Considering they’re the only company whose acts don’t sh*t the bed when it comes encore time - I’d say they’re at least innovative in continuing to debut groups with members who can actually sing.

Honestly It's interesting to note how terrified a lot of idols look these days when it's time to sing live.

4th gen: IVE/new jeans/Aespa....... for now. That might change with both lesserafim and aespa comeback depending on the gp reception (charting) and album sales.
I did not add Gidle because they have neither the fanbase size or international reach of LSRF or aespa who are growing at a more rapid pace.

1. Nct dream was never actually promoted outside of Asia till this year
2. For the most part of their career were treated like an afterthought by SM because they were a temporary unit for teen idols to promote in and graduate out of.
Given this, it's not surprising they aren't big internationally. There was no intention or effort made till now to do that.

I voted bop. I like it. It's chill and not trying to do much. It's a quietly introspective song that's trying to convey an idea.
his rap lyrics are interesting. I do agree re: the chorus sung by IU though - a bit of mangled English there, not sure the meaning because of the English.

I’m gonna be honest it’s a whole bop. I was a bit taken a back by the lyrics though. Is he talking about eggs? I think somewhere in there he mentions Gordon Ramsay too. I assume it’s symbolism cause I understand the song is about (I have no idea??)
Mark has definitely shown his solo power and I think this song will be successful. It is really good and has a good message behind it.
Anyway what are your thoughts?
He seems to be talking about different things. Multiple metaphors used through out
..on the surface "it's ok that I suck at making eggs, I'm still the sh*t"
An intent to "cook music"/make music lifelong
also a reference to the ladies love me regardless of my egg cooking skills etc
I liked the song, will need to process lyrics more.

very exciting

You see if you hadn't thrown nct under the bus - I would have fought on your side
Joking aside - that statement is preposterous - Kai and rover have organic hype. The song is fun and seeing a variety of groups (both well known and not known) doing the challenge has been a rare unifying feel good moment in kpop. It almost reminds me of 2018 era kpop - just pure fun. Not overfocusing on zombie streaming and shilling statistics.

This song is a bop and really sticks in your head. It's one of my favourites of the year so far and I have really only had peripheral interest in kai's work in the past.
I hope it continues to reach more ears. The song and his performance is very enjoyable.

First for aespa there the issue with them scrapping the songs Lee soo man made for them hence the delay
For taeyeon she’s been sending heavy hints of possibly not wanting to renew her contract. Perhaps they want to iron that out with her before any further releases
Lastly, when a lot of y’all were boycotting got the beat and let them flop badly; you didn’t think about the message that could potentially send to the company about the selling power of their female acts

I think a lot of people pride themselves on their ability to remain objective BUT
honestly I think it does affect people's subconscious feelings/associations towards the idol in question if there is a particularly persistent troll using their image as their dp.
I will admit that there is a particular jin and jhope picture that seems to be used often by the more condescending members of their fandom on here and that probably in some way affects feelings even if users aren't conscious of it.

Agreed, if everyone's new fave New Beans sang Scientist it would be breaking Ditto's records ffs.
Korea has decided that Twice is finished. It's as simple as that. Twice is no longer trendy and that's it for them in Korea.
Just like how Korea dropped Gfriend.
Just like how Korea dropped Mamamoo.
Just like how Korea dropped Brave Girls after Rollin.
Just like how Oh My Girl is in real danger of being the next domino to fall if their next comeback flops like Real Love.
When Korea decides to drop a GG, the fall from grace is viciously fast and serious it's usually not a slow bleed that takes years, it happens in like two comebacks
.
I disagree, I don't think its about trendiness of the group.
This level of charting is because the song is just not catchy or good enough to be a title track. It was honestly a chore to sit through for me and I usually like them.
They may no longer be the trendy thing in Korea and able to chart top 10 but they would still do much better than this if the song was good.

you copied this thread idea from reddit

At this point hybe could be getting into more debt to buy shares at a premium only for a bunch of SM acts to abandon ship and not renew their contracts. It's insane to me that this is being done when majority of the acts there have contracts up for renewal this year or 2024. I'd say they should sell LSM shares to Kakao and bow out.
-
NCT dream has been charting this well since 2020 so please exclude them from this narrative.
-
I definitely see some of the established acts especially ones approaching contract renewal doing this.
A precedent has already been set that as long as they all leave SM - they will be able to use the group name still.
Even if they had to change their name like Beast/highlight it would not matter to their fanbase which is already solid and loyal.

One of my concerns in all this is HYBE’s financial health. They are leveraged to the hilt and seem to want to continue to acquire debt at an alarming rate. I fail to see how buying out scooter Braun (who was in trouble from his miscalculated and frankly stupid decision to buy Taylor swifts back catalogue) and the new hip hop label was a good decision.
I feel for this reason it’s best for SM which despite its management issues is financially healthy and stable for now to not be under HYBE as their parent company.
