I decided not to make this thread as a peace offering to Mys in these times of turbulence for their favorite group.
Let's wait and see the results of their comeback before we start doomposting.

well for me the tiffany one still can be excuse as they really just coming back from a concert in japan .. its just a snapchat emoji unlike karina came with full package on her post . but anyway im surprised theres still people remember what happened with tiffany as this controversy seems small among ifans unlike other scandal like t-ara & aoa bullying or park bom drug scandal
i mean it is even considered as “scandal” ? more like people overreacting. this time its a serious agenda related with politic. knowing shes one of the current it-girl, its definitely gonna stir bad publicity among knetz.. just like how the kardashian, or tate mcrae, supporting trump

When Kpop idols are involved? Definitely treated as a scandal, and the more popular you are, the bigger waves it tends to make, which is why I'm surprised she got through it so unscathed. But yes, this scandal is a very different animal, which is why its outcome seems comparatively murky. I could see it going either way, either thanks to or in spite of her popularity.
At the very least, she's probably about to lose some fans and gain some other fans she doesn't really want.

Even considering the literal coup attempt by the PPP, I think the Rising Sun flag is always going to be a deeper symbol of pain and historical trauma. And on Independence Day no less
What Karina did was very dumb, but I don't think we'll ever see sheer ignorance like the Tiffany situation ever again. Or the backlash that came with it.

I doubt this will affect their comeback. PPP is pretty popular in SK (almost 50% of population), there will just be more discontent among some of their female fans and obviously the hannam goddess tag might follow her for a bit. Groups like QWER openly pander to incels, so clearly there is a market there as well.

She'll be richer than me, that's for sure.

They will definitely be fine in the Western market, that's for sure.

Lol we both said that's for sure. I didn't notice until I posted haha

It's not even comparable, Tiffany's situation was waaaay worse.
It started of with a mistake which was rectified quick but knetz spread mountains of lies which spiraled out of control up the media also joining in on the lies. Soon there was calls to rape her, kill her, exile her (sometimes all 3). Worse case scenario we could've been looking at another suicide. It's purley because of Tiffany determination that she managed to have a successful career back in Korea again.
Karina at worst will probably lose fans or respect of those that hate that party but will retain fans of those that support it. After elections are over a almost everyone will forget who voted for who.

The issues is a lot of people see conservative these days and automatically assume you are a supporter of fascism and an uneducated bigot. It's usually much more nuanced than that and not all conservative leaning people are like this. I really don't think it will have a large effect overall, since her actual fans are more likely to believe her when she says their was no intent behind it. Maybe some casual fans will lose respect for her either for potentially being conservative or because they think she is just stupid.
I'm a casual fan but idc at all, doesn't really change my view of her.

Actually, it'll be worrying if Chinese fans get a hold of this scandal. The PPP are decidedly Anti-communist and Anti-China and a whole big thing that the Impeached President was ranting about as his defense was that he was trying to stop North Korean/Communist/Chinese influence over South Korea. The party and its supporters are pro-USA/Trump (lots of US flags and MAGA hats at their anti-impeachment protests).
If Chinese fandom decides that, yes, Karina was seen as supporting the Anti-China PPP (Rightly or wrongly), and knowing how Chinese fandoms can react... it won't be a fun time.
But overall, I think its a flash in a pan because its a bit of an emotionally charged time in SK right now and the evidence isn't overwhelming. Again, if she gave explicit support of PPP, like an endorsement statement, it'd be done. But theres enough plausible deniability here that it was a stupid mistake and Karina is just an airhead that is so politically unaware that she didn't realise. I think it will eventually blow over (if Chinese fans don't get a hold of it).

it's so dumb and such a non-issue

Reading things like this "incident" make me feel that koreans must be really stupid backwater people. Makeing things up because they see a number and a color on some cloth.
I mean that's what happens with every scandal. Idol does something knetz don't like so they either heavily exaggerate or make things up to create a bigger issue. It happend with Tiffany, Hara, Sulli, Bom, Taeyeon, IU etc
-
Nothing's gonna change. People always move on after a couple of days.
I barely see anyone talking about Kim Soohyun, even tho that's a way bigger problem. People already moved on from Go Minsi's bullying scandal as well.
Aespa will survive, Kpop groups and Idols survived much worse. South Korea always has another controversy they can talk about. It's The Country of Daily Controversies!😂
