How do you feel about SM girl groups?

i don't feel about sm girl groups

I love Red Velvet.

For the other two despite forcefully listening to SNSD and aespa I couldn't get into their music.

BUT!

I really love Aespa's aesthetics amd creative direction. I could only wish my favs got a fraction of what they get. They are really cool. Also they have Karina .

For SNSD- I only enjoy Taeyeon solo career and LOVE everything about her discography -art/direction/music/lyrics/concerts/busking; literally everything.

Idk anything about 2nd gen groups so cant comment on SNSD

Red Velvet i am definitely a fan but not a stan. Psycho is at least a top 10 for me. Irene was one of my favorite idols, but the controversy kinda soured my view on her tbh. But ive been vibing to Cosmo and a few other songs from the new EP.

Aespa...oh aespa, why cant you release music I like. Ill admit supernova is a banger but its genuinely the first song from them Ive been able to really enjoy. But Karina is literally an ethereal goddess come down to earth, so i will always check out their comebacks.

Seeing how SM treat their idols and former idols i kinda feel sorry for them

love them!!! SM make amazing gg’s.

i don’t know that much about snsd, but f(x), rv & aespa are some of the best kpop groups ever.

SM puts a lot of care into creating unique styling, aesthetics/visuals, lore and a signature musicality that is tied to the group’s brand image.

they are usually very consistent and loyal to the group’s branding and image to the point that they can be hit or miss with the gp’s reception because they take risks.

i think the only other groups outside of sm that are this successful at maintaining a solidified and signature image are newjeans, blackpink & loona.

+ i’m sure their new gg will continue that streak.

I love SM girl groups including fx, ses and the grace! Of the three mentioned in op RV is my least fav I either love or dislike their music, no middle ground aespa and ses are my favs

SM girls walk so the rest could run: SNSD and BoA. They got the prettiest girls~

I thought BoA was Japanese when I first heard of her, got alot of her songs then. My first KPOP GG was actually SNSD, but really started to follow Red Velvet when they came out. They're amazing. Now started to follow aespa too~

Out of the big 3's GGs, SM's is the one I like the most easily

Aespa is probably my fav GG ever (if they keep up with the quality they've released this and last year)

Red Velvet easily have one of the best discographies in kpop, so they're also one of my fav GGs

SNSD have some songs I like, also Taeyeon is favorite female idol ever so there's that

Neutral I would say, even if it's close to "like them". Funny thing is that I was not a huge fan of Girls' Generation during the peak of the group and the peak of 2nd generation, I had other favorites at the time took my attention. Sure I like some of their songs, but never was any top favorite group. But started to like their older songs a bit more later.

I never was an SM fan but I always liked the existence of sm ggs in Kpop. I feel like Kpop wouldn't be the same without them.

But still not a fan...

They were always my favorites until aespa .

- aespa: I sadly didn’t vibe with 90% of aespa songs before Supernova/Armageddon. And their aesthetics weren't my fave either.

I enjoyed their Dreams come true release and i loved their b sides like I'll make you cry and Welcome to my world (which is one of the best kpop song of all time really!) but that was it for the most part.

But now with their double tts which are mega bops, they blew me away, really!! Music, concept, execution everything!

Also Winter is my 3rd/4th gen bias alongside Hanni and Hyein. Im so so exited and curious about her solo debut .

- SNSD: I used to be a sowon. I was in love with SNSD. With NJs and f(x) they're still my top 3 ggs of all time.

Yet somehow, musically and conceptually wise i always prefered f(x). (a mhj shooter before i knew it )

But SNSD as a group was just more adorable, charismatic and cohesive smh. And they did have an immaculate japanese discography .

Also my ultimate gg bias is Taeyeon so there's that. (My fav korean singer is IU overall).

- f(x): f(x) has the best albums in my opinion and by far. as of today, only newjeans came close to them and i dare say surpassed them as well. these two groups are on a league of their own truly.

Their album triology-> pink tape, red light, 4 walls is a WALL OF CHINA in terms of gg albums! (NewJeans hasn't released one yet).

- Red Velvet: But RV had many many many great title tracks. Like it's crazy. From ICC/Automatic to Russian Roulette, to Red Flavor, Bad Boy, Psycho etc...

like the only f(x) tt i enjoyed that much was 4 Walls and maybe rum pum pum pum. Can you imagine??

Red Velvet were given bops after bops and now Cosmic is sooo good to. Feel my rythme was also lovely.

Yet somehow, even thaught the members were lovely and charming, the magic overall was kind of lacking??

I can’t explain... they were not as lovely and charismatic as SNSD or NewJeans, but they warent as interesting as f(x) members either...idk.

- SES: is not a group i knew well and i kind of discovered them through other SM ggs covers etc and retrospectively. Specially as of late since the 90s are becoming so trendy and NJs made me love the whole concept more. And so far they have many lovely and legendary songs such as dreams come true, be natural, just a feeling etc.

They were a very good and well balanced group .

So in conclusion SMs ggs were the best. And for me, the flow only changed once Ador debuted NJs and during the time when i was kind of over aespa altogether because i really didn’t enjoy their Savage release.

So far, rétrospectivly, i think i really really loved the MHJ touch in most of sm ggs. And in the future, her ggs are probably continue being my faves .

Love all of them. SNSD, fx, rv and aespa genuinely released some of the best music kpop can provide.

Great groups that have fun music, but with awful fanbases. (Not here, in the rest of the internet)

RV has been putting out solid interesting music, group is not stan worthy but i dont skip their songs when they come on randomly.

SNSD was overrated to me they have one super elite song, The Boyz, and another good one in I Got A Boy...the rest of their disco is completely uneventful. Also we need to normalize Yuri referring to Jo Yuri and not SNSD Yuri omg.

Aespa is truly a one hit wonder with Next Level and they have one member who literally carries the entire group in Karina. Mys are generally the most worthless fandom on Twitter though so it definitely helped sour me on Aespa overall. I only watch rando Karina clips and Next Level these days. They have a nice rock B side as well.

They have distinct identity compared to both groups within and outside their company.

I mean I don’t like Aespa but I can definitely say Aespa aren’t like red velvet nor are they like say others outside of the company. And similarly no would mistake Exo for shinee nor NCT for EXO etc

I feel this is something SM in general feels strongly about. I won’t say it’s good or bad. But maybe that something MHJ herself set precedence for in SM who knows

I like all of them. I was close to stanning Red Velvet back in 2019. Overall, all of them have solid discographies.
