What's your opinion on NewJeans as a group and individually?

  • They came as the much anticipated Min Heejin's GG. When HYBE recruited MHJ it was considered a great coup in the industry.

I liked the way they debuted, no fanfare, no dragged out teasing etc., just Bam.. "Attention", and they definitely caught the attention, with the long unseen theme/style, which was refreshing after all that surfeit of "I don't care plasticky" girls. I obviously don't know all GGs, but in recent times only NJ and Billlie stood out different for me in terms of concepts.

And they had a fantastic 2 years, breaking records which were piled up by veterans over many years. On Korean charts, they were ranking alongside Bigbang, IU and BTS, within 2 years of debut.. that is stupendous.

I liked few of their songs, not all. "Hurt" probably is the one I liked the most.

Unless idols show considerable creative input, I prefer to look at the producers/creatives, I would credit Pdogg/BSH for BTS, more than the members, Teddy for BP and so on, and

New Jeans for me is Min HeeJeans

Individually, it is the behaviour during the disputes that made the members stand out.

Hanni of course more so than others. She also stood out with Aoi Sangosho and on Lee Mujin.

IU of course highlighted Hyein on Palette and then the feature on Shh.

Others I didn't see much individuality. But again I don't seriously follow all activities and news.

It is sad that corporate politics spoiled what could have been a great group with many years of success.

Even if they survive in some form, will they achieve that potential without MHJ or without ADOR-HYBE?

    Future will tell.

  • I like most of their songs but I don't like their dance. But since I rarely watch performance, it doesn't matter

I don't follow them out of music so I can't say much about them individually but I saw that one clip of Hani in court(?) and I think that she is so mature. The other girls seem like good kids

  • They're songs are okay. I think "Ditto" is their stand out song, but many of their songs kind of blend together, and I don't really go back to listen to any of them. I also liked "Zero," but silly ad commercial songs always have a place in my heart.

I don't really have any opinions on the group members.

  • Good/strong identity and musical integrity. Even if not all their songs are to my taste, it's still very clearly NewJeans, which I respect. This is a lot more important than maybe many think, especially in a fast-moving industry like kpop. And when they do their style well, they do it REALLY well.

OMG and New Jeans (should've been longer..) are some of the best song from 4th gen GGs. Hype Boy, Attention, Supernatural and ETA are also great.

Very pleasant and soothing voices/tones. Goes well together with their songs.

They're cute girls and my heart hurts a bit for them for what they're going through. I hope they come out of this together and continue to release music. I applaud Hanni as she's been especially brave.

Also, the way they debuted was refreshing!

  • Positive things

They are best dance oriented 4th gen gg

    They are good performers

    They have strong identity

Brave girls for standing up against a conglomerate

    Negative opinions

Most of their discography consist of snooze fest songs! Also I don’t like how they incorporate ads excessively into their mvs, which takes away from the artistry! Their songs are exactly what TikTok songs look like, also they are extremely short! Their singing is really average! Many of their songs sound the same hence you get bored really quickly! Also I still can’t differentiate the girls except Hanni and Danielle because of mhj’s “natural” looks with same hairstyle and colour! That’s why they will be strong as a group but not as an individual artist!

  • They do not have a single bad song imo but I do find some of them underwhelming. I really like OMG (top 10 kpop song), Hurt, Ditto, NewJeans, Bubblegum, and Gods. Supernatural is pretty good too.

I've never seen a performance from them that I haven't enjoyed so they also have that going for them, styling is also always on point. Idk a whole lot about their live vocals but I've enjoyed some of the covers from Danielle and Hanni's cover this year was truly iconic. They are among the most visually appealing groups as well.

Another thing is that they at times feel like one of the most genuine groups. I don't watch a whole lot of their content but I do follow them at least a little outside of their music and that's kind of the vibe I get, even prior to this drama. Even though they are technically a big4 group under HYBE, they feel more like a group that's just from the small label Ador. Even before the drama they just seem like a group that operates more freely than other big4 groups. Like there's really no other groups I could imagine having a Twitch streamer invited to hang out with them for the night. Maybe the more hardcore bunnys can attest to this.

Overall I've always really liked the group and I was excited to see them dominate the world.

  • Pre-hybe case:

-privileges idols who got famous just by being young and beautiful

-a bit afraid they would replace IU cause they swept the melon chart with all debut songs

-found the songs are good, remind me a lot about 90s but avoid listening to cookies because of rumour

-enjoy the dance, found it's different from other kpop dance

-not really understand the hype of NJ until watched new jeans song music show, and I thought they were really cool during that show (especially haerin)

-infatuated with Ditto and OMG during single inferno 2 era (unofficial tiktok sounds for all single infernos edit)

    Post-hybe case:

-Start to curious with their popularity after MHj press con

-Found the girls not only popular but seems like fun gangs

    - getting proud day by day standing them (not afraid to support mhj despite backlash, always looking happy on stage despite the drama, making LIVE and called Hybe BS, hanni went to NA despite being ridiculed, hanni fought for the bully CEO and put her on place)

-star listening to cookies after learn about the meaning

My pov about each member :

    - minji : cool girl, tomboy and leader type

    - hani : look childish but can be firm when needed, passionate about music

    - haerin : smart smart smart

    - hyein : funny, blunt, and seems like loved by every member

    - Danielle : sweet person, word of affirmation love language , and girly type

  • Well I think everyone know I think their songs is super boring and I really don't like the kind of slow soft music they do, even if some songs have some good part in them, in general just too boring.

When it comes to the group I feel they have not really been tested when it comes to their vocal skills and what I have heard, I'm not that impressed. But that is also pretty common for new groups, take awhile to get a bit more power and skills in their singing so I will wait and see if they get some more difficult songs to performe and how they manage.

