It is a walkman and they were popular throughout the 80's. I got my first one for my fourteenth birthday in 1982. They were cool and everyone was wired for sound back then, also when cassettes were king.

• Most of them grew up with a computer that has the internet on it and played online games a child
• Many of them probably got their first smart phone at a very young age and grew up that people around them had phones that suport internet usage and maybe only remember smartphones as the first phones they saw
• The amount of kids wearing brand fashion in school is higher than 10-15 years ago and almost everyone has Nike-shoes nowadays
• A lot of the kids today say that in their free time they watch Youtube, go on TikTok, watch Netflix, play Playstation 4 or @@@5f400260-b1a4-4e95-8f43-67f5b97d46e3@@@ and maybe even have a VR-set at home to use. Many don't even have a hobby like sports anymore
• Especially younger people tend to post about KPop and Anime online and many of them even make memes out of it and get mad if you have a different opinion about KPop and Anime than them
• Many of them probably only eat fastfood since a lot parents don't cook anymore since in modern society most parents have both (mom and dad) working and don't like to cook in the evening cause it takes them a lot time they want to spend differently and so many teens say that they regularly go to McDonalds and similar
• When a kid says that it has stuff like a hoverboard or a fancy gaming PC at home while someone who was the same age 20 years ago most likly only played with boardgames or an oldschool gaming-device like a Gameboy for example
• Kids in the past asked for toys for christmas or their birthday, modern kids want an iphone or a Switch etc.
• The amount of savageness, sassiness, entitledness, ... kids have towards their parents gets bigger, you also see it in videos where kids for example get mad that they got an iPhone 11 instead of the 12 or where they don't get to play playstation cause of bad grades and so smash their parents TV in anger etc.
• When a 10 year old kid says it has Instagram with 500 followers on it and would spend 3 hours each day on Roblox while allready having played enough songs on Spotify for 10K scrobbles in last.fm
• They maybe correct their elderly relatives a lot of the time with "no grandma, it's called sheesh" or "no grandma, you have to open the Instagram-app on your phone"
• Their most favourite music-artist has probably debuted in the past 5 years
• They think music made before 2010 was allready old and anciant
• They probably call everyone over 25 a hag and everyone over 30 a boomer
• You get to hear "I'm so happy that I live with my parents, they pay for me. I can't imagine how expensive university is going to be when I turn 18 in 3 years and have to go to one" wich makes everyone who is 20 and up randomly feel old when they hear that
• When you tell them about something from a few years ago and they be like: "2005? I wasn't even born yet, I'm from 2008" or " wow 2009 huh? I was 2 years old back than"
• When they are at an age where you could almost be their parent allready and than tell you that their mom and dad are actually just a bit over your age (example you are 26 and meet a 12 year old on the internet and the kid says their mom and dad are only 27 and 28 years old)
• When you hear from far away some young kids say "So and than I had online class.... " or "I asked Justin for his Instagram-account"
• When a kid says they take tablets to school
• Most of your childhood snaks arn't sold anymore and kids don't understand how much you miss these and than tell you about a weird new snak they are eating since 2 years that would be apparently better not knowing that the snak you had 15 years ago was better than that
• Most kids will never understand the apeal of old cartoons
• They are probably 12 years old in ripped jeans with crop tops, tons of makeup on, yell at other people and constantly say "urg, I'm 12 ok... "
• Having 3 times more poket money than the last generation but saying "I never get enough poket money, why do my parents only allow me 80 bucks a month?"
• Many of their childhood heroes are probably Youtuber

I doubt gen z would even know what a walkman was, let alone use one. I am Gen x and definitely owned one in my teens.

My daughter is Gen Z so anything in her age group - all the tech gadgets and stuff parents my age wouldn't have a clue how to use. I still get confused with an iphone but she shows me how to fly it. They are born to that stuff that luckily for my generation was light years from being invented. (I love showing my age).

Honestly, I think our generation seems to be more aware socially about certain things, which is a good thing, but without a doubt they are probably the dumbest generation as well (not trying generalize here). With the way Gen Z acts on social media, they genuinely make me question their intellectuality.

The good aspect I have seen is, as I mentioned, social awareness, it’s good that they are not walking the same path as their narrow-minded ancestors. I find it endearing that the youth realizes that they can bring a change with the privilege they have through small steps (ex: seeing the BLM protests, Palestinian protests, and etc). It’s also endearing to see how much mental health taken into consideration nowadays as well instead dismissing it like adult in the past would often do. Definitely steps towards a positive direction.

However, their weakness is their strengths as well. Sometimes Gen Z is too socially (hyper)aware that it is counterproductive. Which defeats the purpose of what they are advocating or fighting for. You would see people— especially people on Tiktokers or influencers make it their whole personality about being Gen Z. Someone can literally be choking on air, and they will “OMG! They are so Gen Z! 🤪”

For some reason, Gen Z also has horrible communication skills in real life (I have that problem as well), I blame it on the technology. The moment most of the generation learned to breathe, they were surrounded by various different technologies. We are literally the worst at storytelling— well the main point is that most are pretty introverted with very much broken humour to the point it’s genuinely concerning. Gen Z humour basically consists of dissing each other or sarcasm, which is not bad thing, but I kind of find it sad that this is the standard of humour for our generation.
