highly successful and an IT girl but her Melon charting isn’t always that great either (IIRC Dumb Dumb did well, but the next one was middle of the chart) which kind of gets to the point that success is more than where you charted on Korea’s now second largest music platform.
