I love Irene but let's be real, personality. Suzy vibe is warmer which appeals a lot more to the overall public.

Let's not act like Irene was not Korea's darling for awhile there. For awhile, it was her, Jennie, and Hwasa.

Couldn't see any article or vote about visuals without Irene being mentioned. She was starting to build on her acting career when the scandal broke. She was on her way to acting/cf gold.

Plus, let's not forget Suzy started out as a baby, and JYP pushed her hard af out of the gate with addition to her popularity. So, she had a major advantage in that retrospect. I don't feel like SM really started pushing Irene individually until years after her debut.

It's her vibe. She has a very sweet girl-next-door childhood best friend type of aura, which appeals more to the GP.

Irene was basically called an ice princess since RV debut and then when her controversy came out it really cemented that. It showed the public that she really was ‘cold’ and her it girl days was over in a heartbeat.

Also, Suzy was popular from the start her pre-debut pictures were viral during her trainee days. Anyways, we all know how she became big, so Irene couldn’t walk Suzy path because she’s not Suzy and other female idols replaced Irene’s popularity nowadays.

Irene was on par to become the next big superstar with sooo many CF (Soju as the big one, Hyundai, Prada, Damiani, etc.), topping brand reputation, being number 1 most desirable face in South Korea, appearing on Gallup multiple times, one of the most iconic music show MC of all time, positive acting debut but the scandal destroyed her reputation in Korea and ruined her whole momentum

Ok first why do people act like Suzys the personification of a damn Labrador. She's played plenty of chic roles and pulled them off flawlessly. Having a personality besides happy and cute is not a bad thing.

Irene's definitely done aegyo and played comically dumb characters in snl. I don't really think her being an ice princess on or off screen is a problem at all. Sk embraced a whole Lee hyori and hwasa that were straight up brutal. Hell Jennie the reigning cf queen has an ice princess image and an rbf.

There were controversies about Irene not filling out a form while other members did on a show so the staff had to fill it out and stuff so that could've left a mark. Besides that I don't think having an rbf is a negative. At. All. It was a strength that made Irene popular with I fans. I don't think it should be for any female idol either.

When rv debuted knets had less than pleasant things to say about visuals. That shits still up there. This wasn't the case with Suzy or her initial successor tzuyu who was trending all over. Tzuyu was topping Gallup, drowning in solo cfs and was the most searched visual in her debut year, and Suzy snatched national titles left and right with architecture high and at a time Suzy had like 50 cfs a year or sumn.

These days it's Jennie and hwasa who are heading to that gargantuan cf size of suzy. Especially Jennie since she's the only name the media have been bold enough to directly name along with Suzy. Hell Suzy herself is closer to Jennie and hwasa's age than she is to Irene's. So she herself ain't going nowhere.

let me just quote some facts

it's not about music ,vibes or what else .... it's just about timing and scandal

Suzy is talented, she actually give her fans half decent content, humble and bubbly. Plus Suzy is a natural beauty, Irene did lots of plastic surgery, Natural beauty is more appreciated there.

I can see threads like this being used by the usual antis and hardcore other-company stans to bash and shade idols again., and it feels like it's always the same people

First of all, stop with the vicious PS accusations, both idols were already very beautiful when they were kids and teens - antis ALWAYS and I literally mean always use the same trick, namely pick the most unflattering teen pic they can find of an idol ignoring all other child/teen pics and then say 'see? She/he did PS bc now she/he looks different' => eh, yes, she also looks different on other child/teen pics from the one you picked, antis.

As for success and popularity, the major difference is that Suzy has had an acting career right from the start and had successful, popular acting roles. Stuff like that really helps.

Another difference is that JYP pushed her hard into becoming a popular 2nd gen icon, to the detriment of the other Miss A members. JYP even admitted that Suzy significantly helped keep the company afloat in the years it wasn't doing well. But Suzy is an important reason that TWICE didn't have individual promotions and careers, to avoid another Suzy/Miss A situation.

Doesn't mean that Irene didn't get actively promoted into becoming 1 of the 3rd gen visual icons, but SM usually supports promotions and opportunities for individual careers more evenly divided among group members - which you can also see with RV members, how their individual popularity is closer to eachother and far less like a Miss A where it was 'Suzy and the girls', and you can see they have their own individual careers and projects where they're able to shine in.

That said, Irene still has some of the most individual CF's aside from Suzy among gg idols (even the most among 3rd gen idols iirc), and for several years she was the most popular gg idol and recognised and acknowledged visual in South Korea. But Suzy had a higher and longer popularity peak.

Irene was huge but she was never close to Suzy's level. You said it yourself, Irene was a top 3rd gen idol at one point but Suzy was a top celebrity period, competing with top actresses and a household name in Korea herself. Suzy past her peak in 2017 was the highest paid actress in the country and had smash hit OST's and songs like 'dream' with Baekhyun and 'pretend'.

Suzy was at the top of every part of the industry from acting, to cfs to music. She even got a national title that only ever went to top actresses and has held that title for a decade.

Irene's peak isn't comparable to how much of a phenomenon Suzy was and still is in Korea.
