HEY ,I am a newbie to kpop got into it through bts not an army though ,is a jungkook,rose,jaehyun,wonyoung......stan.I was intrigued by the business side of kpop and found one thing veryintresting,Nct in 2019 did sales similar to that of stray kidz and txt but by 2020 they were on the same level as svt and now in 2021 they surpassed them ,like is this because a lot of exols became nctzens or any other reasons....

is this because a lot of exols became nctzens
And yet NCT sells better than EXO ever did so please make it make sense
To answer your question seriously, many people and i mean MANY got into NCT in 2020 because
a- Kick It was addictive and got many people curious and interested into checking them out
b- Neo Zone (Kick It's album) was a great album so many of those who were initially curious because of Kick It stuck around for the music
c- They followed up with Make A Wish (the whole Resonance album really) and that sealed the deal.
d- They benifited a lot from the worldwide confinement in 2020. Many people had to spend extended periods of time at home all year long and NCT was and still is a monster of content. All you need is a little bit of curiosity and BAM, i find it very hard to imagine people not at least becoming casual fans of NCT after checking out the kind of content they put out regularly, music related or otherwise.
e- with concerts being on-hold, fans have nothing to spend money on to support their faves aside from buying albums and merch
f- this is the natural and logical outcome of NCT working hard, consistently releasing quality music and being the best boy group for more than half a decade.

kick it is so dope

it's a new account... wouldn't be surprised if someone created it on a whim to stir trouble.
But, I rather keep "good faith" unless proven otherwise.

Weren't...they always popular? Like sure, when they debuted they weren't as popular but I wouldn't say one release made a whole group famous (especially when the whole group doesn't sing during the release).
I think their music and concept is what made nct well known. Sure, many people don't know all the members, but they know nct dream when they see them together, and 127, and wayv etc etc.

if you compare NCT's album sales before and after 2020, they grew exponentially whether as a while brand or as separate units.

NCT grew steadily and gain new fans as the year passed. Not sure why you used “overnight”. I don’t like NCT’s music but I admire the idols because of their obvious passion and hard work for their work. I think they deserve the success. Maybe there’s crossovers from Exo’s stans (SM stans maybe - sorry just have to say that. It’s my favourite word lol), but there’s a lot more fans gained from NCT’s own merit.
-
I guess there are many things that lead to it but it’s like magic for me lol. I can’t explain exactly why I suddenly paid attention to them in 2020 when I have been a kpop fan since 2008 and always ignored the new SM group even when I was a legit fan of all SM acts from sj to exo. Whatever the reason is I am glad because they’re the best thing in Kpop

nct were never on the same level as TXT or skz though lmaooo they were always on a bigger side...
In 2018 they were selling 400K with empathy when TXT didn't even debut. SVT werent selling that amazing that time either until the start of 2019.
Its the big influx of overall sales in koop in general in the last couple of years which made this happen. And NCT gained way mor fans after the empathy era (1) and then after kick it(2) and finally resonance increased them even more (3)
Comparing how nct catched up to TXT and skz does not make sense cause they never actually did that..it was just txt and skz debuted around a era where physical sales were already getting bigger in kpop for general. They have always sold less than NCT.
As for svt, they play almost on the same ground for NCT. You can ask the same question for them too..svt was selling around 300K back in 2018 as much as I remember and now they are selling 2M albums too

empathy did have a lot sales in 2020 did they sell 400k in 2018 alone i don't think so .Regular Irregular had like 330 k and txt did sell near 245 k . one of stray kidz album too did swll near 300 k in 2019. as far as svt is concerned they first did 100 then 200 and so on to 1M with Hengare .But NCT was insane Neo Zone did 1 M thats straight from 330 .

Any Stray Kids album sold near 300k in 2019
Levanter sold 182k, Miroh sold 169k and Yellow Wood 156k, while We Boom was selling 327k, this is like almost the double of skz' best selling album

and you forgot the part where there were 2 years between Regular and Neo Zone and how the latter only crossed the 1M mark a year later.
Anyway, let's just say NCT grew at a faster rate than the others

This right here was a big factor imo. I, for one, was a casual fan of their music for several months and last spring while stuck at home, after watching several funny kpop moment videos on YouTube, I decided to check out a couple of their bonus videos. I found them to be pretty funny guys so I set out to learn about each subunit and how the group works overall. About the time I was really done diving into all of their music, they announced the NCT 2020 project which was so much fun to experience. I feel like based on a lot of people's stories about how they found NCT over the last 2ish years has been similar.
Also NCT 127's only 2019 release, We Are Superhuman, is not a great metric to judge their popularity because it was was subject to boycott by many kfans at the time because they were pissed that they weren't doing a lot of promotions in Korea for that album and were instead focusing on the US market where they were touring at the time.

Lol this isn’t 2016
SKZ TXT EN- are all million sellers or close to million sellers. The Boyz sell almost 700k. And you have a debut GG like aespa selling nearly 600k. GOT7 never reached this league and disband long before that.
Million is the new 500k.

GOT7 hasn't disbanded
and nct is 3rd gen comparing them to txt and stray kids and even enhypen who are 4th gen makes no sense.
NCT has unique concepts, they have a unique thing going on with the various units, their music has a vast variety for everyone's tastes, the visuals are on par, the talent is on par, their personalities are often hilarious. I like the fact that members come from various places.
there's more to NCT than their music and sales.
-
Lol no all those groups doubled or more than doubled their sales. It’s actually 17 who is the odd man out and did not double their sales.

I think u r not getting what i mean

overnight? it took a while and they were always getting slowly and slowly more popular (SLOWLY).. Kick It era was when they actually started getting big a bit faster.. i think SM did a good job with them by never giving up even tho at times everybody were saying NCT is a flop and SM should ditch them and their concept (stuff like they are the reason SM is failing ), but SM never gave up and stuck with NCT continuously trying new stuff to make them bigger
