How do you feel about Kpop 2023?

  • To me, It's been a very bland year (until now at least) usually, even during the first quarter of the year I find many songs to love even by groups and soloists I didn't know before. But this year, It seems like nothing is worth of my attention; the only albums I've liked until now are WOODZ and Nct Dojaejung's. And the titletrack I'm listening the most this year is Ay-yo, a song that got released in February.

How do you feel about 2023 right now? Do you feel underwhelmed? Which are the albums/titles that caught your attention?

  • I really hated every single comeback. K-pop is so bad now, I kind of understand the haters. I did like Seventeen's comeback, I only listened to the title track I do not care to listen to albums when half of the songs are going to suck and maybe one song will be good. Don't have time for that anymore. NCT's subunit was fine, cute for what it was, NCT mark's new song, horrid. Get him out of the studio he SUCKS. Kep1er, who cared, Taeyang, sinister, Xdinary Hereos, who cared for them? have not seen one fan care for them, IVE....was fine, Lesserafim, sucks, evil, hate their music, hate their fans for streaming their music. Just a bad year, a bad year already. If aespa releases a bad album and bad title track then my life with be over. Hate the 4th gen. Have done nothing good for k-pop. Oh I forgot BTS's solos. Who moved except army? sick group.

  • 2022 was the best year in K-pop that I've experienced so it's a bit hard to follow that up. 2023 is pretty good so far I got no complaints. Not many big GG releases for the first 4 months but now we're getting everything at once.

BG releases seem pretty good too. I at least enjoyed many BG releases so far this year: TXT, ATEEZ, xikers.

But I guess it's a matter of taste. At least you have a Shinee comeback to look forward to this year.

kinda agree with everything you mentioned

I don't get the hype around IVE's album; most of the bsides sound empty, filler music and. The actual titletrack is ok I guess, minus the chorus that is sung in such a high key it sounds annoying

also I'm especially upset with Taeyang, he made some good titletracks in the past, he has a good voice and he is a good performer... I don't get why and how he is the one releasing filler music. It just seems like he is featuring popular idols to get good streams but that's about it.

2022 was ok, but I think it was too centered on the girls, actually every 4rth gen year has been focused on the girl groups with some minor exceptions. That's why 2016 is the fav year I have experienced

  • It's been meh.

    But I don't know if it's a me-problem (probably is lol) or if it's a K-Pop problem.

It's just been generic and the songs sounds like other already-existing songs. You mentioned Woodz for example, I really liked his album, probably my 2nd favorite of his. But most of the songs from that album sounds either generic or just like, already-existing songs...(ex. busted and teeth by 5sos)

Notice how I'm also an EXO-L so I'm gonna mention Kai's comeback. I loved 'Rover' but honestly, with latin-reggaeton being a huge genre for quite some time now. It sounded like something Bad Bunny or J.Balvin would produce/do.

  • Most of the songs released in the last 12 months have been trash. Thats why songs like Hybe Boy and Ditto can chart highly and for so long. You have companies sajaegi-ing trash, which makes it even more sad.

Years ago, songs would only rank highly for 2 to 3 weeks, because another good song would be released.

  • I think it's weird how songs are so short

Some 2023 releases around almost 4 minutes and longer:

    A.C.E | ATEEZ | DRIPPIN| MCND | NU'EST | ONF | SF9 | Stray Kids | TFN

  • I am a GirlGroup Stan and so far I feel it has been an above average Year which only feels disappointing because last year was my Favourite ever year in Kpop so it is a hard act to follow

But it is still fairly early in the Year

  • Some 2023 releases around almost 4 minutes and longer:

True it just feels like 3:30-4:30 was the norm back in the day and a song under 3 minutes was unheard of. Now everything is roughly 3:00 and sometimes even less.
