Teddy’s music is appealing. Both BP and Somi happen to have him producing for them.

Maybe a few of her casual listeners but other than that no. Her stans won't stan her if they didn't like her music. Also Somi is going viral on tiktok all on her own. Somi was already a big name before she even joined The Black Label.

I mean their music is really sort of the same, her new song and mv has the similar aesthetic of rose's solo work (yes I know I spelt her name wrong, no I'm not fixing it) a lot of somi fans are blackpink fans, because of their similarity, like barely any music, same music format, I think a lot of blinks are interested in her.

A lot of other yg artists aren't doing well on the charts, so no. I think that international fans (including me) doesn't know the power that Somi holds. Her other songs didn't chart so well, but the fact that they even charted within top40 shows that gp give listen to her songs.

Somi is popular in her own right. She’s also promoting the heck out of this song. More than what she did for WYWF

In Korea, I don’t think so. Somi was popular on her own before joining The Black Label. And even if her music is similar to Blackpink, no one thinks it’s because of Blackpink. It’s Teddy’s sound, similar to 2ne1, BP and even Sunmi’s Gashina. It’s that Teddy’s signature way of composing and producing songs I guess.

But maybe for international fans, it’s logical that some people got to know of Somi via BP’s association.

It seems like a natural growth. Maybe BP helped a bit which isn't a bad thing per se, but she seems pretty active at promoting herself in social media. Hard to tell unless you make a commercial questionnaire and ask the fans.

Not really. It's more so IOI fame still following her and those who genuinely like her music.

I think majority of kpop fans are multis. There will be a lot of overlap in fans.

I stan both Somi and BP but I wouldn't say I stan Somi because of BP. The styles the same. If anything, we really stan Teddy.

Somi has had a solid fanbase for half a decade now, all her hiatuses has made ppl forget somehow

somi was extremely popular even before joining TBL but it is true she lost some jyp stans and gained some yg stans with the move but overall shes popular for herself alone

Ahhh thanks, although I kinda don't get it lol. There are some producers who produce for many different kpop groups/soloists (for example Kenzie who works with alot of SM acts) but to me that doesn't necessarily mean that if you're a fan of one SM group you're a fan of them all just because Kenzie works with them. Idk in my head I never linked Somi and BP together so reading this thread was kinda weird

Companies that work with multiple producers are a bit different than this situation since the overlap isn’t as prominent. But yeah often there is a common thread and that’s why there are SM stans who enjoy SM music in general.

Isn't only having the same producer (like SM groups and loona), it's known bp members often go to TBL and Teddy is like a brother for them, same for Somi. And they all are close, some of them visited Somi during her mv filming, her YouTube show and were seen hanging out together + they promote each other on social media a lot, like Jennie commenting on Somi's comeback live, so some blinks consider her BP "little sister".

Yes, I see Blinks literally started praising Somi when BP had interactions with her, but that's just a small thing.

She used to be in JYP, but we can't say TWICE helped her with her popularity. JYPE, TheBlackLabel, IOI and herself established her career.

I think some people just want to fit Somi's success into the narrative that it is fueled by Blinks. But the fact is, Somi was voted as the centre of P101 and participated in Sixteen. She was already popular. Not sure why Blackpink is being brought into the picture, not like they collaborated. They just had some interactions here and there

Edit: And never discount the major factor that Dumb Dumb is a BOP. As opposed to many AKP that wrote it off as flop on its initial release, the song is really catchy and many are eventually hooked up to the melody. The song went semi viral on youtube and tiktok. I've seen many comments about how catchy the song is

Somi's popularity is mostly due to IOI and Produce. People forgot that they were a big deal back then.

In Korea Somi was really popular because of IOI but her first 2 songs didn't do that well. DD sounds and looks more like YG style than the other two so this might be a reason why more people like it. But I don't think it's because of BP.

Internationally though, it's true that more Blinks started looking her after she joined the BL and paid more attention to her.

Maybe the fact that half the mv and the styling were a lot like Rose's and with BP absent helped her somewhat.

Nope, it has more to do with TBL and the image that they have built for her. The long term hiatuses, only one song per year and the brand deals she gets are too similar to the way BP are promoted so she naturally gets attention from Blinks. And now, she is doing well on charts it's expected Blinks will flock to hype her but no, Somi's popularity is due to IOI/TBL more than BP.
