Ever found yourself loving an idol for a non-talent reason?

Talent is pretty low on the criteria for me to adore an idol

Personality
Visuals (if female)
Everything else is bonus

I don't really love idols because of talent.
It's a nice bonus but it's not ever why I Stan an idol
I stan idols purely based on looks and personality and because I admire them as a person.
if there is an idol that is gorgeous and cool but can't really sing/rap, does it affect how you feel about them at all? Or is it just fine if the other members can pick up the slack?

Mijoo from Lovelyz. I used to like her quirks. I don't follow her anymore but I had that phase where I used to watch her funny videos.
Irene when I was new to kpop. She is breathtakingly beautiful.
Somi. I probably had crush on her when she released 'Dumb Dumb'.
Not saying any of the ladies mentioned above are not talented. They wouldn't be what they are without their talent and personalities. Just answering the question in the title.
-
yes sometimes I just be picking biases out of groups I've never listened or will ever listen to.

Lol, sometimes it can feel that way based on how often people make achievement threads vs talking about music.
Sometimes? I would say all the time. For a normal person is disturbing
-
Not really. My emotional connection isn't based on their talent or lack thereof.
It's certainly a positive and could contribute to me appreciating them.
But it's really fine if they aren't.

while i enjoy looking at visuals, ive never really stanned anyone for that alone
I usually cant stan a group if I dont like their music
but if i do like their songs, I dont choose my bias based on their looks or talent but mostly due to their personality
there's been many times I thought I was into a member because of her looks or talent but eventually my favourite member ended up being the member whose personality I could relate to the most

Definitely, those are the things that appeal to you at first.
I fell for Baekhyun's voice first after hearing City Lights. I remember looking for him in a few EXO videos after that (like CMB) and wondering if he had much of a fanbase compared to the others cuz others seemed to get more solo/center screen time and looked more attractive lol. I was like, awww he must be an underdog. I'll stan the poor guy!

She's talented, but I love her because she's adorable.
-
That's pretty specific ngl

Rather then stanning an idol for not their talent, I do found myself liking idols from groups that I don’t Stan. I watch a lot of variety show (when I have time) and I love SVT Seungkwan for being funny. I do like the groups recent songs but I regularly watched shows for Seungkwan only. He is not only funny but has an amazing voice too.

yep, more often than not, for me, visuals is what would really appeal to me first before i get interested to find out about their personality, talent, music etc

I'm pretty sure that 99.999% of the time for kpop fans

There definitely is. Some idols are clearly better singers and dancer than other idols and is very easy to separate.
But then when we look at the very top singer or dancers, I have a hard time determining if one is better than the other, theyre just all very good and I can't really say one is better than the other. If I stan based on talent, then I would like every other main dancers out there.
Take humor for examples, I guess for me, it's easier to separate which idol is funnier or quirkier than another. I only find a select few idols very funny and I stan most of them.
But the same could definitely be said for personalities too, I'm sure some would argue every idol is funny or have interesting personalities, but I'm I feel that's not the case so I choose biases based on that and I'm sure you can probably differentiate talent much better than I can

Wow the replies to this are very surprising to me...
No - I have never become a fan of an idol for non talent related reasons... to even become a fan of an act - I have to like the music and respect the artistry in some form...like I genuinely marvel at people who are winwin stans but this thread has really opened my eyes to the fact that most people don't care too much about skills...
I guess for me - I don't watch outside of music content that much so I don't care about personality and I am more impressed at singing/rapping/dance skills/if their lyrics speak to me...

I don't think I can differentiate talent any better than the next person tbh. I think most main vocals are really good singers and then after that it's just a matter of personal preference.
I don't actually watch much variety or other content so I don't really know their personalities. I am drawn to charismatic onstage personas tho.

I'm like you. I don't watch much content so I don't really know their personalities much. And when I do, I generally will enjoy it more if it gives me insight into something related to their work. Like, my fave MX content was a video of them working on a part switch. I appreciated seeing Wonho working as a producer and trying to help them adjust to their new parts.

? Aespa are actually talented though so....they objectively have the best vocal line for 4th gen girl groups.

Yeah that make sense. Who we prefer and stan is probably heavily determined by how we consume the content. In your case, since you don't watch variety and such, then I can completely understand, talent and charisma would be key.
And then for me, I enjoy the memes, jokes, silly clips, etc hence why I choose personalities. -
