survival show groups always sell high, it is not some new fact
just look at the best selling debut album on Hanteo
first 4 are all from survival shows X1, Enhypen, WannaOne and Treasure and 5 and 6 have former survival show members
X1 managed to sell just better than Enhypen because produce has much better ratings than i-land so bigger korean fanbase thus more sales
but none of the groups that has former produce members doing relevant now, TBZ and ATEEZ doing much better not having former produce members
-
I wouldn't consider it exactly equivalent, definitely being attached to someone emotionally and accompanying them to their lowest and bestest makes people much more dedicated so produce groups always do stellar numbers, but this kind of privilege doesn't have longevity so I always think these produce groups lose relevancy as time goes even if they have promoted like normal group, for big 3 groups we are not familiar with the members so not many people would likely to devote them at debut besides dedicated company stans, they take time to grow fanbase, so even if they start lower than produce groups I definitely think they would grow much faster than them

I won't disagree because u made some points. But to say they wouldn't be a threat is wrong. The reason why post produce groups don't work out mostly is because the stans of the particular idol isn't interested in stanning someone besides that idol. The dynamics work very different.Just look at what happened to post ioi groups yet the members have better career than most in kpop industry.

Tragic numbers . Irrelevant to gp

Both skz and treasure got survival shows too, the gp simply didn't care, both have mediocre debuts and to this days after treasure is 2 years old and skz 4 they haven't reach x1 level
And the one that do "best digitally" : txt didn't have one, compared to others txt didn't even reveal their face predebut

Wow, X1 is still at the top. Sometimes I think their disbandment was a blessing in disguise to other 4th generation groups. If they were still here, I’m sure we would’ve seen another W1 monopoly effect.
Also, Polaroid Love, I’m so happy to see that it’s holding so well. Maybe their next comeback they will do even better.
-
They would without a doubt, be the biggest 4TH gen BG right now
-
Yes, they were a Produce group, however, that’s equivalent to being a Big4 group. So, they definitely had that hype.
But to say they wouldn’t be a threat would be quite an inaccurate statement.
They sold 500k in the first week of debut (higher than Wanna One’s first week for comparison) and 800k-900k in total for a debut album, that alone was HUGE for 2019.
Even their debut album’s digitals on Gaon were 300M-400M total, they were the only 4th generation boy group to have the highest digital score. If I recall it right— to this day they remain at the top, not to mention they’re only 2nd after Wanna One to do so with a debut album. Even on MelOn if I remember correctly, their charting was really good.
Their debut showcase was held at Gocheok Sky-dome for two days, they were sold out in a matter of seconds, I remember the crazy demand they had in Korea. For a group to go to that dome right after their debut is scary, because fandom wise (based on debut physicals) they were definitely seeming bigger than Wanna One. If they remained, they would’ve definitely abolished most boy groups chance to thrive in South Korea for sure. It’s unfortunate we never go to see the end of their 5 year contract, but may be that’s how it was meant to be. The members definitely didn’t deserve that, and I will never forgive CJ&EM for that.

Also, let me just say this.
IZ*ONE was amazing as a group, and after they disband and re-debut be it solo or in new groups, I know eventually the collective success of all the new debuts would probably be bigger than IZ*ONE. The group has done amazing and also paved the way for individual members future careers. We see great solo debuts from Yena/Yuri/Eunbi and IVE is doing amazing. Sakura+Chaewon group will no doubt do well and I'm excited to see what Chaeyeon is going to do next.
Compared to X1 though it's a totally different story. The collective success of all the groups, would probably fall way way below than the potential success that X1 could have with a 5 year contract. It was stupid of MNET and the respective companies of the members to let the group go

The cynic in me wonders whether the whole MNET rigging scandal was a power play by someone from Big4 that wanted to take down X1 and Izone to make way for their own 4th gen groups. X1 was a huge threat that sold like 700k of their DEBUT album. Izone ended up selling 3 million total albums in 2.2 years.

700k
it was like 650k
