    What do you think? :pepe-notes:

    Yes it's a long video.

  • I've watched the whole video, and the problem is that the guy who did this video don't know so much about kpop.

The real game changer are BTS for BG and Mamamoo for GG. The fact that he is given so many examples without ever mentioning MMM proves that he has little knowledge, because everything he said applies to MMM.

In the case of Dreamcatcher the real particularity is to have known how to survive and bounce back but even on that we could also mention Oh My girl.

In my opinion game changer of this 4th gen for GG, will be the birth of a BTS for the GGs, that is to say a group coming from a small company and which will dominate the market and I think that's what will save the market.

For me Dreamcatcher is one of those very talented GG's who deserve every one of their fans and success and deserve even more. I hope they will be even more successful in the future and that the era of "visual" groups will end for the GG.

I'm personally tired of seeing all these groups that came out of big companies getting popular and getting all the attention because they have pretty faces. It's very unpopular but I still think groups like Girls Generation, 2NE1 and Twice have done a lot of damage to the GG market.

  • Just because someone didn't mention the groups you wanted them to mentioned doesn't mean they have poor knowledge of Kpop. And then you proceed to compare Dreamcatcher to Oh My Girl. OMG has never been in the position of Dreamcatcher, they never failed, they never had to rebrand. Yes, they didn't have a hit song until 2020 but they were still around. Dreamcatcher rose from literally ashes, touring some 500 people capacity clubs in Europe and US to make money, the came all the way up climbing one staircase at once.

It's not the group i wanted them to mention like you said. Mamamoo is really unknown by international kpop fan, but their impact and influence on the industry is huge. It's like talking about the history of YG without talking about 2NE1.

It's true, but I'm highlighting here the fact of seeing groups of small companies surviving and gaining popularity over time against all odds. For the rest it's a personal story that is specific to each group . That was mostly what i wanted to say.

  • Actually I do think DC has kind of had an influence. There are more dark concept or songs with rock elements now. Even IDLE is trying out the rock sound.

I mean who knows if Dreamcatcher was an inspiration to those who have rock elements in their songs. Of course DC can’t claim credit for every rock inspired kpop song, we’d have to ask the artists themselves lmfao.

Itzy been doing pop rock songs since March 2020 doe.

  • I think DC is a story of underdogs. Like underdogs, they may not have much fans but everyone is rooting for them.

What makes a group successful? These kinds of thread pops up all the time in AKP and it always have the same responses. Just random pull up any AKP thread regarding this topic and you'll find the following reasons. And these reasons are reason people hate for how a group becomes successful.

    1.) Visuals

    2.) Luck

    3.) Trendy appealing music

    4.) Big 4

    5.) General public support

6.) From a idol produce show

DC literally has everything stacked against them. They are took the recipe for how to fail in every way.

1.) Visuals - Not saying DC is not a visual group, visual is subjective but even small to mid-tier groups have key visuals that are constantly talked about. Take for example, Yiren, Arin, Heejin, Miyeon, etc. I don't remember the last time anyone talks about any DC members in a visual thread that is not by an InSomnia. Simply, DC as a group does not have any "visual advantages"

2.) Luck - When users mention luck, they normally refer to a song going viral for good or bad reasons, celebrity endorsement, etc. DC has never had any song go viral or even come close. If anything, luck has been against DC. There were a few times I recall where DC probably coulda gotten a win but the show is cancelled/postponed and the score for comeback week no longer counted.

3.) Trend - DC has never followed the trend. In fact, the whole rebrand was because they needed to move away from the trend. Debuting in an era where cute concept was the trend with groups like Twice, Gfriend, Oh My Girl, DC was the complete opposite and went against what most reasonable company would do. A dark rock sound was very risky and DC took that risk and the reward isn't even immediately apparent. Keep in mind, it took years for DC to get to a point where they are considered "sustainable" Being a "niche" alone was not enough for the group, it took more than that.

4.) Big4 - Happy Face entertainment is as nugu as nugu can get. There isn't much to say on this point, DC did not have any advantages of being from a big or even middle sized group.

5.) General public - A truly "dark" concept is very taboo in asian culture. DC is satanic cult dark, at least at the time of rebrand. Their rock sound is not popular in korean. In fact, ask most why DC isn't successful and

6.) Produce show - nothing to say on this, DC has nobody from a produce show.

DC stands for all things good with kpop and music. Let's look at the rest of the reasons people would say why a group is successful.

    1.) Good music and consistency

    2.) Hard work

    3.) Talent

    4.) Relatable members

This post is already long enough so I don't want to stretch it more but the DC has all the above reasons. That's why DC are underdogs and people root for them. They don't want groups to succeed because of the above 6 reasons because they are not good reasons a group should succeed but they are the reality in why groups succeed.

The above4 reasons are the reason people really want for the reason for why a group is doing well and I would argue those are the reasons DC is able to stay alive in this industry with everything stacked against them.

I don't think this is a turning point tho. As a whole, the industry has not changed, DC is just proof that with hard work, consistent good music, talent, and great members, they can survive and people love to see this.
