Seems like this is part of the Korean FTC's 2023 agenda. A week ago they did a similar thing with Kakao Games, NCTSOFT, Netmarble and Nexon. I know that these kinds of contract issues are a problem in creative industries where I live as well, especially for freelancers, so I'm not surprised that these companies will make widespread use of it. Based on previous cases the FTC will most likely give out a so called corrective order which is basically just a warning.

It's beyond annoying. Every time South Korea is going thru some shit, they whip out the BTS mock images like do they not have 995405035 other groups' mock images they can use? Always giving the impression BTS is about to be involved in something.

So JYP is in trouble then? JYP Loud group has not debuted in over two years despite their exclusive contracts.
Also, Lee Seung Gi the host made this comment during the show but is interesting now regarding how JYP’s group have not seen the light.

They always come around, just like i predicted, they always do. Wait till they see how Kpop consolidates over the next few years like i predicted with SM-Kakao, Hybe-YGE-Naver, and some combination of JYP, CJ, and a few of the top mid majors like Cube and RBW.
Also on a different but even more important topic, magine these headlines when Korea finally comes around to my way of thinking on a whole host of Izone related topics:

You sure about the Big 5 comment? Kakao has Ive and IU, the top 2 digital acts in all of Korea, plus two more top 10 GGs and BGs respectively in Stayc and Boyz. Plus MX who are still going strong doing solo stuff while members are enlisted, and Weeekly still active. They're way ahead of YGE and rivaling JYP and SM even without SM.
The Korean FTC would not act unless there was a complaint, it also seems that it could involve all 5 Companies at some point.
When you consider the rapid growth of album sales since 2020 for those 5 companies and the increased merchandise sales, there are bound to be short cuts that were made.
Some subsidiaries of HYBE and KAKAO have no experience in handling huge volumes of Albums and Merchandise, in particular, the subsidiaries that have GG's. Pledis and Big Hit should be fine though
The Big 3 also have had huge sales, especially JYPE that has 4 Idols Groups that have sold millions of albums each since 2020. On the other hand, SME are used to dealing with sales volumes of those sizes.

Yes they are focusing on subcontracts right now but that doesn't mean they won't look into idol contracts. That's like the police telling you they are there for the drugs in the search warrant but won't happily investigate that murder you have in the closet too. Oh trust they will take whatever they can get. If they looking for one illegal thing they will decide to look for All the illegal things
I hope they will cancel any renewal contracts prematurely signed/ slave contracts because those were circumvention of the law.

I Was about to get so excited but it's nothing 
Kakao has majority shares in SM, but SM is not yet a subsidiary of Kakao. So I wouldn't say that it is just because of SM. Even in the tweet, you can see that SM is still listed separately as it's own entity. Whereas when it comes to Kakao Entertainment, the only big name under them that most people would think of is IVE. There is IU too, but she's usually the second to come to mind. If anything, it's a combination of both.
