SM is known to have played this trick quite a few times against SNSD, because at that time the guy running SM (Lee Sooman was technically not running the company at that time because he got into some trouble) thought boy groups should be emphasized and girl groups discouraged, so he did NOT nominate SNSD for the Album category in Golden Disk even though SNSD had sold the most album in 2011.

they outcharted them in korean chart which means that they would receive more digital point than twice at the mama if they were nominated
they also sold more with savage than twice did with Alcohol free which means they would have the physicals points
and they just release 2 back to back hits in korea, got a national hit this year, and are one of the most popular gg there this days among the public which is good argument to give them the judge vote
Twice would have been able to beat them in fan vote because they have a bigger fandom
