Actually it's because other bands like CN Blue were on Killing Voice and they only sang, so MyDays were all pleasantly surprised to see that Day6 are going to play their instruments as well

I mean, it's called Killing Voice. Most of them can play on instruments, but they won't bring any, because it's not necessary. I don't know much about the others who appeared on the show, but I know that Mamamoo came after a 4 hour long concert and Hwasa was very sick. Idols usually don't use instruments, even tho they did a concert like that once, I think it was their 4season F/W concert.
I'm pretty sure, Day 6 wanted to do something different, because no one ever did the same on the show, and Dingo would never ask something like this. I'm not even sure if they liked this idea, because it's more work for them.🤣
