well ive been paying for it since 2015 and its the platform with the most users.

That's cause marjority of active Allkpop users ate girlgroup stans and girlgroup stans are obsessed with digital metrics (If It's domestic or international depends on where their favorite groups are doing good).

Kpop is a numbers game lmao a part of the fun of being a stan is the competitive nature of it all. I honestly wouldn't overthink it if you're just enjoying the music

It's not a akp thing. It's not like only kpop stans use Spotify numbers, western artist stans use it even more to fight their rival fandoms especially the pop girl fans.

Like ppl mentioned it's the most popular streaming platform. Also its the only streaming platform that reveals all it's numbers alongside YouTube. It's a great way to measure international popularity for artists if someone is interested in all that

I have never caried about charts at all, never understand why people care about them. You like a group and a song, or you don't like them. Why care about the charts?

It's so funny that people are obsessed with quality on streaming platforms, and there's literally zero difference between the platforms. Apple and others can say, they support lossless audio, but it's still a streaming, not a CD, so technically it's not lossless. Also, with wireless ear/headphones, it's even worse!

Spotify's lossless or HIFI version will start this year, probably. Not to mention their music video section, that's already active, but not in every country. That could bring down Youtube for sure. At least for me, especially now that they're forcing their lame ads.

While I agree it's mostly girlgroup stans, I'll go one controversial step further and say it's also a very male oriented thing. Being obsessed with various metrics and numbers. There's this need to turn enjoyment of kpop into a competitive sport, that the team I support, sorry, kpop group I stan is better and more winningest than the team you support... ahem... kpop group you stan. It just so happens that the large majority of these kpop is sportsball nuffies are into girlgroups.

Now, you can't make it a game of winners and losers if you go purely by the music itself and the idols themselves. That's too subjective, it'd be like choosing the best sportsballs teams by how cool the jerseys are and how charismatic the players are... and that's just silly. No, you need metrics, stats, figure, SCORES. Thats how you judge winners in sportsballs, who has the most points and who ranks highest on ladders. So, clearly... clearly you have to do that for kpop too right. It's the only way to "prove" your team group is better than other peoples teams groups, by proving they have the better scores and stats and ladder chart placements. You can't prove it at all on the subjective parts of it at all. But you can cherry pick the numbers and stats you need to make your team look better...

Eventually, for some "fans", this obsession with the numbers side of it all becomes their primary way of consuming, and even enjoying, kpop. They rarely discuss the music, the mv's, the idols, the variety content, the looks etc... it's all numbers, numbers, numbers. Numbers and charts to gloat that you're on the winning team, used to bash fans of others teams with, as if it matters. One particularly stupid dingus on AKP even once said that straight males enjoy kpop by examining charts and sales (mind you, that was one of AKP's most blisteringly stupid members).

I follow girl groups, but I follow groups that have had the highest of highs, like BlackPink, groups that once did like Itzy, and groups that languish behind like Dreamcatcher and XG to absolute nugu stuff like Rolling Quartz and DIH.

So I've seen that stupid fierce competition mode, I've seen sad weird numbers guys get obsessed with proving which group wins because numbers are bigger. I just don't get it myself or care to engage in it. Like sometimes I'll post a positive reaction to hearing a group I like has done well in a metric and like many Insomnia I happily remember how awesome it was seeing Deamcatcher get their very first wins. But to obsess on them? Weird. Sad lonely weird guy weird.

Spotify is for global charts what 2015-2020 melon was for korean charts, the biggest platform, the one that has more impact on global charts and determine how successful your faves are and how your career will develop. Do you think if weki meki was doing lesserafim streams on spotify they would be 2 years without a comeback and close to disbandment? Or if fromis9 was getting streams on blackpink level they would be on hybe dungeon getting disrespected by their company? Be realistic for a moment, charts and success are important for your faves maintain a career that brings you music and content.

Kpop fans are just crazy and number obsessed. Keeping tabs on Spotify streams is stupid. Just listen to the music, who cares about streams.
