Do you think having powerhouse vocalist(s) in a kpop group a must?

no its not necessary

I mean unless the songs will focus on it and highlight like for example Mamamoo songs, talented vocals will be buried and shown only in album ballads that even fans sometimes ignore

So yeah its not necessarily, tho having a stable vocal that can hold the tone is what I consider important,

Its not..also a lot of big artists in the west that are praised for their vocals are objectively not that good. But anyway, you dont need vocal powerhouses for a pop song and especially not in a kpop group. But if people prefer a vocal based group then so be it, i'm sure there are options for them.

Strong vocals is pretty far down the list of things that determine success. It certainly doesn't hurt but its for sure not necessary.

Having a great vocalist in the group is a plus but it's not necessary. In general when in comes to pop music you don't have to be a super amazing vocalist, as long as you can sing decently, have catchy or interesting songs and are able to gain the attention of the public. Also in kpop a lot of things other than musical talent need to be taken in consideration: dance,looks etc

Why 4th gen when this was revolutionized by 3rd gen and has been the case in the kpop for like half a decade already the biggest kpop groups BTS bp Twice don’t have any powerhouse vocalist…when that’s the case why would that encourage the future gens to focus on that.

No you don’t need a great vocalist to have hits. In Korea or internationally. But it’s been the case for a while now.

BTS BP Twice proved that being great vocalists alone is not enough. You need great vocals, great performers, great stage presence, great everything. Great vocalists with pretty faces are just not enough now.

GOT having all main vocalists of SM combined doesnt automatically make their songs more soothing to listen to than Red velvet's or SNSD's

It's obviously not a must for success considering the top three main groups of today

It's hard to say what factors matter to what extent but if I had to pick 1 single thing that matters the most it's easily this. Things like visuals and dance / stage presence matter far more than vocal skills in this day and age. Even what company you debut from matters more than vocal skills This is the sad reality.

SSR tier visual is a must, the rest is beneficial but not mandatory

No especially right now.. singing good isn't a requirement anymore cause people really only focus on the music and the visuals

GOT has Wendy and Taeyeon as main vocals that’s it(maybe also BOA but she’s a soloist and I don’t really know where she’s stands in the hierarchy lol) . What do you mean all of them.

No, at least not for a years now. The most popular groups these days like BP Twice BTS don’t (don’t know much about 4G so can’t comment) don’t have power or great vocalists so it’s not required.

Hasn't really been a requirement ever. Some top groups have great vocal lines but they're more the exception than the rule

I'm curious to hear some examples. I feel like Cherry Bullet was guilty of #1 in their latest comeback. It was cool to watch them do live vocals while dancing but the shouty chorus became hard to listen to quite fast and song was short lived for me.

It’s not necessary and the GP has certainly proven many times that it’s not necessary. Some of the most popular groups don’t have powerhouse vocalists.

For me, personally, it’s very necessary. I always prefer music that has it and it’s the powerhouse vocals that drew me to Kpop in the first place. It’s my preference in any genre. I suppose this is why I’m a SM stan because the company’s groups are built on always having powerhouse vocals and the song structures are very concerned with harmonies and vocal power and capabilities, esp in the quintessential SM bridge. (I’ve tried to argue I’m not a SM stan but the contents of my Spotify don’t lie hahaha. The company is often a shitshow and I don’t like every group but the bulk of my fave vocalists, groups and songs come from the company.)

I do like some songs that don’t have powerhouse vocals but the bulk of my library is definitely in that lane (or at least a unique and rich voice if not powerhouse.)

Winter is a main vocalist too right? Seulgi is as good as any other main vocalists right? BoA pretty much start her career at the age of 13 or something, shouldnt she be pretty good at singing. They should have superior music.
