Did many kpop fans move to reddit as this forum looking almost dead now?

  • It's just gg stans leaving here with few bg groups stans. Positive thread will flop and same users will post a trolling thread to get few pages interaction from users.

The question is why? Did many left to reddit because it's less problematic? I mean they have moderator to delete controversial post and if many reported it. They have upvote system where users with low karma cannot post or commenting on anything. Did these make fans move there as it's less toxic?

I mean, me myself did move to reddit too and not active here for few years. Personally for me, both as just as toxic but ngl, there's a lot of time I really appreciate the post control in reddit.

  • I could just copy and paste this from the same thread a week ago. With the NewJeans and upcoming Aug/Sept cbs, it’s been busier than it has been.

    Other highlights:

    - it’s the summer when this forum is slower

    - forums are a dying format

    - still busier than most of the other Kpop forums

    - the talk is always about who currently has cbs. Rn, it’s a lot of gg.

    - people talk in their guilds to avoid the drama

    - too much moderation/not enough moderation, depending on who you’re asking

  • There’s a shit ton of carats in Reddit, say one negative thing they downvote your to oblivion

It's not about the users behavior but how actually the forum works for handling toxic environment. What I give about carats is just example, it's not about them.

  • I don’t know why people act reddit is shit when there’s more problematic people here than than Reddit. I don’t go to the kpop sections everyday, but mods are doing their best to delete negative comments. People actually make unpopular opinions and talk about different groups and have more interesting discussions than AKP. Like we get spammed by the same achievements for a whole week instead of making a mega thread.

  • We just lose activity when we ban popular users like Teshubs_Irene and Drew_B and Dreamer

People complain but numbers don't lie. The rest of the forum are too scared to get banned so they don't post much opinions only inside of anon.

Keeping it clean makes it boring. That's why.

But r/kpop and each groups subreddit is significantly more sanitised than akp with more stricter moderation and ways to weed out trolls with tools like downvotes, hiding posts, sort by votes etc and yet it’s stull a popular place to visit.

I think it’s more a case of in a more controlled environment fans feel they’re better able to express themselves or fan(boy/girl) over their faves without having fights so it more appealing to use. I’ve seen people say akp bullied Aespa fans out the sight and if that is the case then of course they would move on to forums/sites that won’t bully them out or prevents that sort of thing form occurring.

Or it could be because Reddit as a whole is one of the biggest sites in the world so it’s easier to find.

Yup, the topics there are actual more various with quite good discussion with less annoying troll. That's one of the reasons why I like it, and people not spamming same thing over and over again.

  • Honestly, having all these negative/trollish threads may bring a lot of short term activity, but I think long term the forum would benefit from cultivating a more positive culture.

It's the same in literally every other thing you do, work, school etc. Positive culture will always prevail long term. People are just more willing to stick around and engage.

A potential solution here is to reward positive behaviour instead of negative behaviour. Perhaps adjusting the akorn system. Right now it rewards poor behaviour because the easiest way to akorn farm is by trolling. The more triggered people get, the more they reply, the more akorns they get.

Instead, perhaps look at a system where positive posts get bonus akorns. Maybe an upvote system, where you reach certain thresholds and get bonus akorns, downvotes will lose you akorns. You could potentially just use the reaction emotes to do this.

Or rather than thread of the month going to a bait thread, make it a selection of positive threads and allow everyone to vote on it.

Reward consistently positive posters with bonus akorns or custom badges or some other aesthetic. I read somewhere that you can disable people's aesthetics as well, so maybe a warning point system for negativity and then disabling parts of people's aesthetics.

Anyway, just some random suggestions. I'm sure others will have plenty of great ideas on how to bring a little more positivity to the place.

  • The problem is the majority of people don't like troll threads, especially ones that target groups they like. They just feel the need to defend them which is why it gets so much activity (+ other trolls or antis joining in). These threads gain a ton of activity but you don't see it spread to other parts of the forum/last long-term because it's not actually building a community people enjoy. It's a spurt in activity that doesn't serve to benefit the forum long-term.

One major issue I believe is that this forum is known for trolling, it doesn't have the best reputation with the rest of the kpop community and its not just due to being linked with the news side. So normal fans already left/will avoid it due to the association with trolling while trolls started to leave as they became more regulated. Unfortunately, the older days allowing so much trolling has probably made it so this forum can't perform well with positivity as users who would be drawn to those thread probably already left.

Like someone else mentioned, kpop reddit is way more monitored and sanitized but is still more active. There can be both "bland" appreciation threads and interesting conversation topics that aren't just hate/trolling. The moderation from the beginning allowed the forum to build a strong positive (for kpop standards) userbase of diverse fandoms that will engage with different topics.

Rather than focusing on building short-term negative engagement with troll threads, this forum should focus on fixing its reputation and rebuilding a strong community that want to interact with other fandoms/threads instead of hiding away in their guilds and only engaging with trolls threads to defend their groups.

  • Touché

  • What are they called? Have never been in reddit

You mean the kpop sub Reddit?

    It's https://www.reddit.com/r/kpop/

You can find other groups' sub Reddits if you know the name of their sub Reddit and replace the part after reddit.com/r/xxxxx eg SNSD is https://www.reddit.com/r/SNSD

Same applies for almost anything. Discussions about video games is r/games, movies is r/movies etc. Find what you're interested and go from there.

  • This always happens in the summer. Many people are on summer vacation.
