Kpop Grading System ONLY for Korea.

  • How about this,

Note: While there can be many requirements to define a hit, at the minimum charting in Top 20 of the Circle Digital Charts is needed.

    -----------------------------

Tier S: Acts which in the past and still are consistently delivering hits, with each comeback doing as well or better than the previous.

Tier A: Acts whose recent 2 comebacks have been hits or debuts have been hits, but not so in the past, which have hits & misses..

Tier B: Acts which have hits in the past, but whose most recent 2 comebacks have not been a hit

Tier C: Acts which have some fame of any sort and any name recognition, viral moments etc., Songs which charted in Top 100.

Tier D: Acts which have little to no recognition, no song in the Top 100.

    Thoughts?

  • People will vote their favs as S tier as most of these are or can be taken as subjective

They can, if they meet the criteria,

Consistently delivering TTs/Singles which chart in the Top 20 of digital and each comeback doing better than the previous.

    Not at all subjective.

  • They can, if they meet the criteria,

Consistently delivering TTs/Singles which chart in the Top 20 of digital and each comeback doing better than the previous.

    Not at all subjective.

So you need to change all of your tiers to numerical values so there is just fact and not subjective.

Dreamcatcher fit S and A tier subjectively but if you add high digital they fall to D tier.

"We're always with InSomnia, we can spend more time, beyond limits together!"

  • So you need to change all of your tiers to numerical values so there is just fact and not subjective.

Dreamcatcher fit S and A tier subjectively but if you add high digital they fall to D tier.

I only used Digitals. But make your case,

Has DC been consistently charting in Top 20 of Digitals since they first hit Top 20/Debut and has their every release been matching or bettering their previous on the Digital chart?

If so, then they are S Tier.

All S Tiers are automatically A tiers.. All As B and so on..

You could make an objection that, it is not enough to consider only digitals. But otherwise, I am not sure how the ranking fails.

  • im only going by what is typed up top

Tier S: Acts which in the past and still are consistently delivering hits, with each comeback doing as well or better than the previous.

Delivering hits, well yeah I think so (subjective) doing better then previous (yeah their numbers every cb have grown and not plateaued)

I would just work the working so your note is embedded in every tier

Tier S: Acts which in the past and still are consistently delivering top 20 (Circle / Gaon) hits, with each comeback doing as well or better than the previous.

Tier A: Acts whose recent 2 comebacks have been top 50 (Circle / Gaon) or debuts have been top 50 (Circle / Gaon), but not so in the past, which have hits & misses..

I get i'm being an ass over wording and don't want to come across as being argumentative but just how i see it

"We're always with InSomnia, we can spend more time, beyond limits together!"

  • I'm curious, why is only digital charting in Korea being considered? Shouldn't we take a more holistic approach?

Holistic approach can also be done, but you know the analysis would be far more complex and lead to far more distribution.

Secondly, physicals are unnatural skew IMO, fans buy it, but given the technological State, it is unfeasible to think that people actually listen to any physical medium.

It is purely swag and there is no UL concept either. Hence it gives incorrect picture.

  • I feel like if we were really trying to compare, it would be helpful to also consider the competitive landscape.

I suppose that’s too granular, but it’s a more impressive feat to be #3 in a landscape with Itzy, BP and aespa than to be #3 when no major group has come back in the past month.

  • How about

    Tier S - My faves

    Tier A - Your Faves

    Tier F - Everyone else

    ;-):-P

  • In all seriousness, My tier S is not for just Korean charts, but also international.

So only BTS and BP qualify, seventeen may soon.

I suppose that’s too granular, but it’s a more impressive feat to be #3 in a landscape with Itzy, BP and aespa than to be #3 when no major group has come back in the past month.

The grading to an extent neutralizes that factor.

S tier needs to be on an incremental curve over multiple comebacks, since they first hit top 20.

So it is not just one come back.

Adding other factors, will increase the complexity, making the scale unwieldy.

These are just broad categories. 'Tiers' and not ranks.

You could use those kind of factors for specific ranking.

  • In all seriousness, My tier S is not for just Korean charts, but also international.

I am not a big fan of international .. Because then the candidates should all international acts, not just K-pop acts.

What's the point of picking only K-pop acts and ranking them internationally.

It is like using Olympic performance to decide who is best in the nation, ignoring the competitors from other nations.

The only thing that will confirm is the the Olympic winner is also the nation's winner. Which may not be the case.

But not importantly skew the assessment of other international and national acts.

If doing international, do considering all international acts.

