What's your opinion about Choi Yena's comeback song being called "Hate Rodrigo", talking about Olivia?

I hate the whole concept couldn't the company come up with something original ? Saying it's an homage is just a lazy way of saying we couldn't come up with an original image for our artist, Yena's debut concept was nice but it seems her company didn't know how to evolve Yena's career around it

I think it's a terrible title. They could pay homage in a more subtle way

Imagine if Olivia making a song titles as hate Yena, hate Izone, hate Ive, hate Lessrrafim, hate etc kpop idols.... Can you imagine how their fans gonna reacts? I know it's a homage song for Olivia but it's not a smart things to do. Olivia's fans is not a kpop fans, most of them don't even know Yena or wanting to hear her song. They will see the title and run with it. They can change the title into something positive to avoid all the misunderstanding but I guess they want that noise marketing and bad publicity is still a publicity. I don't even know if anyone would like their name to be associated with things like this especially without their knowledge.

If you name it Love Rodrigo, nobody will talk about it.

It reminds me of the nonsense I read when ITZY announced its MITM comeback with the so-called cultural appropriation. Once again everyone creates polemics even before having listened to the song. And the song is called "Hate Rodrigo" not "Hate Olivia Rodrygo" no reason to create controversy before even hearing anything.

Some folks need to touch some grass. This is a literal non issue, only Kpoppies would make it one. It is CLEARLY an homage, they literally explain it in the promo materials, and yet some Kpoppies still pretend to be outraged and offended on Olivia's behalf (as if they even care about Olivia lol) to throw hate at Yena. I see rampant jealousy here since Yena is the only 4th gen soloist to ever have a top 10 song on Melon.

Now, if you wanna argue that the title is dumb or cringey, that's a legit criticism. It's clear that Yuehua has literally no one that is fluent in English, including poor Yena herself. And they clearly dont wanna spend 10 bucks to hire a college English speaking intern to review the title and other related material that is in English.

I think i saw a phrase in the promo material that went like "I am jealousy Rodrigo" or something like that I'm not gonna rant too much about this since Yuehua Korea is obviously nugu and cant be held to the same standards as YGE, Hybe, etc but i just wish these labels would still make SOME EFFORT to get the English right. Like i've said many times already, there are plenty of English resources in effing Seoul, it's a global city ffs, and fluent English speakers actually exist in Kpop. A simple call to Somi couldve worked WONDERS for the song title and the rest of the promo omg.

I find this kind of noise marketing really annoying. The song will obviously be like "I hate Rodrigo, she makes me want be like her" and that kind of songs are lame and boring too.

I only briefly registered the song may be about Olivia, but then that thought flew away because who cares?

So, is it dumb enough for her to get hate? No.

Western celebrities are used to these kind of songs. They get songs made about them and titled after them all the time.

If Olivia saw the song title, she'd probably think, "Damn, wtf?", but still be happy that people are talking about her. Then, once she actually hears the song, it'd be a nice little ego boost. Plus, this is the same girl who wrote a whole song to roast her ex-Joshua Bassett and his new girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter, which got them hate for a long time. (Not saying that to say that she deserves to have a hate song written about her. Especially by a KPOP star she doesn't even know, but just to say that this is nothing new in Western celebrity culture. Plus, Yena has already clarified what the song is actually about.)

I can see why this would be weird for Korean fans, and I do think the title and content is a bit cringey. Especially as someone who could give 2 whatevers about the person the song is paying homage to. Despite that, Yena meant no harm, the song will cause no real harm, so yeah...

I just hope it's good as a Yena fan, and hope it can recapture that Smiley magic somehow.

It would’ve been a better idea to make a song about being jealous of other girls or whatever this one was aiming to do and simply recreate scenes of Olivia’s music videos as an homage (ofc with a better title too). Right now it’s kinda cringe and lacks any kind of nuance which is a bad thing in this case because of the way the title can be interpreted.

I hope Yuehua doesn’t repeat this sort of concept for Yena she deserves better

Well, that sounds like a problem for all the other idols and labels, and not my Izone babies. We're almost at 5th gen now, only a year or two away, and if other labels dont feel confident to start pushing their supposedly "top" 4th gen idols into solo works, then that's not Yena's fault.
