not even snsd act like this ;(

  • Ngl it's weird that they do this now, right after changing their logo. The choice of a truncated asterisk for their new logo kinda steers in the opposite direction since an asterisk is basically a six-pointed star. This asterisk is like a visual representation of something incomplete. There's room for a sixth point but it's not here (anymore).

This new logo looked like the group was embracing their past, not shying away from it. But now these OT5 re-recordings send a contradictory message. I wouldn't have questioned them, had they released a few years ago. Now, with their rebranding, and their new logo especially, it confuses me a little.

do you think they are doing this on purpose for the shock factor? so people start a conversation about this?

the logo with that asterick - 5 lines tho like they're really being deliberate with this. they could've used another logo that's not asterick with 5 lines. they knew kpop fans would read into this, 5 lines = 5 members in the group.

  • Damn... I'm shocked. Soojin was such an important part for idle. She was always the one who caught my attention the most in the group and imo she was also one of their biggest stan attractor in the beginning of their career. It's sad the message they are portraying, but I guess it is what it is and I hope they stop any indirect towards Soojin then. In the end it's her side who gets more hate for ot5 stans whenever there is some conspiracy theory...

  • fans are not happy with this

I havent seen a single actual Idle fan upset with this on TW (in fact, Alex Murphy in this thread is the first and only BONAFIDE Idle fan that i've seen complain).

On TW, all i see are a bunch of fans of other groups pretending they're also Idle stans start shit up, even though none of them have bothered to spend 3 minutes streaming Soojin's flop songs even once. They're just stirring up drama to take shots at Idle (just like how Blinks, Mys and others token stan NJ to shade Hybe groups).

Idle has been 100000x more successful without Soojin lbr here. They served up multiple national hits after she was kicked out. Yet i see so much revisionist history on TW about how Soojin was so invaluable, Idle couldnt survive without her, etc etc.

  • do you they are doing it on purpose for the shock factor? so people start a conversation about this?

Yes Soyeon is not dumb, she know what she is doing.

And I think that based on the teasers, I think it's possible that she's trying to fool everyone. In the few teasers that we've had, there has been a coffin highlighted several times. I think this is where the key to the disappearance of the G or the complete asterisk lies.

  • Not a fan of this and I see this more about Cube making OT5 versions to remove royalties from Soojin. I can go on a rant about this because the group will always be 6 to me. I just feel the way they handled this is poor and should've either been done when they had their first 2 comebacks without her or not done at all. I refuse to listen to the OT5 version of their OT6 hits because it just feels wrong and you can't erase Soojin's impact

Hopefully, the group can stop these hints and fans can stop creating theories. I don't think anybody stopped for a second to think about the hurt Soojin is feeling seeing this group reach new levels without her, and forced to leave group for something she didn't do. I hope people that are loud about this actually support Soojin solo career because she has created some good songs. Hopefully she has a comeback soon because it's been almost a year and now will be a good time to have one.

  • They don't, they're just here for drama :angy6:

That's what I hate about this whole discourse because some aren't genuine. Using Soojin as a platform to hate Soyeon and the others is just wrong. I am seeing people using this to attack mainly Soyeon and that's just nasty. That's what I dislike about this all because the people that are loudest about this aren't there for Soojin or they'll use this to attack mainly Soyeon.

yeah i'm sure those people are just using soojin to attack soyeon since she is the backbone/leader of the group aka she's the one making these decisions.

They're not real fans! Real NEVIES follow I-dle since day 1 and knows that the girls always supported Soojin, they mentioned her for many years, not to mention, they performed these songs at their concerts as OT5 but no one said anything about till now.

This is just pure hypocrisy! I don't get what people expect them to do. We don't know if they asked her to come back or not, we don't know if she actually wants to come back or not, or even allowed to do that.

The funny thing is, that they actually gave a REAL closure for the fans, unlike other agencies like SME with Girls' Generation. They're not even allowed to mention Jessica, meanwhile i-dle and its members always mentioned her, and now the fact that changed the group name back to the original and released this OT5 album.

They're basically saying: "It's time to move on." and they're absolutely right! It't not like they erased Soojin. This is just a new start.

  • for someone that follow them since debut, this is just so sad. They dont reallt have to do it now, after the coffin teaser.

