I thought EXO was very popular in Korea, like really Big. So why are charting very low?

Special album and Korean fans boycotting.
-
it's unpromoted and a special release

even K-exols didn't know they were coming back and they aren't promoting either

that's what exols were saying though and it makes sense

Your definition of fan is very narrow. I’m a fan of many people and I have no idea when they drop an album unless there is some type of noise about it.
Only people who only know to be overly into or obsessed with the groups or acts they Stan won’t understand something so simple.

Special album and Korean fans boycotting.
Those fans shouldn't be called fans
And let's not forget SM's nickname Sh*t Management.
-
I mean they're a boy group, it's pretty self-explanatory. Didn't they say themselves that it's just a special gift and that the fans shouldn't focus on charts and stuff?
-
that's what exols were saying though and it makes sense
That’s what SOME EXO-Ls were saying, but again, it makes zero sense. If they didn’t know, they weren’t fans.
You’d literally have to live under a rock or not be a kpop fan to not know EXO was releasing music.
Koreans have access to more press, updates, and teasers than international fans purely by knowing korean and having playlist/listing in their Korean streaming services that show new music.
This grand conspiracy that EXO performance is due to EXO-Ls living under a rock and getting blindsided that their favorite group is releasing music is STUPID.

I mean for a group not doing much they are doing pretty well for brand value rankings for june 2021 sitting at #2
The Korean Business Research Institute has revealed this month’s brand reputation rankings for male idol groups!
The rankings were determined through an analysis of the consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community indexes of various boy groups, using big data collected from May 12 to June 12.
BTS topped the list for the 37th consecutive month with a brand reputation index of 15,187,718, marking an 11.43 percent increase in their score since May. High-ranking phrases in the group’s keyword analysis included “Billboard,” “Butter,” and “Oricon,” while their highest-ranking related terms included “No. 1,” “surpass,” and “release.”
EXO rose to second place in the rankings after seeing an impressive 149.64 percent rise in their brand reputation index since last month. The group scored a total index of 5,264,321 for June.
NCT came in at a close third with a brand reputation index of 5,106,662, marking a 46.65 percent increase in their score since last month.
Check out the top 30 for this month below!

ok that's what I read I hope an exol can clarify this I don't really know

Anyway the truth is there is nothing to be excited about. It happened with Baekhyun too. There was some anticipation there when we thought he would promote it a bit so it charted really well initially but then he quickly dropped on the chart when it was clear there would be no promo.
With exo we knew from the beginning there would be no promo.
Music shows. Performances. Hype. These things give fans incentive to stream and esp a fandom driven group like exo.
You can’t drop an unprompted special album, have no promo and have half your members enlisted and expect fans to stream. I know exo is popular but this is too much of an expectation even for exo. I wanna see how many ppl do as well as exo under similar circumstances. Lol.
Exo did have a great debut on the international charts but I predict that too will dwindle down when we see there will be no promo or performances.

Their fans aged out, now they're adults and have jobs or kids
Can't waste their time pointless streaming so old men could win a cheap music trophy
Really? I thought Kpoopies never grown. I mean, you can look in this forum some dumb old kpoopies waisting their time talking about the same Kpop topics over and over and over. I guess i was wrong.

I remember when my fave TVXQ dropped a special album, the charting was horrendous lmao
To be fair SM 2nd gen BGs were never known for their digital success even during their peaks Kek so the expectations are different but still all the same haha.
You need SOME hype after album drop you can’t just dip ffs kekek.

Please don't let his ill-chosen username fool you. He's not a BTS Fan either.
From: Butter is just dynamite2.0
Agree. And the most disappointing thing is that is a poor tribute to Queen. Well, atleast is better than Kayne West tribute, that is something
From: BUTTER vs NEXT LEVEL
I will choose Next Level because atleast is something "new", Butter is just dynamite 2.0
From: BTS X TWICE who is bigger in japan?

I originally planned to just lurk while I take a break from lexicons, emotes, etc. But what the heck is this user's schtick?

I hypothesize that the bts in his name stands for bitter troll syndrome. I think I might be on to something

They actually held on longer than I thought for the 9 k exols we have left.
Wasn’t really expecting much from an unprompted album that dropped with 4 members in the military, no variety, music show performances, radio appearances. It was pretty much called a special album because they weren’t going to do anything with it except give it to the fans.
-
how many members are in the military?

This. Half the members went to the military. Two of the existing members now just came back from the military and Kfans obsessive nature trying to boycott the members who either got married or had baseless rumors. All while still doing great in sales (1m+ preorder) and getting no.1 in 80+ countries on iTunes. If that's not an indication for popularity IDK what is. Also, EXO members are one of the few idols who are still recognizable by older GP. I think if they went to more varieties as a group, it would have boosted their charting in Korea. But clearly, that is not their intention and the album is purely for the fans.

My reaction exactly. People are like they’re so low on the charts and I’m like wow they lasted this long
