I might agree with the part in bold but why does that discount what IVE has done?
that's like saying the if one removes the "aces" of certain groups the groups wouldn't be as successful as they are
could one not make the argument say Big Bang wouldn't be where they are without GD
maybe BP wouldn't be as big (in SEA???) without Lisa (not I'm claiming she's the ace of BP)
Gidle wouldn't be where they are without Soyeon
and numerous more examples that I can't think of off the top of my head...
just because there are examples where one or more members shine (and sometimes outshine BRIGHTLY) it still means they contribute to their group's success no?
The ones saying MMM are scared of being bullied by Yama I guess
Your argument would have merit if their group was from the big 4. It wasn't. Their popularity still stems from a non-big 4 group.
It's nigh impossible to do a flat numbers comparison, given the different ecosystem these groups operated in.
Streaming wasn't even the primary method of music consumption during Mamamoo's first few years; it was downloads, and they led all girl groups in total downloads for about 3 years, before streaming took over.
Furthermore, Mamamoo was absolutely a force of nature during their peak in Korea. They were the second most followed girl group on MelOn, behind only Twice, and they are still today the girl group with the most cumulative unique listeners in the history of the chart.
Third point for Mamamoo is something you just had to be there to understand their popularity at their peak. They were everywhere, moreso than IDLE relative to their own peak eras. They were stringing together hit after hit, their solo songs were getting all kills (both Wheein and Hwasa), and Mamamoo at the apex of their popularity literally dropped a B-Side NewJeans debut style and got a real-time all-kill, and all-kills were much harder to get during the third generation. Mamamoo were also the second most requested K-Pop act during university festivals, behind only Psy.
There was a stretch of time where the girls were doing 4 University Festivals a day due to insane demand. That's a number that made Red Velvet drop their jaws in disbelief, when both them and Mamamoo were guests on Immortal Song 2. Mamamoo was getting on average $20,000 USD per festival, and they paid off their roughly 2 million USD debt in about 2.5 years, and they only surged in popularity 2 years after their debut--you do the math.
Speaking of IS2, they were also massively popular with the general public, and massively respected, thanks to it, which contributed heavily to putting them on the map. They were the first idol group to be invited to the show, the first to WIN the show against incredible vocalists who were more than just K-Pop popular but beloved singers. They went about 10 or 11 times, because the general public loved them that much on IS2.
I don't think I need to mention how in 2017 Mamamoo was so popular in Korea that they outcharted BLACKPINK in a head to head battle, while also setting a then all-time record for most unique listeners for a song within the first 24 hours. That right there should've made people understand how massive they were in Korea during that stretch.
From 2016 - 2020, Mamamoo was a force to be reckoned with, especially in 2018. I was in Korea during that peak year, and I can personally vouch for their songs and images being all over the city, hence my personal video of their music being played all over Seoul. Both Mamamoo and Twice hosted SNL, and Mamamoo's episode had higher ratings.
Note that I am not saying you can't even choose idle over them, since the cumulative numbers in most categories will heavily favor them, not unlike IVE. So if that's all you care about, go for it. But I think it's a flawed comparison, and I was deep into this hobby during the peaks of both groups, and can better contextualize the relative popularity of third gen and fourth gen groups, and I think Mamamoo was more popular relative to their respective eras.
Choose whomever you want, but don't question my choice of Mamamoo. Nobody on this forum knows about their accomplishments, nor the competitive and statistical environment of third generation music, better than me. To me, it's shallow to just compare numbers. Sometimes it goes deeper than that.

I like how it's users like you talking shit unprovoked who do the most crying when I return the favor. Don't get upset if I make an IVE thread and start a conversation guaranteed to trigger you like all my others. I already said IVE clears everyone on this list; get the fuck over it.
The MMM glaze is too much here lmao. They are def bigger than the likes of Sistar and GFriend but I wouldn't put them above the rest except maybe T-ara. (I mixed up the group names lol)
Ive and Idle outsell Mamamoo's entire disco with just 1 album and are also very strong digitally. In IVE's case they are stronger.
T-ara at their peak were going head to head with SNSD, smth MMM never did with the top GGs of their era, TWICE and BP. Kara were the biggest GG in Japan of their gen and probably edge MMM when it comes to total tour attendees.
The correct list is:
1. IVE
2. IDLE
3. Kara/Mamamoo
4. Mamamoo
6. SISTAR
7. Gfriend
I don't get people saying IVE but then say it's because Wonyoung and Yujin
What does that gotta do with Big 4?
So what if they are the biggest because of Wonyoung and Yujin that has nothing to do with Big 4.
I agree that IVE wouldn't be as big without those 2 but literally that has nothing to do with what OP is even asking OP is specifically saying non-Big 4 but we have people flocking in giving "it's only because XXXX even though they aren't big 4"

That's cool. Nobody gives a shit. I will continue to "glaze" Mamamoo, since I understand the relative popularity and peaks of these groups exponentially better than you.
Stop making threads if you're going to ask for people to give their opinions and then bitch when they oblige. I never said anyone had to agree with the reasons for why I rank Mamamoon where I did, but someone quoted me, and then mother ****ers want to act all
and play the victim when the same energy is given to their favorite groups.
Especially you. You're constantly crying everytime someone says anything remotely negative about Twice or Kiss of Life, crashing out and throwing temper tantrums because YOU can't handle anything that isn't glazing.
People can vote and rank however they want, and that's fine with me. But what isn't going to happen is people talking shit about my choices or logic, after ALL of you just spent an entire 200+ post thread bitching and moaning about me bullying BLACKPINK.
this is probbly the most insightful comment I've read from you my friend lol
I've never once argued otherwise. Some groups are just so dominant and transcendent that it's silly to box them inside an era argument. Like NewJeans.
smth MMM never did with the top GGs of their era, TWICE and BP
Close the thread and stop posting. This level of ignorance is offensive.
Mamamoon LITERALLY went head to head with BLACKPINK in 2017. The songs were literally released at the same time on the same day.
What happened on release day?
Mamamoo also literally dropped Starry Night in 2018. Outside of Bboom Bboom, and D4, the biggest domestic hit of BLACKPINK's career, they outperformed every other girl group release that year. You can go to Circle Digital TODAY and see that. It was a bigger hit than Dance the Night Away, had a higher digital peak, higher Circle Weekly Score peak, bigger numbers overall by year end. Just like HIP was a bigger hit overall than Fancy.
It's always the loudest people who are the most ignorant.
But I'm sure people will victim cosplay even though this clown is the one who intentionally shaded Mamamoo and people who picked them, on multiple occasions, before I finally decided to say something.
Mmm and idle over Sistar is an interesting choice.
Sistar has:
- 9 consecutive #1 songs on Circle chart
- 3 PAKs
- 2 times winning the best girl group award at MAMA
Individually all of the members are well-known. Soyou literally has the biggest song of a year.
Except IVE, none of the other group on that list can touch Sistar.

Tiny fandom. That is always what held Sistar back from being serious contenders for the top group.
I also feel like the MAMAMOO members are going to hold much more power in the future (even though that’s already the case now, but I’ll also consider how old SISTAR is). Compared to all the SISTAR solo members, MAMAMOO has that reputation in Korea as the real singers beyond just being idol members. We’ll see, but that’s how it looks to me.
There is nothing about Mamamoo suggested that they are bigger than Sistar.
- Mamamoo only has one #1 song (CMIIR) vs Sistar with 9 #1s, consecutively:
- Sistar also has #1 hits as Subunit and individually:
- Sistar won MAMA Award for Best female group twice. None of the groups listed had won once: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wik…ard_for_Best_Female_Group
