When IVE and LE SSERAFIM meet, what is the Korean protocol for seniority?
ive debuted half a year before lsfm, but sakura and chaewon were seniors from izone
and sakura has been in the entertainment industry since 2011
who talks or bows first, more, etc.?
korean professional protocol seems as complicated as legal procedures
In the comments above people seem to think it's just by group debut, irregardless of other consideration.
But didn't this just come up on Queendom. Where VIVIZ took issue with being considered lower in the hierarchy since they are in effect industry veterans and their peers seniors and only nominally "lower" due to redebut?
Maybe it's not so simple.

I guess VIVIZ see themselves as more of a subunit than a whole new group. 
From what I've noticed it depends on if it's specifically someone being in another group. Like idols who have debuted in groups later on or even been in project groups, tend to refer to people who debuted before their group as a senior, but for something like a subunit from the group or a solo release, people would still treat them like the senior.
Like for instance when Hui from Pentagon was in Super Five (a project group from 2020), they met itzy backstage and he called them sunbaenim and they got flustered.

in Happy together Sunny bowed to Solji (although kind of jokingly) because she was her senior since she debuted before SNSD even if she debuted after SNSD with EXID so i am guessing is about who debuted first and not which group?
The individuals who have prior experience/debuted before le sserafim are seniors of IVE I guess, but what about the ex members of wanna one who debut in 4th gen groups, do they call their peers Seniors?
Where are the Koreans when we need them?
I'm sure Sakura and Chaewon will keep treating Wonyoung and Yujin as their babies same as how Eunbi treated Wonyoung even though that makes sense since Eunbi debuted solo before Ive

Not the first time. I recollect Sejeong talking about meeting Wanna One - who are juniors to IOI, but Nu'est Minhyun was senior to her.
Yes it gets complicated.
But as a group IVE is the senior, however individually Sakura would be the most senior, if Japanese debut is considered or even if only Korean is considered, she would be as the oldest among the 2 groups etc.
It's not a "black or white" thing.
As a group LSRF is a junior to IVE, but if a member of IVE like Gaeul ever referenced individual members of LSRF who debuted first (like Sakura), I believe she might refer to them as "sunbaenim", out of respect. It would be quite disrespectful when singling out a member and referring to them as a junior, especially in Sakura's case where she's also older and a veteran.
For example, Bang Chan refers to Kwon Eunbi as "sunbaenim", despite her debuting in both IZ*ONE and as a soloist after Stray Kids - simply because Eunbi had been in the business since 2014 (in Ye-A).

Did the 2 girls with the solo careers debut before IVE? They may have seniority.
I know they do it sort of jokingly, but I have heard idols say 'Ariana Grande sunbaenim', I don't know if Ariana has ever debuted in South Korea 
I guess that in theory, if BTS and Sakura were doing a show in Japan, they could call her Senpai.
But I am not sure if they are as strict in Japan as in Korea with the seniority thing.
I think company or work place hierarchy takes precedence over age in Korea. I vaguely remember seeing it in some YT vlog. So if your boss is younger than you, you still have to refer to them using honorific.
I’m assuming debuting earlier means you are technically senior in the work place
In 1-1 interactions probably they’’k still use hyung-unnie based on age. But as a group they’ll bow, do all the things Junior groups do etc. Tho I don’t think 6 months this holds any weight. If they were 2-3 years maybe.
Like I think TXT or En- will regard Dream as seniors even if they’re all around the same age.

I think they just joking but yes I think Sakura would be senpai to BTS if they meet in a Japanese show or something. I think Japanese have a strict hierarchy as well.
