I'm doing this thread to introduce you 5 b tracks from the group Mamamoo. This group is currently a very respected group in their country but not really by the international fans who very often do not know the group very well. This thread will present you 5 Mamamoo songs which are not very well known outside the fans and which nevertheless shows the diversity that the group is able to show in its discography whether in the lyrics or in the instrumentals.
I hope this thread will at least make you discover a song that you will like and to discover Mamamoo from another point of view.
Song #1 : Travel (from Mini-Album Travel release in 2020).
A recent song from the mini album of the same name. A mini album you may know with the songs Dingga and the controversial Aya. I really like the catchy and relaxing atmosphere of the instrumental at the same time. The song is really warm and gives you a lot of positive energy.
What is this song about? Hasn't there been a time in your life that you wanted to give up everything and go away? This song is on this theme, it is about a person who is not happy in her current life and pretends to be. This person expresses the wish throughout to go far around the world and rediscover the taste of life surrounded by the people they love (her friends or her husband).
Song #2 : 4x4ever (from Album Reality in Black release in 2019)
You know this album he is the most famous with in particular his title song "Hip". But had you ever taken the time to listen to this b track with a powerful chorus ? This song is about a theme that represents Mamamoo a lot but is not the main theme of their songs, I'm talking about friendship. This song is literally about the friendship of the band members and wishes them to stay together "forever". The lyrics are written in such a way as to convey a message of hope towards the friendship between people by saying that despite the passage of time everything is still possible and everything is still to be accomplished.
Song #3 : No more Drama (from Mini Album Blue;s release in 2018)
A title that should arouse the curiosity of all akpop users, right? I chose this song because despite a catchy instrumental and a percussive and powerful chorus the song addresses an essential theme of Mamamoo's discography: self-confidence. But she does it here in a rather atypical way, since the song here is about a toxic relationship. A toxic relationship that finally ends for good and that signifies the liberation of the one who undergoes it. This song is a beautiful message of hope encouraging all the people locked in this type of relationship to give up all these unnecessary dramas and find happiness. It's a song that inspires and wants to give courage to these people to say stop and leave this kind of relationship which is hurting them.
Song #4 : No no no (from Mini Album Pink Funky release in 2015)
The title track of the album "Um Oh ah yeah" is pretty well known, but you probably don't know the b tracks. This mini album has a Jazzy instrumental, so we find songs that sound very different from what kpop offers today. This song is a rather catchy song and about a woman's emancipation in her romantic relationships. The lyrics want to give confidence to women by making them have confidence and themselves and what they are and to take back control in the games of seduction and that they do not have to become someone else to please to the one she loves.
Special mention to this iconic line: "Now I am Beyoncé – By anyone’s standards I’m sexy"
Song #5 : Midnight Summer Dream (from Mini Album Red Moon release in 2018)
The title song of the album "Egotistic" is rather well known, as is the b track "Sleep in the car" with its quirky humor. But did you know that there is another quirky song on this album? It is "Midnight Summer Dream". Don't be fooled about it is not a summer ballad like the beginning of the instrumental to suggest it. This song is actually about a person who has sleep disruption and can't sleep at night. But the lyrics here are very funny as it tackles this theme taking inspiration from horror movies scenes that teens often love to watch in the summer. The person in the song no longer knows if they are having nightmares or seeing ghosts, monsters or any other horrific creature of any kind. The only thing we can be sure is that she will have slept very badly all night !
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read me and listen to the songs. Hope this teaches you more about the Mamamoo discography and makes you want to know more.
