eaJ is the new Jae. Jae Park better known as Jae or eaJ is an American singer-songwriter, and composer of Korean descent, best known for being a vocalist and guitarist for the South Korean rock band DAY6. He gained attention in South Korea as one of the finalists in the first season of the singing competition K-pop Star and a popular MC for the show After School Club. In 2020, Jae reintroduced himself to the world as eaJ to release his solo music.
The singer has been praised for his honesty and rawness in his lyrics and songwriting process. In his lyrics, eaJ often talks about his struggle with self-confidence, depression, anxiety using different objects as metaphors. His popular track “Pacman” is a perfect example of his songwriting style and his use of pop culture references,
But you say that you want me much as I want you
Over and over, like it’s Red Rover
Will your games ever be through?
Play me over and over, Pacman and lover
Hoping you run out of quarters soon
In 2020, he released his soaring anthem “Pacman” which is eaJ’s most popular song on Genius with a whooping 123K pageviews. eaJ continued to release a string of short singles on his YouTube channel. He also collaborated with Korean hip-hop artist DPR Live and K-R&B singer Crush on the song “Jam & Butterfly” which currently has a combined pageview of 35K on Genius. In late 2020, eaJ collaborated with Vietnamese-American artist and record producer keshi on the song “pillows” which hit #1 on Genius Korea’s Monthly K-R&B chart in January. The song also landed at #4 on Genius Korea’s Mid-Year K-R&B chart last year, and ultimately landed at #8 on the 2021 Year-End K-R&B chart in Genius Korea rounding up with 70K pageviews. Thanks to the popularity of his songs on Genius and his fans being curious about the stories in his lyrics, eaJ is one of the most followed Korean soloists on Genius.
Pursuing a solo career in the United States, eaJ has also collaborated with MAX, Seori, Rich Brian. With live shows restarting again, eaJ also performed at the Head in The Clouds music festival this past November alongside Joji, Saweetie, NIKI, and CL.
Now eaJ is preparing for his proper solo debut with the song “Car Crash” coming April 8th and a new album dropping sometime this summer. The track was initially teased last year at the Head In The Clouds festival by the singer and the Genius page already has 4K views. The track has created a lot of buzz for its pop-rock style and its cinematic lyrics like,
And the signals were mixed so we crashed
Your bloodshot eyes tell me when
All the warring has ended
It was beautiful