If doing local, then international perfomance is a non factor.

  • Because there have been songs by BTS that do not hit number #1 in Korea, but top the global charts in Spotify, apple, ect.

So that should put them above Tier A.

Tier S should be reserved for the very best, so maybe only one or two Boy groups and Girl groups.

By international I mean global numbers, not my fave hit #1 in the Panama Itunes chart. But if a group is hitting top 20 in a global chart then that is worth something.

  • We can also assign points to what chart.

Spotify is the number 1 platform, so that should get the most points.

    Then Apple and Amazon

    Then YouTube and Tencent.

  • Do a similar tiers for international artists and there it will be worth something.

At best we can do some Chess-Candidates like option.

If the act had charted in the top 50 of BB, then they will be held as Tier A, irrespective of their performance in local charts.

But I think it is superfluous.. Any such act will definitely be Tier A, even excluding international stats.

So low value feature and also will mess with lower tiers assessment.

It might be useful for ranking, but not broad tiers.

  • My point is that international fame can be used to separate Tier A from Tier S.

That way Tier A can be 500K Album salers + Top 10 Circle chart.

Tier S can be that + International charting.

Tier S should be special with very few groups that qualify.

Changed the title of the thread from “Kpop Grading System” to “Kpop Grading System ONLY for Korea.”.

  • If it is only for Korea a certain 1,343 years old will stay in Tire S for quite a long time

True, may as well change the title to kpop groups, and specify if co-ed groups are included.

Because queen IU rules the land with an iron fist.

Because queen IU rules the land with an iron fist.

If Korean charts don't separate solo/group, then why should this separate.

I am neither for an SSS+ tier like @Bpsosoro asked for IU.

    Nor for excluding soloists.

If she meets the criteria for S tier then she stays.

Who else - LYW?, BP, BTS, BigBang, Paul Kim?

But anyway the tier category should not be based on individual acts - group/solos.

Whoever meets the criteria, makes it.

  • If it is only for Korea a certain 1,343 years old will stay in Tire S for quite a long time

What.. did you give up on the 4th gen toppling her?

Who are the latest pawns you are advancing against the Red Queen, the Khaleesi of K-pop, the Nine Tailed Slyfox?

What armada are you advancing against the Virgin Queen, The Woman Of The High Digitals?

  • Now talking about charts.

The circle chart is important and the easiest one to get information from (in my experience).

Melon is obviously the most used chart in Korea, but getting older information may be more difficult, I do not know.

Bugs we definitely should ignore, everyone charts there, even my nugu faves get on that chart.

I know very little about Flo and Genie.

Spotify Korea is still very 'nugu' in Korea, they have the market penetration of Bugs, I am not sure if people want to use that for rankings.

I guess using the I-Chart could be a replacement for all the individual charts, but I am not sure if is user friendly to try finding information going back in time.

  • You know very little about charts.. that is what the above post presents.

Circle-Gaon is already a consolidated chart of other chart data - includes Melon, Bugs, Flo, Genie etc. and they are in works to include spotify and YT also, last I heard.

I-chart is a joke, probably used only by i-fans, who care about PAKs, which many idols are supremely unaware of. It constantly suffers from ddos attacks, is probably some tech guy running it on the side as a hobby.

I might have to wait for a while until the 5th Gen comes online.

YG's new Girl Group might be a possibility but it will promote once in two years and with that speed it can't compete against someone who releases 15 songs every year

    hah...

well this year she has not released anything so far.. Ganadara was from the past which Jay Park was keeping in the hold.. Mother Nature H2O, she lent vocals and nothing else.

So maybe this will be a No new music year to your ears :-P

She is not that prolific.. around 150+ songs in 14 years is not much.. many are collabs too.

Look at BTS 200+ songs in 9 years or Twice.

But if BP is the standard for YG.. music is something they do as an occasional hobby.. wonder what is the numbers for AKMU?

IU would be about average I think.

Circle is the best one for sure, but it may make it harder once you get to the lower tiers.

How do you differentiate groups that do not make the top 200 on the weekly chart.

Do you put Dreamcatcher, Tri.be and Rumble-G in the same nugu category?

  • ok, that makes sense, good luck.

  • Why don't you start with it?

Give us your assessment of groups and their tiers.

Another user already made a list based on tiers. but he also put in sales not only charting so it might differ a little bit.

There is no ranking within the Tiers. No Assessment since its mainly based on charting. if someone disagree he can bring arguments why a group should rank higher. i may have missed a group/song/hit here and there.^^