I just dont understand the message they're portraying now. Letting go of the past? Or embracing the past? There is no point to do the coffin part, it is disrespectful

  • I just listen to their old song new version and well........they should have use this time to prepare for their next comeback

The new version really lack of some energy

I listened to Hann especially and it sound so differently in the start to the second part of the song, after the chorus when Soojin sing, in soojin version it sound much more "sensual" and "sassy"

and i think now it's Yuqi or Shuhua who sing this part, and it feels really flat to me, it doesn't have the energy it used to have

  • Probably some agreement that if you want to our continued support and want to continue using your name (without us suing you for using a variation on it), you're going to have to re-record your old songs a condition.

  • I'm sticking to the old version, the production on the new version sounds flat out worse.

BUT, The OT6'ers have been kinda insufferable for the past few months, so if it gets them to leave the fandom I'm chill with it.

  • Soyeon was against letting Soojin go since that would have meant that Gidle, now Idle, would have a dominance of foreign members, all of them Chinese although they carry different passports.

Idle can now have Yuqi as the leader since Yuqi appears to be the best known member of the Chinese clique.

I didn't know she was still active

Rizz me up was a bop

  • I'm not even a fan and find this a bit odd. However, I have supported groups who lost members pre-debut and re-recorded their songs and officially released them once debuted. but so many years later into their career? I hope idle's fans get a statement regarding this, at least to figure out what the purpose was. A name change, sure that makes a bit of sense. but to re-record every TT up to this point seems quite excessive.

  • I have mixed feelings about this.

I saw some people say that they do this to finally move on, so that fans finally accept that Soojin is no longer a part of the group. But to me it somehow feels like they also keep alluding to it? If they really wanted the fans to move on, they wouldn't continue to include such elements and signs that some people connect with Soojin. (and just so you know, I am not one of those fans, I fully accepted the group as it is now, even if Soojin was my bias) It does feel like right now they mostly do it to shock the audience and make people talk, and it's a bit tiring.

Then we have the teaser photos - if it really is supposed to be about Soojin, I find the casket and the symbolism quite discomforting honestly. But after seeing the videos I also got an idea that if "G" stood for "girl" then maybe it means they are just shedding the younger image and fully embracing the more mature styling now. I don't understand the asterisk with one missing arm though (this actually only makes me thing of Soojin and six members becoming five, I have no other ideas).

And regarding the new releases of their title tracks, this is where they completely lost me, I don't undestand why they decided to do it right now and I think I'll continue listening to the original versions. It would have been understandable if they released them a while after Soojin's departure but 3 years after? It doesn't make sense to me.

So in general, I think that it is possible that the name change may not be connected to Soojin at all, but I really don't understand everything else. I will still check out their new song as always, but I'm just confused.

  • Or put it in another way, maybe Soyeon was thinking since without Soojin, they are no longer complete, hence throwing the "G" (symbolise 6) and the asterisk with one line missing i.e. incomplete.

But again, the timing is just odd. If this was done during I NeVer Die, i kinda get it... since they were already erasing the G back then but suddenly it came back for the next few albums...

  • It really made me feel bad.

It’s been 4 years since Soojin left and ever since Nevies have been searching for any possibility the group might be hinting on a Soojin comeback.

It was obvious that by releasing such a trailer, bringing back a freakin’ coffin, would make every single fan have a heart race and go buzzing thinking it would be Soojin’s final and long waited return.

“Oh, but people gotta understand that Idle isn’t OT6 since 4 years ago” EXACTLY! Ever since Tomboy they’ve been OT5 and thriving. I don’t understand the need to use a narrative to bring buzz only to let fans down. And yes, I do think it’s disrespectful not only to fans, but to Soojin herself. There’s no need for that!

I’m a pretty upset Nevie about the latest actions from Idle. I wasn’t expecting this low blow.

  • I don't understand why are they dropping G and rebranding? If they didn't renew with you cube I'd get it but this i don't get. Releasing now ot5 songs make sense because they aren't g-idle anymore.

People always say "why do they do this" and then we have the other side of kpop where groups didn't innovate and re-create themselves and lose steam and popularity.

Idle wanted to do a soft-reset to capture some new energy. I like the idea - I don't necessarily love everything about it (I kind of feel OT5 versions are unneccessary, but it doesn't bother me) but I feel this is a great way to keep up creatively and so a soft reinvention as you move into the next phase of your career.

Teasers have been great too. Lots to talk about - most fans are happy.
