In October, Twice will become one very few girl groups to survive the 7-year curse with their original lineup.

Wow, I didn't realize it's that rare...
Wishing for many more years to come

Red velvet too

Red velvet too
And MAMAMOO
-
Wut? What about Red Velvet? They havent lost any members and they passed 8 years i think.
-
hmmm so the "Original Lineup" part excludes Red Velvet obviously who did technically make a lineup change
I don't like that, feels like a reach just so you can assign this "exclusive achievement" to your fave
-
And MAMAMOO
Oh right! I completely forgot of Mamamoo lol. I'll edit the title.

Changed the title of the thread from “In October, Twice will become one of two girl groups to survive the 7-year curse with their original lineup.” to “In October, Twice will become one very few girl groups to survive the 7-year curse with their original lineup.”. -
Red velvet too

The OG 4 are still there though

Yes, but Yeri wasn't part of the original lineup that debuted, which is why I chose to exclude RV.

Listen, I still stand by what I said about Red Velvet and you won't change my mind. Original lineup means no lineup changes. Losing or gaining a member is a lineup change. I have been involved in a massive and very toxic fanwar for the past few days plus things in my personal life so I really don't have the energy to fight right now. Can we please just agree to disagree.

Red velvet too
Thanks OP said “one of” and not “the only”

Dude I just made a harmless point, nothing more. No need it take seriously like a fan war.
Fine agree to disagree
even though im right lol.

And we love to see it! Also, they technically already survived it since they renewed their contracts already

Technically Sistar debuted June 3rd 2010.
Their last official performance before disbanding was Inkigayo on June 4th 2017.
So they made it over 7 years by 1 day.
Rainbow did not make it, their last comeback was February 2016, they had some shows here and there but they had no performances by the time their contracts ended on November 2016 (they debuted November 2009).
They put our a new single for their 10th anniversary, but that does not count IMO.
Another group that is debatable if they made the 7 years or not is Secret, They debuted in September 2009 and Sunhwa left on October 2016, so that is 7+ years. But the group was not performing at the time Sunhwa left, so their last official performance was before the 7 year mark, so I would say they do not count. Edit: Nah, the September date was a private event, their official debut was October, so they definitely did not make it past 7 years.
BTW Does Davichi count? There is only 2 of them, so I would say no.

It is a big deal.
The overwhelming norm is for groups to fizzle out way short of 7 years. Let alone to make it with original members. Let alone that its freaking 9 of them. 9!
It's a cool thing to celebrate. TWICE does join a small club. And in some ways enters as a remarkable entry with their large number.
-
Even with the Yeri addition they where able to break the 7 year cours because Yeri was added in March 2015 meaning the current line up has being together for 7 years

I always had this fear that Twice might see the same fate as SNSD because if the 9 member thing but I'm they were able to stay together

So Red Velvet supposedly not counting just because they added a member is incredibly dumb, but I'm not here to argue that nonsense. Instead I'll point out that Red Velvet potentially never had a 7 year curse to beat. Word on the street is that their contracts last for 10 years, not the usual 7, and they haven't actually renewed them yet. This would explain why there was never any announcement. So they basically beat the "curse" by default, although it remains to be seen whether they make it to a second contract.

That's good and in my opinion Twice are the only group worth raving about.

So is it confirmed for a 10 year contract with them?

Agreed! I hope they plan something big for the girls cos they truly deserve it! 164267-3ffe1a1a6d1f1d8e5fae480d0bd2dc34.jpg

Red velvet too
Thought their contract was longer than 7 years
-
It's odd to just assume Red Velvet have 7+ year contracts considering RV debuted when those weren't allowed anymore, and seeing how SNSD also had only 7 year long contracts.
If I'm correct, it's also not the first or only time that SM didn't publicly announce it when 1 of their groups or artists had their contracts renewed.
Like some already mentioned, there have been multiple groups where all the original members are still in the group after 7 years, like Red Velvet, Mamamoo, Dreamcatcher.
Overall it's a lot more rare than with boy groups, to have a group go past 7 years and to also have all members still be around.
I expect it to happen more often with the newer groups due to K-pop's successes worldwide.

Thought their contract was longer than 7 years
I don’t think contracts can be that long after TVXQ sued SM for super long contracts (10 years). The max is around 6 or 7 years.
RV either renewed recently quiet or they probably had their contract adjusted for some reason like when Yeri joined they might’ve had a new 7 year contract written up overriding their previous (like how if you take out a new plan/upgrade for a broadband or phone services during an existing contract you immediately get switched to a new contract). No one really knows because it’s been kept hush hush instead of announcing renewals as usual.

-
Weren't there rumors that Red Velvet debuted when they still did 10 years contract at SM
-
If Jessica Jung's "Shine" is correct, Red Velvet signed their 3-year renewals at the same time they signed their original contracts.
