do you think jype regrets letting go of somi considering she's seen major success at tbl doing the one thing jype wouldnt let her do?

  • whether somi had ended up in itzy or solo under jype, she would have brought in a lot of profit. and one of the main reasons she apparently left jype was bc they would not let her have a hand in production the way she wanted, which tbl lets her do. crazy stuff to think about. im sure somi is happy with her decision tho. jype has a horrible track record with soloists other than baek yerin who's success was pretty much not even thanks to jype

  • Well JYP almost had IU and other trainees/auditioners that became big later. I think the regret feeling grew numb by now.

also, tbh Somi's freedom and treatment in the blacklabel is one of the reasons she is thriving. Jyp probably knows that if they had her they wouldn't treat her like that.

  • Somi's dad revealed that he didnt want her daughter to be MIA for weeks at a time while she was basically slaving away 24-7 for JYP. I think both he and Somi were shook at what JYP made Twice go through in 2017-2018 and they didnt want none of that for Somi.

At TBL, Somi basically gets what she puts in. She's allowed to be herself, to move at her own pace, to do what she wants whether its CFs, variety shows, music. Like you said, she's also encouraged to learn how to write and produce. TBL wont baby you but they will allow you to grow. Hell, TBL itself isnt really a Kpop label, it's mostly just a bunch of songwriters and producers like 24, Vince, R Tee, Danny, etc.

  • I don't think so. A popular member doesn't always translate to a popular group.

She doesn't fit itzy. Itzy members have very different vibes than Somi. Yuna fits better in itzy.

And jyp sucks at handling solos. I think her leaving benefited both. I'm sure jyp doesn't care.

  • If JYPE does not have its own success, then there might be regrets, but that is not the case.

Also after 30 years, JYP is a businessman, he has seen many who had the potential to be great fail and failures achieve success, it is a fast moving industry, and regrets are of no use.

If at all, the biggest regret would the parting of Bang SI Hyuk. not only because of BTS, but long before BTS, Bang was delivering many hits to JYPE groups.

Hitmaking PDs are million times more valuable than artists, though they don't get the fan-fame, but have to be satisfied with millions and billions of Kaching.

  • Question is would JYP release only 1 spng per year for her?

Honestly with the way she already had taken IV's during Dumb Dumb promotions I think that it's better for her to be in TBL because she would probably be a member who will be on hiatus due to health issues.

Girl is walking on a thin line with that weight loss and let's just hope it won't have any bad consequences in near future, not even thinking about long term ones...

Also I think that cf model / idol split life works well for her.

Still personally I prefer when my favs focus on music and are mainly active in this field and cf's and other activities are just a bonus.

  • Not to sound mean, but I would say no. I'm glad she's doing what she wants to do (my objections to TBL aside). But, I think JYPE knew what they wanted and could do with her and what they couldn't. She certainly would've brought a built in fanbase with her if she had stayed and debuted in ITZY. But ITZY has proven to be building a steady fanbase of their own. It was probably best that they both cut ties.

  • JYP doesn't seem like the type of person to dwell on the past.

Really, it depends on why Somi left, and we still have no idea because neither Somi nor JPY have ever said why... and probably never will.

If it's because Somi wanted much more creative control, probably not. JYP doesn't have a history of giving creative control to his female group artists.

If it's because Somi wanted to go solo, probably not. I'm sure JYP knows he is terrible at managing solos.

If it's because he thought Somi didn't fit what he wanted Itzy to be, probably not. That's subjective, and JYP seems too hard-headed to make creative concessions.

If it's because he didn't want to give Somi the contract she wanted, probably. He must now realize he lost one of the best centers, but more importantly the best face in the business. Any reasonable contact concessions would have been worth it in the end.

Teddy saw the value Somi could provide as the best face in the business, and gave her the contract she wanted. Now Somi not only promoted herself to become one of the biggest soloists (with probably 8 years or more as an idol still ahead), she has also promoted Teddy's young and relatively unknown label (to potential idols) and made it far more inviting to the best idol trainees (both by being an example of a successful idol in the label and by directly promoting the label and staff: watch "I Am Somi" or some of her TV appearances to see what I mean). Before Somi, why would a potential idol have applied to TBL instead of YG? Teddy was probably getting YG's leftovers for TBL before Somi. He couldn't make a group that meets his standards with that.

  • She's doing what she wants, she earns her own money and doesn't have to divide it between other members, she can live with her family and not in a dorm, she can talk about dating, boyfriends and freely show off her friendship with female and male artists.

She's doing good and jype knew they couldn't give her what she wished for, that's why they let her go in good terms.

  • This is so funny

  • No, not in the slightest.

There have been 90+ Idols that have been through JYPE that have debut for other companies because that's the quality of people that JYPE train, Somi is just another name.

JYPark tends to pay lip service about the regret toward IU, but she is a Nations' Title person, that is Nation's Little Sister.

But with Somi, she quit JYPE

I pressed the angry emoji by mistake it should be the thumbs up sorry

  • lol, of all the people that left, I think she will be one of the bottom one that JYPE would care about.

I also have a hunch that JYPE didn't want her due to her personality.

  • Maybe she was more successful because she left. And she achieved the solo career earlier. I mean, she wouldn't have been a soloist if she hadn't left Jyp, she'd be competing to be the most popular member in a girl group. Somi would be one of the most popular members in Itzy but Ryujin and Yeji are pretty popular too. So the only difference was that she achieved solo freedom quicker. Maybe they are destined to be successful elsewhere. So it was better for Somi that way. I don't think she would have been as successful if she had stayed at Jyp. As far as I can see, Jyp doesn't make Solo music very much.

  • Not sure. Just here to post Somi’s XOXO fancam because I just love her jeans n abs lol

She's still booked though. Even around that time, he said he barely saw her because she was so busy. She'd be slaving away for someone or something either way. It's how she gets paid.

  • Out of all the successful people JYP had let go, she’s probably the one they regret the least about to be frank.

Just because someone end up being successful doesn’t mean they would had the same outcome had they stay with JYP. The company has their own distinct style and all those who left found success with their own style.

For Somi case they were able to profit from her for a while already. They knew fully well her potential, and her current success is something they should have been able to predict. Yet they split amicably. That show that somi and jyp future plans don’t match. There is nothing regrettable about being to make decision knowing fully well the outcome. The worst regret is always the “what could have been”.
