Has individual popularity ever benefited a group?

i think it rarely happen but so far in Astro's case it seems Eunwoo popularity kinda give a big boost to the group last year.

???? I think it was the synergy of the individual popularity that helped Blackpink. Jisoo was the most anticipated one predebut because of her advertisements, Jennie running man solidified their status in Korea, Lisa’s popularity in China and sea solidified them Internationally and Rose is most popular in Australia so it helped. It’s not anything like a Suzy miss A situation

It really seems to hurt a group more than help, but I guess once a company decides a group has no more potential to grow, the put all their resources behind the member that has the most popularity

Normally, it should be helpful but the management decided to focus on one member, you should remove Seolhyun because she actually helped the group, heart attack era was after her viral cf and it did really well on charts besides Aoa wasn’t that bad digitally

originally Zico's blow-up in popularity helped Block B for like a year and a half. But then the group got put on ice for like another 1.5 years because either he or the company wanted to focus on his solo stuff, so even in that case yeah it didn't help I guess.

Now I can't prove this but you can argue tzuyu scandal in 2016 helped the group.

I feel like in boy groups it helps the group but for some reason with girl groups it ends up tearing there friendship apart.

Extreme disparity of course can be bad, as seen with Suzy and Hyuna whose individual popularity was far larger than their group's popularity.

But when other members are somewhat popular or wellknown too and the gap isn't that big, then of course individual popularity will help boost the group popularity, that's the whole idea behind having stan attractors in idol groups.

When SNSD weren't that big yet, in 2008 before Gee, Taeyeon's success as an acclaimed OST singer with 'If' and Yoona's success as the lead actress in a popular drama show that had 40% viewer ratings at its tops, were definitely what helped SNSD's popularity give a boost with the general public.

In fact, SNSD members mentioned this fact in interviews and commented on it, saying they were grateful for Yoona helping them become known more.

I can recall myself that it was actually Sunny that drew my attention at first, due to hilarious videoclips of her that got shared on another non-kpop forum. She fascinated me, and the group she was part of didn't mean anything to me, but due to me getting to learn more about Sunny also opened up my attention to the group and made me like them for all they were.

So yes, individual popularity can definitely help group popularity.

I was just about to say this!

Even though Suzy popularity overtook the group the GP was there for the girls music. Their final song ‘Only You’ did amazingly well despite it not winning any music show wins. So I wouldn’t say she didn’t contribute nothing when she carried the group on her back. So to answer your title question Suzy’s individual popularity did benefit Miss A on the charts.

If Astro didn't have Eunwoo, they'd be on like Imfact's level in terms of popularity. Maybe Pentagon or SF9's level if they were lucky.