They seems to have decent dancing skills at least and their visuals are pretty good.

I have no opition about the indivudal members because I have not spent any time to know who is who in this group and can't really see anyony stand out.

If I compared to their popularity I think they are overrated and a lot is a hype. But it's not impossible they will move on from their former lolita kind of concept to a more mature concept with better songs that will make me change my mind. My feeling is that they will have a bit different concept now on.

  • Their debut was great - really tapped into nostalgic feelings for me and so I played it a lot. They were/are super young so I have no real interest in learning about them to any deep level. I have liked a couple of songs since, but I have no heard anything much that caught my attention like their debut did. I would have been interested to see how they developed.

  • You still can. They won't be going anywhere.

I am standing back and observing from a safe difference!

I worded that wrongly though - I simply meant their trajectory has changed from original plans. I would have been interested to see how they developed without all the myriad fuck-ups and drama which could/should have been avoided.

Still interested to see what happens, and hope things work out for the best.

  • they are beyond perfect. great star factor, personalities, insane production and art direction, beautiful and touching voices. special synergy.

the only thing i wish they could improve would be their vocal abilities. specially hyein. i wish she had better pitch and control because her voice color is just exeptional. too good to not train it more.

hanni too, i wish she would take some vocal leçons and get rid of her nasaly slips and just expand her range.

but it's all a question of vocal training really. and i think not giving them that on a more professional level was an artistic choice from mhj. they want them to literally sound like young teenagers and not overly polished professionals.

still, i would have been quite happy if a vocalist and voice like winter or jo yuri debuted with them.

but they're still amazing as of now, they are young and have so much time to grow and improve!

  • I can't take them seriously anymore as a group because they're so obsessed with MHJ and it's going to ruin their own career. MHJ is no different than the big CEOs at HYBE, she is greedy and a liar and everything she did to newjeans was for herself and not them. I wish the girls would separate themselves from her and stop doing everything she says. I like their older releases more than their newer ones, and I think How Sweet and supernatural are okay songs but they are nowhere near as good as Ditto, hype boy, attention etc. Individually I like them all and I want them to get out of HYBE and away from MHJ.

  • Meh they're okay.

    Their vocals are mid.

    Dance is basically organized freestyle.

    Nothing really unique about them.

I wish they would've debuted without HYEIN (because she was 14 at the time).

They only have two good songs: Right Now (the JP version) and Hype Boy.

But I shouldn't really be talking cuz I stan groups for weird reasons.

  • :meme-dead-horse:

  • Boring group honestly. I hate how they sing in the most monotonous way possible.

That being said, I appreciate their originality and how well curated their discography and image is and totally understand their appeal. If I liked their music more and didn't found their singing bland I would like the group more. Before their debut I anticipated this gg a lot as I thought Min HeeJin x Hybe would be a combo for the history books lol.

I was disappointed by their boring, safe music, even though I listen to some of it occasionally, but everything else seemed right. I still believe they were hardcarried by hype, though.

Individually, I like the members. Haerin is gorgeous and so is Danielle. Hanni and Minji are adorable. Hyein is a bit boring to me ngl. She always have the same expression, but she's stunning.

Imo they're a mix of cool image, and safe and boring sound. It's like when you get too much candy and get sick just looking at it after a while.

narcissistic, my god i love it

  • Pros

    - One of the idol group with the best

    discography

    - Personally there is none of their songs that i dont like it. All of them is my type.

NJ and IVE playlists are always in my top playlist

(And dont forget i am a Ditto and Hurt hard lover <3)

    - cute members. Honestly they made people smile when sees them

    - always interesting to watch in stage

    Contra

    - this all HYBE - MHJ things....i hope this problems to be over soon so we and the girls can move on and continue their careers.

  • I liked them and was optimistic about stanning them for their music. It really was great. I own Get Up, partially because of the power puff version. At this moment in time I am no longer a fan but I obviously do follow the drama. They are still talented kids, but due to the unbreakable bond they have with mistress satan… I just can’t support.

Individually Minji was number one! Such a bright and naturally fun idol. Hanni is also kinda neat but imo, totally gave off mean girl vibes during the National Assembly. It was unbecoming. Still talented kids that had good music. Hate it turned out like this but good luck to them!

  • ditto mv made my bawl my eyes out like fr

their aesthetic isn't usually my style, it's too casual and laid back, not flashy or "directioned" enough

they all sound pretty similar if u ask me, i can tell them apart sometimes but no most of the time

ive heard all their songs and i dont love any of them (key word: love)

hurt and cookie are good tho

    i cant stand eta

    hyeins my fav

  • As a group:

One of my fav newer groups, musically. The first group with no trash song (to me). But lately their music became stale, still enjoyable but lacking freshness.

Pleasant and soothing voices, but lacking power and individuality

    No visual hole

  • Love Newjeans! They’re so fresh and so clean :p I appreciate their identity and the members are so refreshing! I’ll admit I’m only interested in Hanni, Minji and Haerin though:!: I feel like the others don’t stand out as much and aren’t attention grabbing. I think Hanni is the main star imo and brings something refreshing into NJ.

Talent wise I think they’re at the standard kpop group level and are at least able to sing their own songs on encore stages without sounding bad. I think Hanni’s an amazing singer but she doesn’t get the chance to vocally shine as NJ songs aren’t vocally demanding. The others are average to below average. I think performance wise they’re cute and always energetic not sure who the main dancers or rappers are though as they all on the same level imo.

These girls are very brave and icons from music to legal action :!: i think in a way NJ are the perfect example of this new gen, not afraid to speak up and will always protect/ choose themselves regardless of the job/ money! Excited to see their next steps :borahae:
