Is anyone else losing interest in K-Pop?

  • Since the explosion of Kpop outside of East Asia companies have been trying so hard to shake the idol image and push more into making their groups more like generic pop acts and that rode the wave and now we are seeing it crash because the majority of newer groups lack identity and the genre itself has no real substance or uniqueness anymore.

It's just Korean pop groups playing essentially US pop music.

It feels like they are trying to shake everything that makes it an "idol" industry and just make it a basic, western pop industry with a bit of Korean lyrics thrown in.

It's always been a campy, cheesy genre and a sort of little isolated unique Korean entertainment quirk that blew up by almost luck and as a result, I think it lost most of its identity so a lot of fans who aren't teens are like me. They follow one group they've been with for years and bounce when that group calls it a day.

  • Got into K-Pop in 2020 and have been losing interest since 2023 now. I discovered artists that actually have creative minds and talent (write their songs themselves etc) so I grew some kind of dislike against idols

  • Since 4th gen we have way less superstars with the magic It-factor.

2nd Gen: GD, Taeyang, Taeyeon, Yoona, CL, Park Bom, Taeyceon, Nickhun, Donghae, Jiyeon, Nana, Gikwang, Lee Joon, Minho and bunch of other Superstars

3rd Gen: Jungkook, V, Jimin, Lisa, Jennie, Kai, Baekhyun, Naeyeon, Sana, Eunwoo, Irene, Jackson, Kang Daniel. With 3rd Gen it became less but still enough superstars who can influence a new Generation of fans.

With 4th we only have Karina and even she isnt bringing something new to the table what we have never seen.

Beside the downhill of the music quality we dont have Idols where even Not fans feel electrizaed.

I remember in the streets of Malaysia, Indonesia or Philippine you could see nun fans would wear Merchs and Shirts from V or Jungkook.

We dont have a Single Idol in new gen where you can say the she/He is overall bigger than Exo Kai or Bigbang Taeyang.

  • Yep after my favorite group went on hiatus I tried following their solo activities and checking out other groups for a time. But following solo activities is overwhelming and other groups couldn't catch my interest so yeah, drifting away from K-pop unless there are group activities.

  • I never really liked Kpop, I liked a few groups like BTS, Big Bang, and 2NE1. I only have a mild interest in the others. If they put out a song I like, I might listen to it on YouTube, but I follow BTS and purchase their music. The only girl group I am consistently impressed with now is Red Velvet because their vocals are so beautiful.

  • I'm definitely well passed the honeymoon phase.

I thought at first maybe in just not that into the sound of 4th gen but then I realized besides NewJeans, I quiet like alot of songs released by 4th gen groups. So I realize it's not the music that was the issue.

I think im just naturally bored with time, it's been awhile now but I think it also help when there's a community to talk about it with since everyone helps each other keep the hype up. I was most into kpop back around 2019 but the forums not the same as when I first joined and most the old users are gone. I think the forum has also been a source of stress for me in here with the constant shading of my faves so without a medium and community to share my hobby with, it's only naturally that I slowly lose interest

  • After about 12 years being into Kpop ive lost interest since the last year. My faves SNSD are inactive on indefinite hiatus, I don't know anything about any of the 4G groups, haven't listened to any songs (outside the occasional Taeyeon release), haven't watched any Idol TV shows, haven't even kept with big news stories - I don't even have a clue what happened with hybe and new jeans lol. The only recent news in aware of is Hyuna is marrying a guy associated with burning sun which is messed up, oof. Hell the last conversation I remember having on this site was last year when I was talking about how addicted I was to Zelda lol.

  • No not at all I don't think its the wrong place to ask, and I think its totally okay to be considering this. I left K-Pop for a long time after considering deleting my twitter account which focused on BlockB & Ateez, while another I had focused on UNIQ and another Cpop artist competition show.

I get what you mean to, back then in the times you mentioned I can't help but feel like a lot of the groups are the same, or at least not as refreshing debuts as to back then. During those times, I really enjoyed groups like BlockB and B.A.P because of their more hip hop image, I loved Topp Dogg to. While I loved groups like GoldenChild purely because I adored the members and thought they were similar to me in terms of tastes and music genres they enjoyed, (Apart from UNIQ, NOIR, IMFACT, BigStar, UNB, TRCNG and VAV of course).

I'm slowly growing apart from things like this site or being huge into the fandom side of things. But honestly that's why I have enjoyed it more, my bias's are coming back from military (although some like Zelo just enlisted...) and I love their solo stuff, some are promoting themselves better then their company ever did and I love their content. Although I may not comment on things anymore, I love writing and finding things helpful.

I stepped away for the longest time, I love being a quiet fan now. Maybe what you're going through is just a different version of what I did. Quitting or doing whatever you want to do is totally okay, do what you wanna do and stay healthy and well. 😊🖤
